Marathon Weekend 2025

I'm poking at different weather sites to see what's going to happen during race days.

Let's just say that Thursday, Friday and Saturday got very odd, all of a sudden. They're saying the highs will be anywhere from the low 50s to possibly the low 70s. Even the low temps are crazy. From the mid-50s to nearly the low 30s?

This is going to take another few days to smooth out.
Yep, that tracks. Typical FL winter! Everything depends on when or if a front makes it far enough down. #packitall

Low to mid-50s would be absolutely PERFECT! I am frankly afraid of low 30s.

Another question, and I'm sorry if this has been covered already, but we're trying to figure out how my husband can spectate at TTC for the marathon. We're staying at BWV and I know you can take the monorail from Epcot to the TTC, but there isn't an easy way for him to get to the front of Epcot, right? Basically, for someone staying at a non-MK area resort, what's the best way for them to spectate along the marathon course (assuming he doesn't want to be there at the start)? Uber to TTC?

He could bus with you to the front of Epcot that morning and then monorail to the TTC? If he wants to get up early? Uber is going to be dicey. . .

The TTC comes later in the race than it used to with the course change. Looking at the spreadsheet (share coming soon!), based on your start time and pace, you should hit TTC right about 6:43am. That's still too early for him to rely on park transportation and with the road closures between Boardwalk and MK, I don't think an Uber is an option either. His best bet is to take race transportation to the start area, walk up to the Epcot monorail station and take that to TTC (plan on 30 minutes from there).

Unfortunately that means him getting on a bus by 4am if the transportation times in the guide hold. But if he wanted to, he could chase you around the course rather than just standing around. If he did not wait to see you start, but instead went directly to Main Street, he could see you there (you should hit Main Street roughly 6:16am), then he'd have almost 30 minutes to get to TTC to see you again. After that he could go to Epcot or the finish line and catch you a third time. It is doable.

Bad news for me, or for my costume, anyway, if it’s cold: the cheap hoodie I ordered is ENORMOUS. I missed the unisex sizing bit, so it’s basically a men’s small - I need a children’s size :rotfl:

I’ve now done what I should have done in the first place: ordered a $18 running jacket in the right color. I’ll still need a throwaway fleece over it for a while, but layered over 2 thin shirts should probably by okay later in the race.

I’ve had enough of this game.

Thanks so much for these details- that is helpful. While I understand the Uber to TTC may not work well, would the same issues arise if he was to take a rental car to/from Epcot? He doesn't necessarily want to take the 4 AM bus, so we're trying to see if there are any other ways he can get to/from the front of Epcot.

Getting in/out of Epcot can be impossible for some races. Take a look at the road closures page for the event guide alongside a route map (if you’re not super familiar with the roads he’d need to use)

Just ordered my tyvek paint suits for the corral and packing so many throw away clothes. So, my only worry now is if I slow down during the marathon and getting cold then. . . Go Dopey!
I bought Tyvek jackets on Amazon for corral use. For last year’s half, it was warm enough I wound up checking the jacket,,, and wound up wearing it later as a rain jacket when the downpour hit. Highly recommended.
FWIW, I’ll wear tights as part of costuming, but otherwise don’t feel the cold on my legs enough to wear more than shorts, at least in my typical race temps (down to the low 40s), so just the jacket.
One of my first MW races had a rather chilly start temp, like low 40’s, so I kept the sweatshirt on until just outside the MK, then tossed it aside (photos > warmth), but was warm enough from then on with the sun coming up.
If I think it’ll be cold enough the whole race, just wear another layer under my costume.
Gloves: last year I started to notice how my hands were cold even if the rest of me wasn’t, so if I was about to be heading down there, I’d be acquiring some cheap gloves to toss or thin ones I can tuck in my pocket. For training runs, I like my thin motorcycle under-gloves meant to be worn under the larger main gloves. The under gloves are wind proof and do the job, but very compact in a pocket.
YMMV
Good luck on the Dopey!

I had to go and buy a jacket and some other warm clothing the night before the 2023 half... Once we got going I was fine to get rid of them but I was very glad to have them as I waited.

To give myself peace of mind this year I'm opting to not just stick with my original costume (which doesn't lend itself to more layers, covering everything up) but I'm going to bring a cold weather costume too. So if the Polar Vortex really is coming our way I'll go with my new warmer costume and not stress about trying to make the other outfit work. There is always another race in the future.

I've been so excited to get out of the cold and have some warmth... but it doesn't seem like that will be the case hahaha at least there will be characters along the way.

I never imagined I’d be rooting for temps in the 40s, but here we are. Strange times, indeed.

One of the more interesting things to me about cold weather running convos is how individual we all are with what needs to be covered to feel okay! I went years thinking “as long as your core is warm, the rest of you will be fine,” because that was the wisdom I’d been sold… turns out, I’m much more comfortable with my legs and shoulders covered. I’ve wound up in thermal tights and a thin, short sleeve tee in 55º and been comfortable, but shorts and a jacket in the same temp was awful. Same with head covering: I’ve been happier with an airy running cap plus ear warmer than a warm beanie.

If I’m interpreting the road closures map correctly, the car entrance to EP will be closed from 4am to 8am. I know from experience that traffic backs up waiting for that to reopen, too, so planning to arrive right at 8am will be challenging. If the goal is just to be at the front of EP when you finish, he can drive or take a regular parks bus later - Early Entry starts at 9:30am, so buses should start running at 8:30.

But if he wants to see you at both MK and EP, the only option is to arrive at EP before 4am and monorail back and forth.
