Luggage? Can we take our own to the DCL bus?

Staying at a Disney resort the night before and taking DCL transfer to the port. Can we just take our own luggage to the bus and give to the porters at the port? Or best/easiest to let Disney pick it up in our room? I know it has to be ready super early so wasn't sure if bringing it on our own to the bus makes more sense.

What about after the cruise? We are headed to airport. Can we keep our luggage with us, have breakfast in Cabanas and then get off when we are ready? Instead of putting luggage out night before and having to find it again in that sea of suitcases?

I'm sure you could probably bring luggage with the luggage tag on it down to the bus and let them know as you are boarding that you want it to go to your room - although I'd verify this the night before at your resort. I don't think it would be where you get your bag as you get off the bus and give to a porter. Maybe people do that? But I didn't see porters there. I imagine more they have a group come and get the luggage from the bus once everyone has offloaded.

I will say I found having the luggage picked up at the room super easy. My kiddo was still asleep and my husband just pointed them to the bags. We packed one big suitcase of cruise stuff that we never opened once we arrived at WDW so that one was easy. We had one smaller suitcase that we used for stuff we wanted day of (meds, electronics, snacks). That only left one other medium suitcase that we finished packing before they came with a few other odds and ends we didn't want to carry with us.

Yes, you can keep your luggage with you and do express walk off. I've never it found it hard to find our luggage at disembarkation though. They organized things pretty well (based on the character on your luggage tags). I preferred that than navigating our big suitcase down the narrow hallways and having to take lots of luggage to breakfast. But if we ever had an early flight, I'd definitely do it.

Not sure about your first question, but yes you can participate in express walk-off on debarkation day, and in fact its recommended you do so if you have a flight home that day prior to 1 pm.

Yes you can bring your luggage to the bus yourself. It will be put underneath and you will see it again when you get to your stateroom. We usually have all but one bag picked up. Then drop the last one (all the stuff we needed that morning but won’t need till after dinner) as we get on the bus.

You can’t keep it on the bus with you, buses are full and not enough room.

Yes you can walk off the boat with your luggage. It will be put underneath and you will get it when you get off at the airport.
Enjoy!

Only tricky thing with Express WalkOff is sometimes you’ll have to wait for an elevator that will hold you AND your suitcases. They can be busy on debarkation day. Depends on the time and your Deck number.

figure we might try to sleep in a little bit and I know that luggage pick-up is early. Then again, we might be too excited to sleep!
Exactly how we feel- the luggage pick up is early! And I hate to be rushed on vacation. Call bell services- they will pick you and your luggage up if you have a lot. At least they did for us-it was pre-covid, at the Poly. Times have changed... But you can always inquire.

I think it really depends on how many bags you have and how many capable hands you have. We're two adults but travel with 2 little people and having the luggage picked up in the room was amazing, but our kids have a definition of sleeping in that's 630 AM. We left the bags and went to breakfast.

We pack the cruise bags and the resort bag. At the resort we don’t even open the cruise bags. Then have them pickup the cruise bags. We don’t rush and keep the resort bag with us. Then we only have to carry one bag to the bus.

THIS! Keep in mind that if you do self walk-off there is no luggage assistance. I've encountered more than one family who were doing walk-off (not just on Disney) with 4-5 large bags (one per person) but one or maybe 2 people wrangling them while the others were too little or otherwise impaired to assist so it was creating a dangerous situation behind them as the large bags kept getting all turned around because they were too much for the one or two people handling them to handle.

We give our bag to the cruise porter on the way to the cruise. Going home we walk off with our luggage. We only use two carryon bags - one under the seat size and one larger which could fit into overhead. It's never been an issue.

They don't pick up from the room too early, although I suppose it depends on what you consider early. It used to be 8 am but it's now at 7 am and they are pretty much right on time. We have to get up early enough to make sure that everything is packed in any event - though I'm usually packed the night before with the exception of a carry on bag - so it's just as easy to let them do the pick up. If you take your bags down with you to put on the bus, you'll then also have to take them to the porter when you get there. It's nice to have them picked up because they are shipped out on a truck and you no longer need to do anything about them until you see them on the ship.
