Lisa's Wish Journal - Now we have gone Dopey.

Monday we played soccer with the kids. DH built a regulation soccer/field goal in the back yard for DS to practice with. Soccer season is about to begin so he needed the practice. He kind of laughed when I got out there too and said "I didn't know Mom could kick a soccer ball." BAM! the ball sailed right passed him and I said "yeah, Mom can kick a soccer ball." Never underestimate your opponent, even if it's Mom. :cool2:

Walked and did Zumba yesterday. Felt really good. I have to get back in the habit as dance begins on Monday. Can't wait for that.

I have been careful with food. Trying to cut out all the snacks and making progress.....some.

Gram comes home tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to settle into a better rountine. She seemed much more relaxed the last time I spoke to her. Oldest DB is bringing her home.

Two months until our next 1/2. Time to get serious about the walking.

Lisa, it is so good to see you.

When you fell off that wagon that person you saw laying on the ground next to you was me by the way!:rotfl: We'll get back on track together.

My own ds has had the same sort of issues with school and made honor roll last semester so maybe something is in the air for our boys. A disney trip is very good motivation and I bet your son will do very well this year!

So glad Gram had fun in Houston but sorry about Beaumont. Family visits can be tough but one out of two is worth a lot!

Hang in there and don't give up. What can be done once can be done again. I know you'll do it!

Hi Amy :wave2:
Good to "see" you. Yes, let's get back on the wagon together. Please, I need the help to stay on.

Dance is tonight. Not sure who is more excited. DD or me. I can't wait.

Gram is back home. She seems to be more relaxed. We shall just have to see how things go. She already has plans to go back to Houston for a week in September and then will go back again for Thanksgiving.

No exercise this weekend, but I did do a lot around the house and gardens. FYI - if anyone ever suggests Morning Glories to you, DO NOT accept them. We finally got rid of a mutant plant that my neice planted in April. A mere slip of a plant that grew to huge porportions and was taking over DD's playset. I had cut it back the beginning of July and when the rain became regular, the thing began growing and encompassing anything and everything in it's path. But we got it out and it is gone. And the thing is, I never saw a single flower on it. :sad2: :confused3

My DB made DD and I a dvd of our dance recital. He took videos of all of our dances and put them together real nice. He even made a cover for it with our pictures on it.

Hi Lisa!

It's so good to see you! I'm glad to hear that things seem to be settling down for you and your family. :goodvibes You've had a lot going on in the past year. :grouphug:

Great job getting Zumba and a walk in! :cheer2: And yes, working around the house or yard definitely counts as exercise!

That was so nice of your DB to make a DVD of your dance recitals!:goodvibes How did your first night of dance go?

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday, my friend!

Hi Tracy.

Dance went very well. Thanks for asking. DD and I are both very happy. DD even more so as she is trying Hip Hop this year in addition to her regular class. The exciting thing about Hip Hop is it is a mixed class and her good friend Holden is in the class. They have also decided that they are going to take the gymnastics class cause they can be in it together. At least she will be getting plenty of exercise and has chosen not to do soccer this year. Soccer is okay, but the plan is for her age group to travel this year and I have no desire to have to drive over an hour away for 8:00am games.

I walked yesterday for 45 minutes, today is my rest day, but I did get out and pull weeds for a while.

I have put in for some training at work and I pray I get to go. Something my supervisor thinks would be really beneficial to me, but it is the first week of October, the beginning of the Fiscal Year. Funding is never approved by October 1, (thanks Congress for getting your job done on time:rolleyes1) but the training officer said it is possible to pay for training anyway. We shall see. I would really like to go.

Please pray for my friend April. Her Dad is getting worse. We knew he would, but he has developed bed sores. As good as she takes care of him and still he got them. She and her Mother are so tired and you can tell he is miserable and in pain a lot. We try not to ask why, but you look at him and it is hard not to. Faith is what is keeping them going. Please pray for strength for her and healing and comfort for him. A wound specialist is coming out next week, and hopefully, they will be able to help.

Yay! I'm so glad the dance class went well. :) Woohoo for your DD trying Hip Hop and gymnastics! Sounds like fun!:cool1:

Sending some :wizard::wizard: your way for the training at work. I hope you get to go. Is it at Disney?

Sending prayers for April and her mom and dad. That must be so hard on all of them. :grouphug:

Hope you have a nice day today!

Oh Lisa, I am so sad for April and her mom and dad. I have been where she is and its so hard. To live through and to understand. I am praying for them.

So glad Gram came back relaxed and it will be good for her to go back and visit (and good for you too).

Great job getting that walk in!:thumbsup2

Sounds like dd is keeping busy and active. My dd was thrilled to get Jazz Dance as one of her electives. I was thrilled since its free and we don't have the $100 a month for dance lessons this year.

Does congress EVER get their jobs done? If being an idiot was a paid job they'd all be earning their money for sure. Where is the training class?

