Lack of Room Requests for online?

Staying at ASMu next month and went to do the online check in. I went to the room requests section and the only option is "ground floor". I thought I remember other options like "adjoining rooms, what section of the resort, king bed" etc as options in the past.

We need a bath tub for our son, a shower wont work. We also would prefer the Broadway section. Is it worth doing the online check in or should we just wait until arrival to go to the front desk?

They changed the request section over a year ago, the choices are quite limited now. Unless you are staying in an accessible room, you should have a tub. You can call to add requests or wait and check in at the FD. The more requests you make, the harder it may be to accommodate, but if it's only for a section and they have rooms in your category available, it should not be a problem. If you are requesting a room in a preferred building and you booked a standard room, then it's not likely it will be met. It can't hurt to do online check in, if you get the room is ready text and it's not where you want to be, don't go to the room. Go to a FD CM and ask them if anything else is available (and tell them you didn't go to the room), you may have to wait, but if it's what you want it may be worth it. Again, if available.

Also just to clarify, if you are wanting rooms with an internal door between them, the request is "Connecting". All connecting rooms adjoin, but not all adjoining rooms connect.

You should call reservations or use the Disney Chat feature in MDE on your smartphone, and have your Requests noted on your reservation. Don't make any selections during Online Check-in as anything entered will overwrite your Requests that are Noted on your reservation.

Yes you should do it in advance of your arrival since your initial room assignment is made before your arrival. Please don't wait until you arrive as fewer rooms that match your request(s) would be available for the FD to select from.

They can still move things around, even if assigned to another guest - this is coming from actual experience being a room assigner at one point in time. Contrary to what so many people think, not all rooms are assigned ahead of time (that's a logistical nightmare, assigners would be moving rooms all the time depending on a guest's arrival, it's not always known, and the goal is to get people into clean rooms and lessen FD traffic). Pre-assigned rooms are basically only rooms with very specific requests or needs (like connecting or travelling with, continuing reservation, etc). Not necessarily a preference. That is why so many of the online requests were eliminated. Rooms are auto assigned based on room type booked upon your "arrival". That's why you hear so many people saying their requests they make are not met, it is basically by chance a lot of the time.

We have started using touringplans for our room request lately, but before that we would always call in and add our room requests to our reservation. We have had times where we were sent our room number before we got there and if we did not like it, we went straight to the lobby once we arrived to try and change it. We never use the online check-in room request section.
