Marathon Weekend 2025

Anyone going to the meetup before the race tomorrow, would you mind picking me up at birthday button? I totally forgot yesterday when I was on property. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Got it - bit of course froze when he asked if I wanted him to add a name! Don’t know if you wanted it blank or not. I have a blank one but can go back - let me know!

Congrats to everyone on the half today! I had a good race for once. I usually want to die by mile 10 but not today! Thank you so much to @DopeyBadger for providing invaluable tracking info!

Sorry to have missed the meetup this morning but sleep won out and then I stayed sheltered near the ticket booths until about 4:15.

That section near poly was awful and kind of dangerous that dark. I was also in D, but one of the later waves, and didn’t find most of the course too crowded or difficult to do my intervals in. There was one lady basically pushing her way through that construction section and I wanted to be like girl, chill this will open up in a few minutes. And it did as soon as we turned in to gf.

One thing that worked really well for me was that I didn’t stop for any photos except the castle until mile 11 and that made a big difference in the types of runners around me. I usually stop for one or two early photos with long lines and then get stuck with the part of the field that is 90% walkers. By waiting until later for photos I was surrounded by about 50% walkers, 25% intervals and 25% runners. It helped so much keeping me moving and motivated.

Good luck to those running tomorrow. Be kind to your legs and hydrate! Planning to spectate at HS.

I just woke up from a 3 hour nap and realized that this wasn’t necessary for tomorrow since we don’t go in the same way. But this is good to know for Springtime which I’m doing and next year probably. So thanks.

And now I understand why since that’s on a turn I was focused on that. Not looking for characters. Not the best place for a photo.
I really wish people would be more cognizant of where they are walking. And stop walking in huge bunches of people I run/walk and I hate that we get a bad rap because other people don’t care.

Hoping the marathon has more room to stretch out tomorrow.
Yeah that was not fun to deal with at points. I’m officially fast enough now that it’s starting to become less of an issue. But it’s still one.

Positives:
-First time reaching the rolling section coming into Epcot and having enough space to allow myself to move without to much of an issue
-Cleared the entirety of MK before it even started becoming light
-Shoutout to the CMs working Donald and Daisy line who saw me coming and instantly knew what to do. More then once had to explain even later in the race that no I can’t go into grass. Not meanly mind you but just it was nice to not have to this time. I’m going to stop by GET to see if it’s possible to file a compliment for a whole character stop attendant.
-Even though the temps weren’t in the range for it. Good on runDisney for having a high number of water stops after we got through MK. It actually threw me off at first. Because I’ve only done a couple of races with them that frequently. So I had to recalibrate my fluid plans. Ended up not needing my pack which was nice.
-Biggest surprise was I successfully executed the turn at Grand Floridian. It was a sharp tight turn especially for us. But I managed to angle myself just right to make it would having to take my feet out of the stirrups.
-Had to get creative with a few stops and how to get in and out of them (Tangled I had to circle around the plantar and back onto the course. Darkwing I went into the parking lot. Did a full U-turn before going to get the photo.) but managed all of the ones I saw in time to get it.
- Got my castle photo without any issue this time. Was hyper aware of the tracks after Princess. To the point I’m probably going to have two sets of coming out of castle photos since I passed those Photopass people twice.
-Wasn’t expecting the photopass coming off of the TAB area. But it makes sense since it lines up nicely for photos.
-Didn’t lose nearly as much time at stops as I expected. Longest line I encountered was Donald and Daisy. And due to the fact that I couldn’t go up to them. I ended up skipping the line by accident.
Negative:
- Could definitely tell there was more runner’s than I’m used to for cone alley when I’m pacing where I was.
-Ballard was supposed to be taken out. It was not. Not the end of the world but still not fun.
- Spacial awareness still needs work. And this is also something I had a bit of an issue today. Think lack of sleep for me made it worse then normal. But also had runners with music all the way up. Which most of the time it is what it is. But didn’t particularly appreciate the swear I got on the Contemporary hill after yelling several warnings and still going around them.

