Mardi Gras Concerts

We’re doing one night/two days in February (2/8 and 2/9) and I had no idea about the Mardi Gras concerts. We’ll be there on a Saturday when it’s Joe Jonas. Should we plan on avoiding universal studios that day and do islands of adventure instead?

During the day shouldn't matter too much - actually, Islands is likely to be more busy during the day as Seasonal APs will be blocked out of Studios. Do you have park-to-park tickets?

Once the concert nears, the area around the stage will be a sea of humanity, but every person in that sea is a person not adding to a ride queue elsewhere.

Thanks for responding! We haven’t bought tickets yet but planning on not getting park to park tickets. I think we’re gonna stick to one park per day. Are seasonal APs blocked out of studios on Sunday too?

Maybe we’ll still do studios but avoid that area around that time. We honestly might not even be in the park at that time because ds may be done and ready for bed by then.

We did the parade float experience , so much fun. The parks didn't see any real increase in crowds for the concert, until later....

And mostly in the areas around the stage , as said.

It did effect the food and drink lines, but not the rides.

Hey, not to hijack too much, but if there during the concert, what might be the best places to hear it, even if very far back/not near the stage etc, but can still hear it? Is it kinda like Epcot, where one can be off the beaten path, but close, and still be able to hear, just can't see well?
IF I join DH on his trip in Feb, Kool and the Gang are on that Sat night!!! the only act in that list I know! and it would be fun to try and catch some of it, but I don't feel the need to camp out, be up close , or anything like that.

Seasonal APs are only blocked out of Studios side for actual concert dates. Sun 2/9 would not be a blockout day (some other weekends do have a Sun or Fri concert too).
Thanks! I think we’ll plan to do Studios on Saturday and then Islands on Sunday.

Also if you plan to eat at CityWalk on Saturday night, I would be inclined to make reservations. The concert could bring more locals in for "dinner and a show" with dinner falling before or after the concert and make walk-up seating for sit-down restaurants more challenging the whole evening. Plus Sat nights in general it's good idea to make a reservation if want to be seated quickly during normal dinner hours.

I think you'll be fine. Most rides will be very low wait times as it gets closer to concert time. I would plan to avoid the area around the concert though - assuming it's in the same place near RRR, it was an insane crowd the day we were there - like, I legitimately felt unsafe.

We had best laid plans to see the Goo Goo dolls two years ago. If you are not in the grassy area at least an hour or more in advance, forget being anywhere with a view. At the time we were there, there were a lot of wooden walls up for construction which greatly restricted the walkway in front of this grassy area and they were very insistent on pushing people along who wanted to gawk. That area may be open now? I'm not sure. I found that you could sort of hear the concert back by fast and furious but not well.

I think we’re planning to mostly do all mobile order or quick service places but thanks for the heads up!

We’ve been to several UO Mardi Gras concerts both on the grassy area and sometimes off the beaten path including while exiting the park. During those concerts you can hear the music from afar. We typically don’t want to ‘waste’ our park time waiting near the front hours prior to the concert but that’s just us. We also don’t wait hours in a spot for parades either… that’s just us and how we roll. I do like how UO has big screens at several spots where even in the very back of the audience, you can see the performance on those screens. So as far as hearing the performance, you can pretty much be anywhere in the vicinity.

So… 🎶 celebrate good times, come on! 🎵
