Marathon Weekend 2025

Photo pass activation and linking to my bib is my kryptonite and winds up being frustrating every year. <sigh>
That's why it was so nice at W&D that your whole unique code was printed on the expo pass--just copy and paste and avoid the typos. I assume whatever people are finding in the rD account will work the same way.

And here's nekonekoneko again with the race day forecast.

Thanks Jim!

Since we last spoke, it looks like that a few people are already making their way to Florida, and the rest of us are trying to get packed. (my clothes are still in the wash....) But anyway.

The temperature forecast for 5k morning looks to be stabilizing right around 38. It should be around the same 38 for the 10k morning.

The half marathon morning is where things get tricky. Some models are seeing the polar vortex starting to move away, some models still have the edge of it over central Florida. The National Weather Service is saying it should be 49, which seems to be the consensus, but there is My Forecast saying it will be 37, and Weather Network is saying it will be 66 at race start! So the hot tip here is to just bring everything?

Sunday morning is looking like it's should be around 47, but there's still about 5 degrees of disagreement on either side.

I don't want to re experience 2018, but I don't want to revisit last year, either. This will be tricky.

It's all yours, Jim!

Always crazy how much the forecast changes - and we're still not close enough to really know of course. What a difference a small distance north or south can make between cold northern air and warmer gulf air. Weatherbug and Accuweather are now showing 5am temp of 59 (feels like 56) and 63 (feels like 59) respectfully for the half. Much warmer than I've been mentally preparing my packing list for! :-)

Got back from the parks last night and discovered I left my iPad on the airplane. Pulled up the “find my” app and see that it is sitting in terminal B at MCO, looks like the United counter. I filed a lost and found claim with United last night. But I tempted to drive to the airport to see if I can get someone to grab it for me.

OH NO… STOP BUYING COLD WEATHER STUFF - WE’VE GONE TOO FAR!!!! :rotfl:

Time to start buying rain gear and talking rain tips?!

My Fireside Girl costume will be fine in hot or cold weather, but rain may be too much: not sure the glue on my patches will hold and the cotton sash will become heavy and uncomfortable. Think I’ll toss in a back up top, hat and a pair of ears so I have an alternate.

Hope you can get it quickly. I left a Kindle on an airplane a long time ago and was able to get to the (small) airport and pick it up.

Related, yesterday I got home from my walk and my AirPods case was no longer in my pocket. Find My showed it at the front of our neighborhood. I drove back there and sure enough, the case was lying open on the sidewalk. No idea how that happened, but I’ll be more careful when wearing those sweatpants.

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). It's here! I can't believe we've made it all the way to race week! It doesn't seem that long ago that we parted company after MW 2024. When and how are you heading to Disney and what are your plans when you get there?

SAFD: I'm flying down from NC on Tuesday morning. My flight is at 6am, landing at 8am. I'll Uber to CBR, drop my luggage off and head straight in to the Magic Kingdom. After lunch I'll head over to Epcot where I have my only dining reservation of the trip at Via Napoli for dinner. Wednesday I plan to hit Animal Kingdom and head over to the Expo around mid-afternoon, hopefully after the insanity of the initial rush has died down. I look forward to seeing as many folks as possible at meet-ups. Safe travels, everyone!

Different logistics for this trip for me. DD needed her car home over winter break so headed back with that yesterday AM. Battled the I95 traffic for 18 hours and get her to her apartment in Daytona just before midnight. We’ll be in Disney this afternoon with her for a couple days, staying at Copper Creek, then back to Daytona, drop her, rent car for us, back for races, drop car at MCO and fly home. It was nice not to have any worry about packing extra throw away clothes and bringing groceries

SAFD: Flying down on Wednesday morning, so my main weather concern right now is the foot of snow that is expected on Monday AHHHHHH. Uber to the resort and take the shuttle to the expo.