We are back on the wagon together!!!:cheer2::grouphug:

Hi Tracy and Amy

You both know me so well. The training will be held at a Downtown Disney hotel. I wouldn't be able to stay there though because it is way over per diem. But a value suits me just fine and with a rental car it would be just a few minutes away. Haven't heard back from the training officer yet, but I am going to send him a query tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

People make fun of me to searching for training to attend near Disney, but my reason is a very simple one. I feel safe there. Yes, I still practice safety and am vigilant, but I feel safe there by myself. I know the area well and a plus is I can normally get some type of AP discount. For that week I can get a value way below perdiem thus saving $$. Also I can use the ME to and from the airport and rent a car at the Alamo on site. I would only need it for 4 days instead of 5 and save on gas and tolls.

Dance was good again this week and I walked on Tuesday for 50 minutes. Then I got sick. So I lost two days, but I am better now. Took everything I had not to go out for a walk. I really wanted to but knew better than to push myself. I have watched my food, being sick helped on that front. ;)

I hope you hear some good news about the training soon! pixiedust: Please keep us posted!

Way to go on dance and the walk this week!:cheer2: I'm sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well though. I hope you are feeling much better soon, my friend!

Have a great weekend!:goodvibes

Thanks Tracy
This weekend was good, but oh so quick.
Friday we went out to an early dinner and then just hung out watching a movie and monitoring the storm heading up the coast. We have many relatives and friends in the path.

Saturday, DD and I went for our hair appointment and ran errands. Then we let her friend Sophia spend the night. Always an adventure with that child as she does not sleep. 6-7 hours is all she needs and she is ready to go again. :faint: I need a little bit more than that on the weekends.

Today, DD and I ran a couple more errands, then DH took her to the pool for a while. Tonight DS and I went to the track to walk. We did 4 miles and kept pace at 15 minute miles. Not bad. We have different paces so it was hard for him to keep up with me, but he tried and did good.

Hi Lisa, dd used to have a friend like Sophia, when that little girl would come over I was always amazed at how little sleep she needed! I hope dd and Sophia had a good time and that Mom didn't get too worn out!

Good job not overdoing when you are sick. Your body thanks you!

I hope the training works out, I'd rather stay at a value than a DTD hotel anyway! I really hear you on the safe thing. I know WDW is not a plastic bubble but if I was to travel alone, I'd go there over anyplace else because I do think it safer than most other places. And the fact its Disney just ices the cake!

HOpe your week is a good one, that is awesome you did 4 miles in an hour. You are my role model!

Hi Amy and Tracy
Week has been good over all. Dance classes were good last week and I got in a couple walks. April came over on Thursday and I'm not sure how much we did. She was in a mood and took off like a bat out of heck. :lmao: It was all I could do to keep up. After about 45 minutes she started to run out of steam. Walking and venting will do that to you, but I think she felt much better by the time we were done. :thumbsup2

Friday I went to the coast to have lunch with a couple Disney friends. One had just been to CA and D23 expo. Good food and good conversation.

The rain from TS Lee began for us Friday morning. Rain off and on from Friday until about noon today. Rain we desperately needed. Slow and steady most of the time with a few hard stroms thrown in. We are fine in our area, a few branches down. We are very thankful and fortunate. Of course, it is over just in time for us to go back to work tomorrow. :cool2: Oh well.

Training isn't going to happen.:sad2: I think I waited to long to submit it. Cancelled due to lack of funding. Such is life. There is another one in November, my second choice and if we get any kind of funding between now and then, I am going to put in for it. The timing for the one in October was perfect, but I'll take November if possible.

Lisa, I am so bummed for you that October's training fell through but am keeping my fingers crossed that November does!:wizard:

Great job on the walks, I saw on your facebook you and ds were doing 14 minute miles. I am struggling to do an 18 minute mile so you really inspire me.

Glad you got some rain, so wish it would have gone further west into Texas as well.

Hi Amy
Thank you for saying the other day that I am a role model to you. That made me feel really good. You will get there. When I started out seriously walking for my first 1/2, I was doing 21 minute miles.

Yes, yesterday DS and I walked 6 miles at 14 minute miles. Felt good and I also felt it today. DS actually finished a bit ahead of me as he ran for the last 3/4 mile.

Speaking of DS, he made the school soccer team. He was so excited when he brought the letter home. He has worked really hard to get back on it. Helped that the new assistant coach had him on his rec team last year and was really impressed with him. He thought he was going to have to quit the swim team, but seems there is a state rule that if a student is on a team and then selected for another in another season, the second coach can not penalize the student for finishing out the first activity. DS has already achieved state time for one swim stroke and is trying to two more. He didn't want to give that up and I am very glad he won't have to. I told him between swim, golf and marathon training, he will be more than ready for when soccer practice begins the middle of October.

I found this awesome radio station that you can listen to on the internet. I listen it to it while I DIS and read email. http://www.live365.com/index.live
I hope it is okay to post the link here. Disney music 24/7. I love it. :cloud9:

Today I walked twice. First at work, I went out to the track and did two miles. I am breaking in a new pair of shoes, so I can't walk fast in them. Then tonight April and I walked for 1 hour 40 minutes. I have no clue how far we did. I lost track after 3 miles. This is the track on the side of a hill and......I'm tired.

