I just got a call this morning from the Disneyland Hotel saying that our deluxe studio garden room will be out of service due to engineering issues, along with all of those rooms, next week. My DH is claustrophobic, and also will have to work in the room during the trip, so I thought that room would be perfect because it has a patio or a balcony by the pool, it’s not in a tower, it has outdoor space, plus we can microwave! I booked it 2 months ago.

They wanted to move us into a tower without a balcony. :’( I’m sure the guy felt terrible about this. Over the years, we’ve come down from N CA to stay at Disneyland once a year, up until the pandemic started. I have a very stressful job in healthcare and also volunteer in disasters, and it has always been my happy place. We were there on re-opening day.

The guy was willing to check and see if the Grand Californian had any rooms with balconies available. He told me that he could move us there, “but a balcony room is not guaranteed.” Having stayed there in the past, I didn’t even know there were rooms without balconies! We have not gone anywhere in 2 years, but a room without a balcony would be…challenging. I’m not sure what to do, or how likely it is that the GC would give us a room without one. I understand “things happen,” but… dang.

What would you do in my position? Grateful for any thoughts.

See if first floor room overlooking the pool (patio) aka splash pad is available
Is that in the same area? He said all the garden rooms were closed. They must be having some big issue over there. Or do you mean at GCH?

Okay I have never stayed at the DL hotel so I have no idea what I am talking about. So take this with a grain of salt.

I would take the non-balcony room but ask for access to the club. Be in the same building as the club (whatever that is.). This would give your husband a place to “escape” to for coffee etc, possibly could even take a work call there.

It sounds greedy but giving up a balcony is a big deal and that would be something you would look forward to!

EDIT ***

The garden rooms are all in their own little building next to the main villas tower.

There are studios on the ground floor facing the pool but they will not have a patio or balcony. It looks like the only rooms with a balcony in the tower proper are some of the 1 bedroom and some of the duo studios. If space is the issue, maybe see if they're willing to upgrade you to a 1 bedroom?

That is a great idea!! Thank you! You are right. He would love that. We had that on our honeymoon sooo long ago, and he was in heaven.

Thank you! I haven’t been there since the studios opened, so the description helps. It looks like, on the site, there are a lot of rooms available. I will check it out!

OP, what ended up happening? Which room did you get? I hope you have a fantastic trip this week!