I think I can fit everything in my carry-on bag, provided that I do a load of laundry midway through the Dopey. My throwaway clothes are by far the bulkiest (amazing how small you can pack those running tights), so I am going to show up at the airport wearing a wacky combination of oversized sweatpants from my kid's friend's sweet 16, and an old sports hoodie.

Safe travels to all. Although I was a silent lurker for most of the training, I am so grateful to have traveled this season with you all. Hope to wish you luck in person soon

SAFD: Flying down Thursday--one of the few times I wish there had been some weather so I could maybe change my flight to earlier for free, but nope. My original plan had been to stay at Pop, but now I am joining some WISH friends (precursor to this board RunDisney) and staying at OKW in a 2BR condo. I love it there--even though I am getting the living room couch or sleep chair for 3/4 nights there. One night back at Pop.

I have/had park reservations to do my usual "solo commando" park touring, but now will just go with the flow. As an aside, I really like being on my own, but this trip will be about being social--we'll see if I survive! I have an AP this year (one off) so that makes it somewhat easier. But I don't like the fact that I still have to make park reservations when others don't.

On the plus side, this trip is costing me next to nothing now, and I still have an AP through Halloween.....so one more trip it is! (Now to see the W&D theme to see if that's worth it)

SAFD: I can't believe we have reached MW! We are flying from Memphis on Thursday morning, plan to check in at POFQ, head to the Expo, and spend our evening at Disney Springs. We are doing Goofy and I'm really excited to sleep in on Friday.

Good luck everyone! DH and I are both injured (his plantar fasciitis is so bad that the steroid shots only worked for 2 days) so we will be on the struggle bus. Disappointed but still going to have a great time!

NO no no no no no no no no no no.... PLEASE DO NOT BE 66 for the start of the Half!!! ::crying::

Feeling like I’m on star tours, but really just headed to the airport

Looks about like that here now too. Safe travels!

not sure the glue on my patches will hold
Hot glue should hold in a pinch. My mom is local and has her glue gun on standby for my costume post-travel, if you need it.

SAFD: Flying down on Tuesday morning. Scheduled to land around 9:30. Going to Universal for the morning and early afternoon (I have a Universal AP, but not Disney) hopefully get on a few rides and have a late lunch. Then heading to our rental in the late afternoon.

We are going as early as possible to the expo as some members of my group are going to MK on Wednesday, but I am part of the group with nothing planned except heading to Disney Springs afterwards. I am hoping we don’t get stuck waiting for our queue to the rD merch, as I don’t even care if we go in, but we may be tasked with looking for things for the MK travelers (who do like to buy rD merch every year). Oh well, I’m sure I’ll eventually get out of there.

SAFD: I fly out at 6am on Tuesday and will get in around 1pm. I'll uber to my mom's new place in Celebration and use one of their cars as my free rental -- woohoo! Staying with her Tuesday night and will be at the expo early for my CrD window and be there until I meet mom and aunt for lunch at Brown Derby.

Thursday I have no idea what my plans are other than moving from Poly to Bay Lake after the 5K. DH gets in Friday afternoon, so I'll run back to the airport to pick him up and try to make the meetup when we get back on property. We do have a res at Narcossee's for early dinner, and a celebratory meal at Shula's on Sunday night. We fly home at 6pm Monday, so we'll leave straight from Epcot after joining DATW.

Can't wait to see everyone!

SAFD: Life circumstances interfere with leaving any earlier, so flying down Wednesday late morning. I did the same in 2023 and got caught in delay hell (a long line of storms was going through north Florida at the time) and just barely made it to the Expo that evening in time (I was sweating that one hard)... so hoping for some better travel karma this year.

Safe travels all!

SAFD:
At the airport now waiting to board. We get to Wilderness Lodge this afternoon and head directly to Geyser Point for lunch and my absolute favorite - buffalo burger!

My folks come in on Tuesday. We are going to HS, MK and AK before the races and then Epcot after the 5K. Then we start over doing each one more time, heading home the Tuesday after the marathon.

It is my favorite week of the year, well until Spring Surprise. Safe travels everyone, excited!!
