Marathon Weekend 2025

Amazing memory about my Half time!

I think I put that I'd run the marathon in under 5 hours but then didnt upload any proof (didnt realise I had to).

I didn't realize I could go to Runner Relations with my PoT and ask them to reassess. Will definitely do that - thanks for the tip!
Oh I have a terrible memory lol. I just went to see if you had said anything about your pacing or prior race times before asking about this.

What I will say is that *if* they turn down your request for a move, and you maintain that 11-12 min pace, you'll outpace the balloon ladies by 4-5 min each mile. By the halfway point, you'll have separated yourself by about 50-60 min, and by the time you hit Everest you'll have gained another 15-20 min. Of course, every stop you make for any other reason on the way will reduce that time. I don't know how long a lot of the character lines are at that point but I can't imagine they're short. Front of castle might be decent because they have a few photographers out there and aside from Mickey I think that's the one everyone should get if they're able to. But that's how you should think about this: you'll keep separating yourself from the balloon ladies until you stop, at which point they'll start gaining on you. At your estimated pace you would have a 100-120 min buffer through the whole race to do non-running things.

But yeah I'd be pushing for you to get into a POT corral. I know they have a deadline but a 1:45 half POT pace is way quicker than the final corral and it's better for everyone involved if you get put in a corral that matches that pace. Tell them it was your first time registering with RD, you knew it was going to be a rush to get registration because it sells out quickly, and you didn't understand how to handle the POT proof. As mentioned before, just make sure it's from a race within the POT window.

Looks like your question was answered, but in case anyone else wanted the info in the same table format.

Additionally, here is the dark MK Castle sky projections.

And for those unaware, once @Herding_Cats collects all the info for the DIS List, then the sheet will calculate all of your individual timing questions based on your presumed corral and expected pace. I've attached the 2023 MW DIS List as a PDF as an example. It is obviously outdated, so don't use the information from it for the 2025 race.
Does anyone have any pictures of Cinderella's Castle when it was dark during last year's marathon? I'm curious what it will look like without the white lights. I can't imagine that they're going to have projections on the castle, but that would be cool.

Not my video. I put the clip at the moment the runner enters MK when it's dark out.

Anyone having any problems with the Disney World website today? When looking at park hours, it is showing the coding descriptions on the screen. When trying to make park reservations, it just spins and never loads the page. Kind of like a registration day, LOL.

It looks nice, but I really miss the castle being covered with the white lights. Now that Disney is projecting "runDisney" onto the back of Guardians, I wonder if there's any chance that they'll do the same with the castle this year? I highly doubt it.

Between the odd park hours, course change and earlier marathon start, it definitely points to a massive compromise for less "inconvenience" to day guests. As one of those day guests who visited for decades before I started racing, coming at a race time was actually cool and unique, even before I had any interest in joining. I loved cheering folks on from my room at the Boardwalk (now a quiet zone 🙄 ) or while coming into Epcot for the day. It's really too bad they felt the need to make so many changes at the expense of the rD experience. These "small" things they are taking away are part of what makes rD unique, and it is really disappointing.
I don't go here (planning on coming back for 2026 though!) and the quiet zone around the Boardwalk and Beach/Yatch Club was so disappointing at Wine and Dine this year. I can't imagine as a regular guest complaining about spectators cheering runners for a few hours in the morning. I probably would've woken up early to cheering with them instead.

SAFD: Training is going well - there have been aches, pains, and sore muscles but I have accumulated a variety of recovery tools that help me work through (most) things! 18 miler last weekend went better than I thought it would, and I have been pretty consistently getting in 4 runs a week with some cross training mixed in. Goofy simulation is next weekend and then taper!
One observation from my long runs - somewhere around 7-9 miles in, I will feel like there is no way I can make it the whole way, but one foot in front of the other and eventually that feeling goes away and I'm just in cruise control until the last mile or so.

Very late SAFD:

Training was going great all year! Paces were faster compared to 2023 Dopey training and still felt comfortable. Had a great 16-miler under my belt before leaving for a planned Tokyo vacation.

Then I ate it climbing Fushimi Inari (specifically fell off a step I didn't know was a step) and seriously twisted my ankle for the first time in my life 🙃

I was able to put weight on it fine; it just felt "tweaky" as I walked. I kept going (dumb), feeling pretty good (delirious?), until we left the shrine and the "oh s*it" feeling set in. Thankfully a full day of RICE really helped and it didn't hurt to walk/do steps for the rest of the trip.

Ortho confirmed it as a well healed grade 1 but still wants me to wear a brace for my long runs as a healing precaution. She recommended an active one so I'm all set there, and tested it with a few short runs. I also did two 10-milers before she was able to see me, so I'm not where I planned on being long-run wise but got some distance back in without aggravation. Gonna see how the brace holds up against more mileage this weekend.

In any case, I'm really stubborn and have never not finished a race. Even that one time I came in dead last at West Point, dragging my butt across the finish line, lagging behind retired Marines. I'm in B for CRD, and the lack of pain in and out of the brace make me confident that while I'm not gonna PR in any race, I'm gonna do my best to get it done. So if you see someone in an ankle brace and backwards cap slowly chugging along, feel free to wave as you pass 😅

FOMO got me last night and I snagged a 10K charity bib with no fundraising required. Probably not the best idea coming off pneumonia, but I'll take it super slow and just enjoy the atmosphere! I'll be joining in on the flag shirt group costume too :-)

Who'd you get the bib from?