Not positive or negative just interesting things:
- Watched the sweep occur as I was inbound for Epcot. Last time I saw this was exiting ESPN when we ran there as runners were coming in. Unlike that year where I was around 3-4 miles ahead. I was almost double at 8 since I was getting close to mile 10. Gives me high confidence for shenanigans for tomorrow.
-This confirms the suspicion that I race better with slightly warmer conditions than colder. I wasn’t even trying and I was outpacing the time from the first two days. This also explains how I was able to PR under hot conditions.

Overall one of my best races period even if it wasn’t my best time.

Wooo so were me and my sister! Imagine my surprise, scrolling through instagram and my face pops up as the feature photo for the 10K photo dump😱 Our first race (and faces lol) immortalized on their grid. I think we’ve reached the pinnacle too soon, how will we top this?!😅

Making it to the IG is epic, congrats to all of you! I made it into their extended Facebook post for the 10k and was pretty excited. I had a feeling when one of my pictures came back a lot more brightly edited then the rest.

The standout complaint for me were the cones IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COURSE to cover potholes. Like, I appreciate the attempt to alert folks to the potholes, but putting a single cone in the middle of a race course is as idiotic as not fixing the darned pothole before staging the race. And in a section that was very dark, no less.

They must have added the cones, because when I went through with the first wave of A, there were no cones and people were shouting out the potholes in the dark as they encountered them. Between avoiding the potholes and giant muddy puddles, I felt like yelling “Parkour!” throughout that section.

Second question about the marathon - trying to make plans with my family of where to reunite. I know there is the finisher area after you get your snack box, but are there family reunion signs or anything? I know some races have areas based on last name, etc.

Had a great race this morning. My son and I started in the second wave of A and seeing everyone as we came back towards Epcot made me appreciate that. Looked extremely crowded.

I'm going to express an unpopular opinion, I would rather do the wine and dine half for this weekend. If you want to run through the castle you can do princess or the full marathon.

I mean I get it but I don’t think they’ll ever do that because having the same set up for the half marathon as the full for the first several miles definitely has to make it easier for them to set things up.

Saw you out on the course, headed up the first overpass out of Epcot. I thought about saying hi but didn’t know if that was the proper time as you were going up hill. Then you passed me coming down the hill.

Yeah, could have missed them but I was in B and didn’t see any cones on the course either.

There was a security guard or other CM (not totally sure) that was near Poly/Shades of Green holding his flashlight to light up a decent hole in that area. I appreciated his efforts!

People around me were pointing/shouting out things so it was mostly manageable.

Honestly pretty surprised there wasn’t more temporary lighting in a few spots. Especially Poly/GF where that road is in pretty rough shape. At least that all should finally be done by next year.

The mood at the expo today was a bit…testy? We had reservations at Olivia’s this morning, and since we were going to be in the car anyway, we thought we’d go by the expo and see if there was an issue with DH’s bib for tomorrow. When we got there, I found where someone had dropped a phone/wallet in the parking lot. I approached the closest security guard to hand it over, and she snapped at me that I wasn’t allowed to go the path she was blocking. Then, the bib person told DH that he assumed the bib was fine for tomorrow, but had no way to check, and just shrugged at him. We walked back through the expo, and heard another security person yelling at someone going the wrong direction. I guess everyone’s just tired at this point. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When we were there on Thursday, everyone was in a good mood. I commented that it was good juju that the B-52s started up just as we walked in (Athens, Georgia!), and the whole place seemed like everyone was looking forward to the weekend. In fairness, today there was one lady behind the pickup area who was dancing and singing to a Whitney Houston song. At least she was having fun. 😀

MW can take the current W&D half course if that means that race weekend returning to the best half course ever—MK parking lot start, back roads to AK, HS, and then around the world in Epcot and under Spaceship Earth to the finish. I’m doing Princess next month, and running the same half course twice in two months tarnishes some of the luster of the weekend. I’d love each weekend to have a distinctive course.

Oh yeah for future reference don’t feel afraid to say hi. It doesn’t make me as out of breath as people probably think. It’s just a heavy pull. I might take a second to respond because I have auditory processing issues so it’ll take me a minute to get it through my brain that someone said something let alone what they said. But once I do I will respond,
