Magical sewage back up!

Yeah I read the story on DCL Reddit. The actual poster was in the room. It definitely was gross. Others
were chiming in on their sewage stories. I know it happened to a friend of mine couple years ago on the
Magic. I was VERY hesitant to sail her. However we went last year and had amazing time. She is still
a gorgeous ship!

He is very credible. What he said is true. It is not a photo of a DCL bathroom. Must have found a stock photo or where he got the info did and he just used the photo assuming it was the Magic.
He is VERY opinionated and IMHO often, at the very least stretches the truth. But realistically, he is NOT a typical cruiser. He cruises far more frequently than most of us do, and given how many cruises he has been on, and that he is a Travel Agent I am frequently surprised by his lack of experience with things most cruisers experience. He was honest, that until a few months ago, he had NEVER used cruise line transfers to get from the airport to the ship. And as a Travel Agent, he has said he does NOT book air fare for his clients, they have to do it on their own. I expect my Travel Agent to handle EVERYTHING for my trip. Granted, airlines haven't paid Travel Agents a commission for booking air for 30 years, but if I booked a cruise with you, I would expect the commission on that would cover your time booking air face. My last cruise the Travel Agent charged $25 to book air fare until the cost of the cruise was over $5,000.

To be fair, this can happen on ANY ship at ANY time. As has been stated, this kind of thing happens in these type of systems when someone flushes something they shouldn't. I haven't seen it reported on the Wish or Treasure, but 100% if someone flushed something they shouldn't it could happen there too.

A few different Reddit users who are currently on the Magic are sharing photos and videos of a pretty strong leak in the atrium coming from the chandelier. Users on Reddit are sharing that they have roped off the areas on 3,4, and 5 and you have to go to a different floor to be able to cross the ship- complaints about it impacting activities as well that were scheduled to be held in the atrium.

I’m guessing whatever plumbing issues the Magic experienced she is still having some fallout.

We are getting off the magic today. Can confirm the above poster. The atrium is completly off limits and water continues to pour out of the light fixtures.
I am so sorry! Can you say how long it has been going on for? Disembarkation must be a mess today with part of the atrium off limits

It started on saturday(day 6) with water leaking out one light in the atrium and progressively got worse and then folks in our Facebook cruise group started mentioning being made to move staterooms and at least one stateroom ceiling was starting to cave in. They proceeded to block off the atrium and mid ship on decks 4-5- rerouting everyone. They put a blind up on all the elevators so you could not see in the atrium but you can see when you walk on deck 3 that it's still flooding out the chandelier.

They moved character meet to the top deck. They canceled the farewell- did a character meet a greet on the deck instead. Moved Royal gathering into the theater- and thus the last total gathering had 1 less princess- And everyone is disembarking from deck 1. Seems slower than what I thought was typical. It's 9:15am and they are through about half the groups.

We think the pools were part of the impact, the kids pool and splash pad were off all day but then all the pools ended up closed because we also hit rough waters. The aqua dunk never opened yesterday.

We still had a magical last day, but if this had happened earlier in the cruise I would have been pretty upset as it did impact a lot of things the last day. I'm feeling for those about to get on the ship and their greeting to the ship isn't no going to be as expected unless Disney can quickly fix this..

What a bummer! Hopefully Disney is able to get repairs done quickly.

Would love to hear from anyone sailing out today. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up leaving late because they're trying to get repairs done while docked, with tomorrow slated to be a sea day.

I saw some of the threads on Reddit from people on the ship as well. It sounds like the issues are pretty significant between the atrium and the sewage issue for some cabins. If this was another cruise line, we would be absolutely destroying them. If the atrium is unusable and cabins have sewage back up, it seems like those should things should be fixed before sailing again.

I’m boarding the Magic in San Juan today and have heard nothing about this other than on this forum. This is my first Disney cruise and I’m hoping to not have an awful first impression considering it cost almost triple what a 4 night Bahamian cruise would cost on another line. We booked this in Dec 2023 so have been looking forward to it for a long time. I’ve been on over 20 cruises on other lines and things can happen but it’s all in how a company handles it. I’ll report back once I board.

Last spring the Magic was leaking in the aft on a couple of floors, near the elevators. It went on for months, based on other comments I saw here before I cruised. Or at least reoccurred in the same spot. There was also a problem with the AC in parts of the ship. Other than that, it was in pretty good shape. I love the ship, but have wondered if they have plans to retire it and if it is getting less overall maintenance because of that.

A little off topic but I just wanted to note it's absolutely in your best interest to book your own airfare. Third party sites that travel agents use often have ridiculous TOS and loopholes that mean if you needed to make a change or get a refund it's nearly impossible or at least extremely time consuming. They could certainly look up flights for you, but definitely you should either book yourself through a site you're familiar with or directly through the airline.

I keep seeing sewage backup posts about the magic and it's making me uneasy about my August cruise. I know it's far off, but it's been a rollercoaster of it being backed up and fixed. If it's really because people are flushing stuff that they shouldn't flush, we're doomed. So many people think they are are the only ones doing stuff like that . 😭

I expect the Travel Agent to handle those issues if they come up. THAT is what they are getting paid for.
Only issue I ever ALMOST had was booking a flight myself. Something told me to pay the $25 and e-mailed her the itinerary I was looking at. Not sure what site she was using, I was booking through an airline site. Her site flagged my connection in Salt Lake City as an illegal connection. The airline site would have let me book that. I would have been stranded in Salt Lake City. She could not tell me why it was an illegal connection, but her system flagged it.
Last cruise, on Celebrity, I let them book the air fare. They booked a wacky route, but at a MUCH lower price than I could find. I was cruising out of Vancouver and live in Sacramento. They booked me....... Sacramento to LOS ANGELES to Vancouver. 400 miles the wrong way, then 400 miles back flying over my house on the way to Vancouver.
Next cruise on Princess I am also letting the cruise line book the flights. They have changed my flight once already, but again, since I have their insurance, any problem is THEIR problem.

Crossing fingers it is not an issue for you. Please update us on your experience.

If DCL is going to stick with their plan for 13 ships- they will need to keep her running until at least 2031 and I could see them aiming for 2033 so she will be sailing for her 35th anniversary but she is going to need a lot more love. I know she is being winterized before Alaska so hopefully issues are resolved then.

Side note- We are set to sail on her in Sept (and on Deck 6 which seems to be struggling) and the reports are making me rather nervous.

Yikes.

This is why I have been doubting how long Disney plans on having the Magic around. She may look pristine on the outside but there have been more instances of these sorts of issues. Kind of like a car, you can only do so much when it gets to a certain age.

Just got on board at 2.15. Boarding on deck 2 forward. No announcements. Atrium is closed with no explanation. Our stateroom is on deck 5 aft so we were told to go to deck 6 and walk across and then down to 5. We weren’t told why but said they hoped to have it fixed soon.
I am so sorry. I would not be a happy camper about that. I know issues can happen on any cruise but I would expect a message pushed out from guest service in the app. Keeping guests informed is the least they can do

This is sad news. We are booked on her both august and September. This is so unacceptable. The last time we sailed on her my family was on deck 2 and the room smelled like crap. They kept complaining but it was never resolved. That was probably 10 years ago. We are celebrating my big birthday in September and have 5 cabins booked on deck 2. We have 5 first timers with us. Hope it doesn’t turn into one and done. So glad I canceled my July 10-night cruise for this summer.
