Le Cellier Steakhouse?

Hey there WDWJonasGirl!

You want an honest opinion? I personally do not think it is worth the money. There are probably going to be a TON of people who are going to rip me a new one but when I give advice or information I want people to know my true feelings! :surfweb:

Listen, almost anytime you eat in a sit-down restaurant at Disney it is for the atmosphere ... not the food. Example: Sci-Fi Dine-In and Prime Time Cafe are two very fun places to eat because of the atmosphere and the entertaining staff, however, look at what you're eating at those places ... Hamburgers & Meatloaf respectively. You could go off property to a place like Perkins and get both of those meals for the price of one. You eat there for the atmosphere. :3dglasses

Le Cellier, IN MY OPINION, is a glorified steak house. :confused3 Maybe it's because my family and I don't have very sophisticated palates ... I can't tell the difference between a 1992 Merlot and a 2002 Merlot or Certified Angus Prime Cut Beef from some fat cow walking down the road. :cutie: I feel that I could get a steak prepared and be just as tasty off property at a Red Lobster, LongHorn, CattleMan's, or some other steakhouse.

Basically, every land at EPCOT has its off property counterpart. Instead of going to the Teppan Edo in Japan ... go to Kobe on I-92, and get a better show, more food, and all at a much cheaper price.

I personally don't think the atmosphere of Le Cellier is enough to make up for the pricey meals you are ordering. That being said, this isn't a knock against their food ... on the contrary ... the food is quite tasty and well prepared.

The bottom line of my little sermon is this: Le Cellier offers a nice dining experience and good food, however, I feel, neither is superior to that of it's off property counterparts. Obviously, if you have no means of leaving Disney property than this point is kind of moot but I was just weighing what you're getting (Whole picture) vs. what you're paying. Even though we are staying on property we have a rental car because we also do Universal and other things in the Orlando area.

I hope this helps in your decision ... as much as it may sound like it I really don't want to talk you out of it ... but I DO want to help you understand exactly what you'll be getting so you don't feel disappointed if you were expecting something grand. Ultimately this is YOUR vacation and YOUR decision ... do what YOU want to do regardless of the reviews you get because if you don't ... you'll regret it ... and regrets are souvenirs nobody wants to bring home!!!

Ok, yes Le Cellier is a steak house. And Teppan Edo is a teppan Japanese restaurant. Via Napoli is an Italian Restaurant. I think most people understand this. Not world shaking news. Are they expensive compared to the chain diners down the road. Yes. You're dining at Walt Disney World. Again not a big surprise. Do I want to rent a car (when I'm staying on site) to find a cheaper place miles away? Not likely.

Is the food good? IMHO yes it is. Again, only my OPINION, and everyone has their own. But we both found the cheese soup to die for. The steaks were perfectly cooked, and the wine that we had with it was a lovely accompaniement. We really enjoyed the desserts we had: the chocolate mousse and the creme brulee. Would we go again? In a heart beat.

We just got back and had lunch there our last day. I have been there several times in the past as well. I find that Le Cellier is very inconsistent. In the past the cheese soup has been wonderful but this trip it was too salty to eat. The crab and corn cakes however were absolutely delicious. The steaks were cooked fine but were not very flavorful. While not the worst meal of the trip, these were the worst steaks. They were not bad just rather bland. The desserts were also inconsistent. The maple crème brulee was amazing, the chocolate moose was very cute but just ok taste wise and the smores were bad cold, hard and plastic tasting. If you can get a lunch reservation for one credit or if you are paying oop it is worth a trip to see if you like it, but I would not spend 2 credits to try it for dinner.

I totally Agree with Minnie Mum... LOVED Le Cellier ! Visited May 2010 with DS18 and we got the Cheddar Cheese Soup and the Mushroom Filet with Subbed Cream Cheese Mashed potatoes...

I can understand that the meal certainly can't please everyone but we enjoyed Le Cellier VERY MUCH and will definitely be back!

Please read the menu and make your own opinions.... not everyone will like everything. We are also BIG Teppan Edo Fans... although we enjoy local Hibachi...there's just something special about Hibachi in "Japan" in Epcot and it's a family tradition !

Since you all are talking Le Cellier....mind if I ask a question also?

My trip isn't until October, and when I started making my ADRs, it was always booked. On a whim this evening, I started checking all my dates, and lo and behold, one ressie popped open.

Here is my question: is it good enough to warrant changing around my entire schedule? The only date that was available was a day I had planned at US for Harry Potter mania.

Nothing on my schedule is really set in stone at this point; it's our first trip, so I'm just learning how to plan this stuff out. I only chose that day for Harry Potter (Tuesday) because I had read on these boards that it's more likely to be less crowded that day.

Any advice?

Is there a steak somewhere in all that? :rotfl:

To the OP. For me, Le Cellier is an average to slightly above average streakhouse, much like an Outback that once was wildly popular prior to going signature. Now it's just wildly popular at lunch time. On the DDP as a 1ts it was a great value, now that it's a signature for dinner the raving opinions and hype has greatly diminished.

