Is Captain's Grille a walk-up restaurant?

Curious if Captain's Grille is usually so busy that we couldn't walk up and be seated? We'll be staying at Beach Club the last week of April, and I'm thinking it would be a nice place for lunch on arrival day, but I can't guarantee we'll arrive in time for lunch until that day, so I'm hesitant to make a reservation. What about for breakfast?

Although we still usually make an ADR for the Captain's Grille for breakfast, we always find that there's hardly anyone there. Now, we go in early December and we go for a later breakfast (9-ish). I imagine it's busier earlier in the morning, but I don't think it's as bad as a lot of other restaurants for breakfast. Never done lunch or dinner so I can't comment on that.

Most of the time you should have no problem doing a walk up for lunch or dinner; however they can always change in a moment. A few years ago when we stayed at the YC we also did a walk up on our arrival day for dinner and had no problems. I also just checked about availability as if I were just arriving this evening and was able to get an ADR within 2 hours of current time. I also checked for each of the next several days for lunch and dinner and still no problems. As for breakfast; I highly doubt you will have any problems. I will say that in spite of the relative ease getting into Captains Grill it was one of my most pleasant surprises at WDW and have been there a few times since that first visit and it's always been good.

I'm not sure if it's always a walk-up but I was able to book it with just a couple hours advanced notice and I tend to see it with multiple times open on the day of. When we went we did take the last ADR and it turned out they had a wedding reception there that night so it was a rather large party.

It really depends. We've walked up for late lunches, however, we once walked up to a virtually empty Capt. Grille for breakfast only to be told it was a 40 minute wait. I would simply wait until you are close by or actually at the resort and check availability on your phone. If an ADR is available then, snag it. If not, there are some other options around the Boardwalk (Fresh, Big River Grille and ESPN) which are walk-ups. We also really like Boardwalk Bakery for lunch. The food is really good and you can sit right on the Boardwalk. If you have park tickets for that day, you could also just walk into EP and eat at one of the close-by pavilions (Rose and Crown or Chefs). The QS in France is also excellent.

We've been able to do a walk-up for breakfast the last two times we stayed at BWV (2015 and 2013) and were seated right away both times. Haven't tried any other meal there, so can't speak to other times of the day. We also had good luck with breakfast walk-ups at Trattoria al Forno - love love love the marscapone waffles.

I've always been able to walk up. I wouldn't make a reservation in case your flight is delayed or anything. I would just try it when you get there. Worst case if you can't get in you can walk over to ESPN club or Big River Grille, Boardwalk Bakery. There are lots of options as backup

I'm sure you'll be able to get into Captain's Grille as long as it isn't New Year's Eve. Nice restauarant, but understated & not screaming "kids".

I have only seen Captain's Grille crowded once, at a Mother's Day brunch. Although I always try to make an ADR just to be safe, we have walked up and been seated immediately a few times.
