Magic Key Back on Sale on 11/6 at 9am PT

There is absolutely no way that anyone outside of Disney management would know, but we do know that people can not buy them any more.
Apologies if it sounded like I was going after you - I'm just really frustrated in this moment that they're handling these like this.

I really, really, really hate how they're selling these. It's so relentlessly unpredictable. Like, if you're going to sell them for a week, sell them for a week - tell people that you're selling them for a week, and give them a chance to prepare.

And I'm still strongly suspicious that they're just trying to stop people from upgrading from day tickets during the period that passes are blocked out (holiday and summer). Like, just fix the tech so that people can't upgrade to an MK on those days.

I completely get it. We are going there next week and I was planning to upgrade everyone’s 5-day ticket to a MK on the last day. Oh well.

I’ll make an educated guess that the sale of MK is tied to meeting attendance projections. Selling MK during a blackout period makes no sense… since the resumption, all sales have been brief sans last spring when Disney allegedly significantly increased the MK base.

I think they also want a certain type of guest, too. Like, I don't think it's a coincidence that they ended MK sales yesterday and announced the ticket offer today.

I think it's also a timing thing. People who upgraded to an MK last week from the park will only get one holiday season out of it. If they allowed upgrades during the holiday season, people could have holiday December one year and holiday November the next - potentially less likely to renew.

I'd love to see the methodology. Like, it's hard for me to believe that doing all of this moves the needle significantly.

While I can see that being a factor at WDW, I think it is less of a factor at DLR. A large percentage of MK holders live within a couple hours of the parks.

This makes the most sense to me in terms of people who upgraded park tickets, but people who bought MKs and delay their first entry until after holiday time starts will still get two holiday seasons, yes? I was tempted to do just that, but DH said if having MKs works out we’ll renew them, so we started our passes last weekend. It does make a lot of sense to me not to allow the ticket upgrades during the most lucrative period. People who buy the higher tier tickets are most likely to go ahead and buy them again next year, I think.

That's definitely WDW behavior, but I still think it would apply for DLR - if you were able to get a few days one December and a few days the next November, you might not buy tickets or renew the pass to go again the next month.

Oh, yes, for sure. I just know that the ticket upgrade is popular, since it's like pretending you bought an MK instead. I think Disney wants to maximize ticket revenue - allowing upgrades during the gap season is more tolerable on the ledger than having people cash out a more-expensive holiday season day ticket. An MK purchase when they're available is fully-captured revenue, so it's not necessarily an impact if someone intentionally uses it for two holiday seasons.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. I just think that Halloween draws more locals than the winter holidays.

Definitely seems that way. The after hour Christmas event they offered a few years ago was allegedly a flop as attendance during the day (non-event) was poor as locals avoided the park.