My advice, ignore those who tell you it is almost a religious experience that transports you between time and space and makes you leave this place feeling as though you had a Moses like encounter before the burning bush; It's not that. Also, ignore those like myself who will tell you it's over-rated and over-hyped and fail to see it's majestic greatness. I'm sure the truth is in between both opinions.

Go and enjoy it. Form your own opinion and then let us all know what your opinion is as to whether you are a believer or are you a non believer. :thumbsup2

Nope Totally not worth changing anything around for. I've found the food just okay, at times way too salty and NOT worth 2 credits IMHO. Go enjoy HP and eat at Magaritaville on your way out! :goodvibes

Everybody will have different opinions on this restaurant (or any restaurant).
Our's is that its a bit crowded, dark and the food is just OK. Certainly not up to its near-legend status.

You may want to read the dining reviews here when trying to decide. :disrocks:

Helloooooo KathyMFord!

I have to agree with Kat above me that it isn't worth scrambling your whole schedule and it has NOTHING to do with my review of the restaurant. :surfweb:

Listen, you've probably laid out a magnificent trip for yourself and regardless of whether you have it set in stone or not your mind is all ready keyed for that schedule. Should you start shifting reservations around for 1 restaurant, ANY restaurant, and then you go there and don't like it or it doesn't live up to your expectations then that is going to be a big whammy!

The only way I'd shift my schedule is if I had been to X before and I REALLY enjoyed it and wanted to go back! For me, that restaurant would be Ohana for dinner! :goodvibes THAT place take prescient for us and is the 1st reservation made so it can get whatever time it needs to fit our schedule. (We LOVE it that much) :thumbsup2

Besides ... the fact that you wouldn't be doing Le Cellier this time gives you the perfect excuse to plan another Disney vacation! :wizard: :cool2:

I hope I helped a little bit!!!

I have never been to Le Cellier before. What's it like?

Are you looking for a good steak or good soup.

If you're looking for good soup, Le Cellier is very good. If you want a great steak you will be disappointed.

I agree with other posters who advised not to change around your entire itinerary for Le Cellier, and we love to eat there. I am the vacation planner in our family and after fitting together all the pieces of the puzzle in our itinerary, I wouldn't ever change the whole thing around for 1 restaurant, esp. if you could possibly find lower crowds for Harry Potter (that place was super-busy, even in mid-November when WDW's crowd levels are lower).

ITA with PPs, absolutely not.

I spent months trying to get a ressie for Le Cellier for our trip in Oct 2010. Finally got a lunch ressie and was disappointed I wasted so much time trying to score the ressie. It wasn't bad...but certainly not worth the hype. The soup everyone raves about was flat out disgusting to me. The Mushroom Filet was just ok, I'd order it again subbing the risotto. Surprisingly enough, the steaks we had at Le Cellier were better than the steaks we ordered at signature restaurants even though they were average at best...go figure.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I'll just keep looking for a ressie that fits our current schedule better. I do want to try it; we always love trying new steakhouses. It's our favorite thing o do even at home!

i am honestly surprised people give Le Cellier a bad review - It is probably the best meal I have ever had in Disney hands down. I got the mushroom filet over cream cheese mashed potatoes. got the cheese soup as an app and the maple creme brule for dessert. to be honest i think everyone should try it at least once. not to mention it is a pretty cool atmosphere

I think if you stick with the steaks, Le Cellier is easily the best 1 credit restaurant on property. But that's part of the problem. Once dinner changed to 2 credits, people had to grapple with the idea that maybe the food isn't worth the same price as Artist Point, California Grill, Jiko, etc. For me, it's hard to say. I mean, compare LC to Yachtsman. Most people are saying Yachtsman is better hands down, and I guess that could be true if you want the porterhouse or something exclusive to Yachtsman. But it wouldn't surprise me if the most popular dish at both was their filet. The filets at both are 8-ounce non-prime meat served with a starch and sauce and cost about $40. At LC, the starch is mushroom risotto and the sauce is truffle butter. At Yachtsman, the starch is mashed potatoes and the sauce is red wine-based. They seem pretty even to me (I would actually pick LC's dish based on personal taste), so I guess that means Yachtsman isn't worth it as a signature either (not that I'd really dispute that - it's the signature that's underwhelmed us most).

I honestly was very disappointed in this place. Soup wasnt anything to write home about. I kept thinking "really?! this is it?"....after each sip i was hoping the next sip would knock my socks off, but it didnt....i've had far better soup at my local subway shop! Pretzel bread was NOTHING special either. And the steak, oh dont get me started. quite tasteless and fatty (i ordered the ny strip). Maybe i should have had the filet? It was a very forgetable meal. I wont be back and im still curious about the hype? The place isnt anything fancy either....tables are way too close together. Service isnt great. But thats just my opinion. All I can say is this, if you can get a ressie and you really wanna try, then go for it. But dont go with high expectations, and certainly dont change your schedule around for this place either. Have fun!
:confused3

DH and I had our first experience with Le Cellier on our September 2010 trip and we loved it! DH proclaimed that we must make a ressie each and every time we visit WDW - he loved it that much. And, honestly, so did I. But, for us, it was also the service that we received that made our visit all that amazing.
