Marathon Weekend 2025

There's only one proper end to start DATW...

We start at 11:00, meeting just outside of Cantina de San Angel.
And you don’t have to drink alcohol to join the group. Water, slushies, lemonades, teas, coffees, etc. are still “drinking”! It’s just fun to be with the group. We often get a group photo with some poor, unsuspecting character(s)! All are welcome.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays y'all.

Seeing the talk with RWR reminded me that while I don't miss my other medical stuff throwing a hissy fit. I do miss having proper breaks because wheels we only get a break if we're going downhill. Or if were stopped. So especially on uphill races I miss being able to take a walk break. Because we have no equivalent.

If you're not excited about low 40s, you know I'm not, either...
All I can think about is having to take layers off to get rid of undershirts at some point (in a park, because I'm not attempting that in a porta!) and wearing shorts under leggings and then having to *haul* leggings in the back of my belt again for 2+ hours once it warms up. And the fact that it'll probably be in the 40s here in Michigan. I go to Florida to get AWAY from the cold!
What weather forecasts do y’all follow?
Accuweather goes the furthest out. But for reals. Everything is written in pencil for forecasts. But it looks like I'll be grabbing another set of the "32 degree" brand thermal shirts from Costco, making sure I pack coordinating leggings for underneath skirts (in addition to shorts), all of the arm sleeves, and possibly grabbing some inexpensive gloves OR bringing a few packs of handwarmers. Packing for 40s and 80s over here.

Really hoping that Saturday forecast stays with storms in the afternoon....

Like we're all talking about the temps but that's got thunderstorms in the forecast. Which makes sense, its Florida. Storms in the afternoon are a thing. But also don't like seeing storms anywhere in the forecast on race day.

I looked accuweather earlier today and saw mid 70s for marathon day.
All four days have forecasts in the low to mid 70s as the high though. So that's not unique to the full. Warmest forecast looks to be 10k day with the low being in the 50s with the other three are in the 40s. Sundays forecast isn't great but its actually really not bad though definitely going to need to pack mylar this year probably.

Also going to need to remember that since the coldest point of the day is 30 minutes after the very start. That anyone in the front corrals probably won't want to ditch any layers for a few miles...

I got a beautiful "Every Mile is Magic" medal holder for Christmas! Can't wait to put all of my medals on it. My medals have only ever been in a tub under my bed :rotfl:

I'm very excited to start planning for marathon weekend! I feel like I will be packing half my closet since I leave next Friday and the forecast could change so much from then. Just hoping the lows in the 40s and low 50s sticks around, if it's in the 60s+ at 3AM I'm in for a bad time!

Highs usually happen at like 3pm. I’m much more interested in the lows because that’s what we have to run in. 😉
I worry about the highs because of humidity. In VA when the temp gets warmer it’s usually a higher humidity which I do not do well with. So I’m hoping for somewhere between 60/40 and 70/50.

Santa brought a sunny and 58 degree afternoon yesterday which was perfect for my one hour run (uhh, coach, it's Christmas - why?!?) First time I have run in shorts and just one layer in weeks and it was glorious. Wore my 2023 Dopey shirt so got a full upper body exfoliation and a reminder why I don't like running in runD shirts. 🙃

I looked at the forecast again. (I know, I know guys!) I am not excited about the prospect of low 40s in the mornings. I’m just not.

We listen and we don’t judge.
I refuse to put any faith in a weather forecast this far out, but I’d be thrilled with temps in the 40s. When I ran in London two weeks ago, it was 42 and wet. My HR was about 20 bpm lower than what it is at home for the same power and pace. I’ll take that weather and performance any day.

It’s been overcast, damp, and cool (low 50s at night, rising slowly to low 70ish in the day) here 90 miles west of WDW for days and I’m entirely over it. Supposed to go back up near 80 this weekend and I can’t wait!
What weather forecasts do y’all follow?
Honestly, theyv’e all lost a lot of accuracy the last few years - no idea why. But WESH is a local Orlando station that does a decent job, and the Weather Channel app is okay. Accuweather was once my go-to but something’s gone wrong there as of late. Really, any org will be pretty accurate within 24ish hours - long range is just a toss of the dice.

Afternoon thunderstorms are only a thing in summer, caused by high heat + humidity + sea breeze from both coasts colliding. This time of year is our dry season and storms only come with fronts dropping from the north or coming from the west. And those are the ones that are really unpredictable long range - my 7-day forecast called for storms this Wed-Fri over and over and over… and we’ve had no rain at all because the front that was forecast failed to show up. I wouldn't worry about any rain in the forecast this far out!

I know that it's a thing to bring all of your medals on Sunday following the marathon to get pictures. Nonetheless, is there an unofficial protocol for wearing your medals following the 10K and the HM? Obviously, most will wear their 10K and HM medals on Friday and Saturday respectively. But, I cannot recall seeing people wearing the medals that they got from the previous races as well.
