Is this a change to paying dues with gift cards?

So, my view is that you won’t be able to turn it back on. The recent notification relating to annual dues payments says:

Pay Dues Via Auto-Pay
Disney Vacation Club offers 2 options for Auto-Pay: a yearly payment on January 15 with a credit card or monthly payments with a US bank account. By registering for Dues Auto-Pay, you can enjoy the magic of Membership without the worry of missing a payment. The annual deadline to register for Auto-Pay is January 15. If your account is actively enrolled in Auto-Pay, please review your payment information for accuracy.

Note the deadline, so if you turn it off after Jan 15 you can not re-enroll. So full payment will be due if you turn it off.

You do have to cancel autopay for each contract and reenter. I had a pile of DGC's in the drawer, so it was worth it to get rid of them and pay towards 2025. I had already paid ahead towards 2025.

I saw it after someone posted!!! I am just going to continue my monthly payments and then use my CC starting in June to pay whatever balance is left for each contract, one each month.

I have plenty of us for my Disney GCs!!

I'm probably one of the village idiots here, so forgive my ignorance.

If you pay your dues with cash, but use the DGC for other Disney expenses that you would have had to use cash for when you paid your dues with the DGC, isn't it a wash?

Of course, but if you aren't traveling for a bit of time, I think it is better to use GC's rather than risk losing them or having the numbers stolen. I emptied the drawer this afternoon THANKS to the genius that found this!!

I wonder if you could call Accounting to have them apply a GC later on.

You can pay the balance off at any time so you can use a GC that way.

But, the T and C say that you won’t be able to make partial payments using those cards once on the monthly plan.

So, no, I don’t think they are going to allow owners to cover a monthly payment with a gift card any longer.

Since you are never enrolled in the monthly payment program, the system should work for you like always. What seems to have changed is DVC enforcing the rules that monthly payments must come from a bank account, and you can't go in and use a Disney GC or Disney Rewards card to cover the monthly payment....

Anyone who wants to use those choices in January and to prepay for the following year, should have no problem since you are not doing the monthly option.

It sounds like you need to be enrolled in autopayment by 1/14-1/15 if not you have the grace period up until 2/15 to have them paid in full with CC/GC/bank account

Before 1/15 you can make partial payments with CC and GC and redemption cards from the disney visa

If you want autopay the full balance in January, that is still an option

You just can’t go in and apply the gift cards to pay a balance after February, unless you want to pay that balance in full!

Gift cards can only be used for partial payment prior to January 15th…because you have to enroll to be enrolled in monthly payments by then.

Once you do the monthly plan, you can no longer pay use them for a partial payment.

Basically, after January 15th, the only thing one can use GCs for is to pay the balance in full.

I would hope that since they know a DGC can only hold 1k they will have a way to pay in full with multiple GC.

That’s amazing. I just don’t see many large discounts on GC that make it worth while. Costco had a good one last year but that was limited.

It's a lot of chasing deals to get the larger %. Sometimes it can be time consuming, but I enjoy it

That could be a problem…since this all seems to be in place to prevent people from getting the gift card benefit and the free 12 months to pay, I bet one would have to wait until the balance is below.

As @VGCgroupie said it is a bunch of chasing and combining with CC points/cash back.

Unfortunately some of the offers are regional so it certainly can vary on the savings.

If you have a target red card you can always guarantee a 5% savings but we try and shoot for as much as we can save usually targeting a minimum of 10%.

It's unclear whether the directions for disabling auto-pay, using a gift card, and re-enabling auto-pay will work only before February 15 or if you'll be able to move out and in of auto-pay for a few minutes every month as long as you're back in auto-pay in time for the monthly payment to be charged to your bank account. It is possible that you could pay with a gift card later in the year and go back into auto-pay but that the same amount will still be taken out of your bank account each month, which would defeat the purpose of using a gift card.

I’m referring to a hypothetical situation like in June. Person is currently on auto and dues are over $1k. Person finds a great deal on GC and has enough to pay the contract off now but the dues are still over $1k and Disney GC can only hold $1k. So if they were to turn off autopay to make the full payment they can’t even though they technically can.

I’m hoping accounting department would be able to help but who knows.

Again just a hypothetical scenario.
