Not only am I an unrepentant luggage junkie, but I've birthed one, too. DD17 is just as bad as I am, only we have totally opposite taste in luggage, so the proliferation is even worse than it used to be. DH & I prefer our luggage softside, while DD insists on hardside clamshells. (Her overpacking habits have broken 3 of them in the past 2 years, but now she has an IT brand that seems to be tough enough to take what she can throw at it.)
I have one ultra-lite Samsonite 36"pullman that I refuse to give up, even though it's now too large to fly. We keep blankets in it now. Love that thing. Our entire upstairs hall closet is full of nested luggage, though I'm trying to get the address of a local foster care group that will take used bags for kids -- I really don't want to send useable bags to a landfill if I can avoid it. (Our old ones are clean and have plenty of life left in them, but like most luggage junkies, I always want the next new thing, so I have several that need a new home.) I actually prefer 2-wheeled rollers, but they are getting very hard to find now. We have one pullman with a double-extension handle and wheels on 4 corners that can be rolled on 2 wheels or set flat and pulled like a wagon with other bags bungied on top. The extra handle makes it a bit heavy, and it's 20 yrs old now and looking pretty ragged from the thousands of miles on it, but man, that thing was a lifesaver when I went on trips alone with the kids when they were little. It's still very handy, and I wish I could replace it with a new one.
I don't use packing cubes the way they are meant to be used; I just use them to pack my undies, because I cannot stand the thought of random TSA guys putting their paws all over them. I'm not thin, so 2 mediums are needed for that. I do like to use the large plastic compression bags to minimize the load, though; especially in winter when we are carrying more bulky things. If it's a long trip we usually pack one 29" pullman for the two of us, and then each take a small carryon. I always have to take my laptop when we travel, so I have a small rolling bag that will hold all the chargers and electronics for both of us; those darn things are heavy, so I got a nice Olympia 16" with 2 wheeels to take that load off. For work trips on my own I can usually get 2 days worth of clothes into it, too. We go on a lot of 2-day trips in winter to watch DD compete, and we'll each pull a rollaboard for those, because standing around watching winter sports requires lots of layers.
DH is compulsive about unpacking at our destinations; he has the bags unpacked into dresser drawers 5 minutes after we walk into the room. I mostly prefer to leave anything that doesn't need to be hung up in the closet in my suitcase, but that doesn't fly with DH along. All luggage must be emptied and stashed before he can relax.
New thing I've found that I LOVE: rubber wheel covers. They make it so much quieter to roll 4-wheel bags, and the colors also make bags easy to identify on a baggage carousel. Take my advice and glue them on, though; I've had one slip off and get lost on city streets, and nothing is more annoying than uneven wheels. (Test them first to make sure that the wheels roll freely, then take them back off and put a small smear of glue on the inside before putting them back on for good.
