Maltesers vs Whoppers

Our chocolate is so much better. I also love Kit Kat here your tastes nothing like ours in Canada.

I was thinking BK Whoppers which I would chomp on way faster than chocolate. ;)

In the US it’s ‭always been made by Hershey’s under a licensing agreement, so it’s using Hershey’s chocolate. I believe it’s now Nestle making it worldwide, although I’m not sure what the chocolate was like previous to Nestle.

However, I would put up US specialty chocolate against any in the world.

I like Whoppers better - they're crunchier. Maltesers are not as dense and are kind of sticky to chew, which I find unpleasant.

Never liked Whoppers. Only liked Brach's, but they don't make them any more. Never tried Malteasers.

Depends on what you mean by "US chocolate". There is really good American made chocolate available, although at a pretty high price point. But if you mean regular Hershey, then yeah. But I feel US-made chocolate from Mars or Nestle is better than from Hershey.

But I prefer the quality of other US-made chocolate at a basic price point. I hesitate to say "mass-produced" since most "premium" chocolate is mass-produced.

And this discussion may not be an apples to apples comparison. I know of some people who prefer UK imports and will even pay a steep price for them. Also - I read that these Malteasers I tried are probably made in a factory in Canada, although I'm guessing the chocolate was sourced from the US.

They closed the Hershey factory in Oakdale a few years back. I don't how Hershey distributes product, but production that was done at that plant was moved to Mexico. Not sure if it is because I'm mad that they closed that plant, or true, but Hershey's just doesn't taste as good anymore. My favorite is Sees chocolates made with Guittard chocolate.

I grew up with See's. I remember seeing the inserts in the boxes showing Guittard as their source.

However, Hershey's still makes product in PA. Still - I'm kind of ticked off what they did to a couple of local companies they bought out. They bought out Scharffen Berger and then closed the factory in Berkeley. They also bought out Joseph Schmidt Confections and then closed the entire operation. My understanding is that all that's left of the latter is that they kept on Joseph Schmidt as a consultant.

Don't know much about Oakdale. I've passed through town on the way to Yosemite, but I never even stopped there.

They still do an annual chocolate festival, even though Hershey's is gone. The Hershey tour there was a blast. https://www.oakdalechamber.com/chocolate-festival/
