I haven’t flown in a few years and wonder how low will they go on average? We are flying from Ohio in May 2025. I have been checking every week and the lowest price has been 349.00. Will it go any lower?

There's really no way to know, if something bad happens, flights could go down (during covid I flew to MCO direct for $70 round trip). Flying is not as inexpensive as it once was. I remember I used to be able to fly direct from either Boston or Providence to Orlando for around $150 to $200 about 10 years ago. Including checked bags. Now if I get under $300 I consider it a good deal. Generally, they say the cheapest time to buy tickets is about 3 months out from your travel date. You can use Google flight tracker to watch for fares, it will tell you if a fare for the route is considered high or not and send you updates.

Where are you flying from? CLE, CVG, CMH or something else? Have you tried https://www.google.com/travel/flights to track the price? It will let you know if it goes down by sending an email.

I check Delta prices regularly on Tues and Wed. Prices sometimes fall during those days. In my experience if there was a drop by Thurs the cost is higher.

The Hopper app is another option besides Google flights to track flight prices, I tend to use them both in tandem and then when I'm ready to buy I book directly through the airline site.

Delta's algorithm is funky and there really is no rhyme or reason to it tbh.

If you use a points-based rewards credit card that partners with Delta (Chase, as an example partners with several airlines), you may be able to do a transfer (these are one-way only) and turn your points into air miles and make your flights significantly less expensive. As an example, flights for myself and my husband roundtrip were $400+/person, but I was able to do fly for about 22k points/person instead. (The benefit here also being that I was also able to cancel/rebook the flights if the miles "price" went down with no penalty, and have more points to use in the future.

Depending on where you are, consider Lexington, Louisville, Dayton, and Columbus. Currently flights are cheaper for a June flight LEX>MCO than from CVG.
I have looked at all those. We want a nonstop flight and they do not have any for delta. We want delta because some of us have delta sky miles. Lexington and Louisville is to far from us.

You will probably pay more for direct flights. I've been tracking for a trip in June. The lowest I've seen (w/connecting flights out of LEX) has been $318 ($248 if you do basic economy). That's for a SAT-SAT flight.

I'm still holding out for two reasons...
1) We're waiting to find out if DD & DSiL will be able to go.
2) I'd like to get under $300, but that may just be a dream.

Delta does offer no fee changes, so if the price drops, you can get an eCredit good for a year from the original date of purchase.

I take the CVG-MCO flights often. The prices vary wildly and can take forever and day to drop in price. As @kylenne said, Delta algorithm seems to have no rhyme or reason. It is annoying.

I check daily when I am scoping it out. When I have a free minute I just do a simple check, takes no time at all. They can jump in price daily.

Another key thing I look out for is look at the seat map and see how many seats are still available. Wide open, flight will likely go down in price over time. Not a lot of blue open seats, book soon as fare will most like increase. Since it is for May, my guess is it's still pretty open.

The lowest I have seen as of late for CVG-MCO roundtrip is around the $235 price point.

Frontier also has direct CVG-MCO but I know you mentioned some people in your party with SkyMiles. Just another option, because you can score some really low rates ($19 one way). But keep in mind with all the added fees (baggage, seat assignment, etc) they can add up fast and be the same price if not more than Delta.

Can those with the sky miles fly delta and the others on SWA? We regularly fly on different airlines to use all of our points and look for flights that are within an hour of each other. In a recent trip from Ohio to NV, for example, we flex on 3 airlines. It actually made traveling easier not having to keep up with each other in the airport.

You can set up a price tracker, but my tip is to check the seat map of the flight. If it's nearly empty, there's a good chance the price will drop around 3 months out. If it's already starting to fill, it will probably only go up.

Except the seat tracker won't show the "basic economy" seats, because they're not assigned.

I know people say to wait until 3 months before a trip to book, but I would be sweating bullets waiting that long, especially if I'm traveling with others.

It still gives you a trend. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate to see if a flight is filling or not. You're going from a random guess to a slightly educated guess.

Right now they are empty but a couple seats

I looked on other airlines and the price is about the same.
