On a trip with my daughter at Disneyland this week. Trying to make the best of it but we’re two days in to a 5 day pass and I’m not sure if it’s worth finishing out our passes even though I have been DYING to come back since 2018.
Construction at DLH has been intermittently really loud at the pool, and there isn’t much here for food or drink now either. I like not leaving the Disney “bubble” but the lack of amenities for a hotel this expensive has now grown ridiculous. Spent 30 minutes at the entry gate yesterday troubleshooting with employees because the app wouldn’t link my tickets. Trying to pick up the fantasmic lunch I booked was weirdly complex, with nonstop conflicting info given and food that was really gross (I mean, I’d been warned about the box lunch, and really bought it only for the seating but still…ew.) Then today we gave up after 5 long, hot pointless hours in the park because the only attraction that didn’t close or malfunction while we were in line was the Tiki Room.
Paid the $40 for ROTR (on top of the horrible genie+ service), waited all day for it, then the app mysteriously moved our time. A cast member agreed to honor our original time, but the ride then broke down and we had to be escorted off. I’ve been to the park during very busy times before, but never have seen waits or messes like this. The poor employees seem absolutely overwhelmed—maybe park attendance needs to be scaled back a bit until people are trained and rides are fixed or something?
I wish we’d just waited until next year to see if some of the kinks get worked out. I know that there are labor, service and supply chain issues everywhere you go, but when you’re looking at a vacation that meets or exceeds the cost of a trip to Europe, it’s hard to swallow so much “making it work and making the best of it.” It isn’t that we haven’t had any fun—there is always something fun here—but if I’d known it was going to be like this I would have cancelled.