Oh yeah, you are my role model! And I am happy to read you started out at 21 minute miles, that gives me hope. Six miles is a long ways to walk at that pace, I am in awe!!!:worship:

Wow two months until AKV, you must be super excited!

Maybe I'll see you in WDW in April? Our last full day is April 2nd, that would be awesome! I have yet to meet a Wisher in person. I did get to meet KatMark from the resorts and trip reports board once which was great, I'd love to meet some of my Wish Sisters as well!

Keep up the good work, you probably walk faster than a lot of people run.:thumbsup2

Way to go on your walks, Lisa!!! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Congrats to your DS on making the soccer team!:cheer2:

Only 2 more months until AKL?!?!? Woohoo!:woohoo:

Hope you have a great day today!

Here is a recap of my week.
Monday DS and I walked 6 miles. We did really good and I felt it the next day.

Tuesday I walked 2 miles at the work track (it's nice here this week so I got to walk outside) and then April and I walked at the track by her house. Not sure how far we walked, but we were there for 1 hr and 40 minutes. This is the track that is on the side of a hill. I really felt that one the next day.

Wednesday, I walked 2 miles at work and then April, DS and I went to my favorite track. I think we did 6 miles that night. Yep, still felt it the next day.

Thursday, I was only able to do 1.5 miles at work. I didn't go out again after I got home.

Friday was my off day.

Today was another off day. Didn't mean to take off, but I was gone most of the day driving and came home tired and in need of a shower. Didn't feel like getting sweaty again and need yet another shower. April's DD had her birthday today at a farm complete with dogs, horses, goats, rabbits and a mule. Very dusty and lots of hairy animals. It was different though and the kids had a great time.

Amy, I am trying your suggestion of walking 6 days a week but I only got in 4 days this week.

DH's brief he had to give Wednesday went very well, he thinks. Trying to save $$ from the ever shrinking budget at work. He is much more relaxed now.

I have come to the realization that I need to change my diet a bit. Every once in a while I have to delete something from what I eat. I can only eat fried food from two places and now it is down to one. I got a fried shrimp salad the other day and it didn't go well. The restaurant has changed their oil brand and it didn't sit well with me. I am also going to switch to more wheat and less white bread. Hopefully those two changes will do for a few months.

Yes, we are getting excited about our November trip. Got DH's golf ressies and those were the last ones I was waiting on to complete my schedule. It will be an action packed week. I am looking forward to staying at a new resort, but I think I spoiled them by staying at BLT last year. DS liked being able to walk to a park. I'm sure we'll enjoy this one also. Today we bought DD's Alice shoes. Found them at Payless of all places. Now we just need the hair band and she will be set. Thankfully she has decided to be Alice for Halloween also. I love it when she is willing to use one costume multiple times.

I was successful in not having allergy issues Saturday night by effectively taking the proper meds. Unfortunately I think I took too much. So, no migranes  but I was sick anyway Sunday morning. I slept until almost 12:30pm. :scared1: After a rather shaky afternoon, I began to feel better in the evening. Unfortunately, no walking for me. :sad2:

Today was back to work (after a much to short weekend) and dance class. I love dance. I can see where I have improved, I just wish I had natural grace. :confused3 Oh well, it's lots of fun.

DD began gymnastics tonight and loved it. It was a small class and she is the only true beginner, so the instructor had plenty of time to work with her.

I am trying to make a few modifications to my diet. I have gone back to milk & oatmeal for breakfast, I got rye bread for my sandwiches and fruit for snack. I felt much better. I read a couple articles today and didn't realize how bad cheese is.:confused3 I have been using it as one of my dairy sources. I'm gonna have to think on that one. I also limited myself to 3 sodas. I never drink them all, so it wasn't three full ones, but sometimes I open as many as 5-6 a day.
I have also gone back to taking the long way where ever I go at work. I had slacked up on that one and one tip in the article I read, said continus walking all day is very beneficial. So, if I have to walk to an office downstairs then I walk to the stairs at the far end of the building and back around. Plus I don't use the elevator. Stairs only for me. Even if I have a cart full of stuff, I will send it up the elevator and take the stairs and then recall the elevator to get my cart. Usually I can make it up there before the doors close. The stairs are right next to the elevators so that helps.

All of this is due to the fact that I have gotten lazy and lax the past couple of months and gained back 9lbs I had lost and said were gone forever. Guess what? They came back. :sad2:

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better, Lisa. Allergy season has really ramped up out here too!

That is wonderful that you are enjoying your dance classes! :cool1: I love dancing and wish there were studios out our way that offered classes for adults.

I'm glad your DD likes her gymnastics class!:goodvibes I was a gymnast many years ago and to this day, gymnastics remains one of my favorite sports.:thumbsup2

Great job on all of the walks you have been getting in! :cheer2: Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Have a great day today!
