Is Cannabis use allowed by hospital employees in California?

zombie thread
I hadn't posted a new thread in a while and notice the DIS now suggests existing threads on your topic, encouraging you to reply to an existing thread rather create a new one. So it appears Zombie threads are now officially encouraged on the DIS like many other boards where things get clogged up with multiple threads on the same subject.

I know it's a zombie thread, but I definitely think this could be a relevant Dis topic. Over a year later and there are now way more THC products legally available all throughout the U.S. They are becoming very popular among people who would normally never have "gotten high" in their life. Grandparents are taking gummies. Anyone over 21 can drink seltzers in bars. Lots of people are traveling with their vapes. Etc. It's becoming fairly commonplace and looked upon as being similar to drinking a glass of wine or having a cocktail.

That question should have included alcohol as well. One is no worse then the other yet I have never seen the question. Is booze allowed by hospital employees.
This is my personal feeling as well. If you are allowed to consume alcohol (while NOT working), then I don't see any reason to ban another legal substance. It used to be that marijuana was included in the employee drug screen because it was illegal and alcohol was not included because it was legal. But if they are both legal, you should be allowed to consume them as long as you are not under the influence while working.

My company recently was updating our employee handbook and had to figure out a way to word our policy. We do not see any reason to prohibit the use of products with THC, but our employees work at various hospitals and surgery centers (many of which require a drug screen that includes cannabinoids). So, while we would not fire someone for using a legal cannabis product; they may be excluded from working at a certain site if they do not clear the drug screen.

However, marijuana is not legal for any purpose under Federal Law. No judgment, just fact.

It is my understanding that Delta-8 THC is considered legal at the federal level under the 2018 Farm Bill because it is derived from the hemp. I know there have been many cases and court rulings so this is not definitive and can change. You are allowed to fly with it, which I would think you couldn't if it were illegal at the federal level.

correct, and if an employer is located in any way, shape or form on federal land then it is frequently illegal for employees to use even in their off hours. even if not on federal land-many companies find that a zero tolerance policy helps keep their insurance premiums lower.

No negative comments. I am a 52 year old formerly conservative woman that lives a good life BECAUSE of Cannabis. If anybody is wanting to dabble for medical reasons and is scared, just reach out. We all have to start somewhere, there's so many benefits. It really is amazing,

My 93 year old mother had issues with her sleeping pills and her doctor suggested she switch to CBD oils

The main problem I see is that with alcohol, you can test and see if they are currently impaired, with marijuana you can’t. This is coming from someone with a steady supply of gummies in her nightstand (legal here).

well...I’ve seen grandparents casually popping gummies at family gatherings, and THC seltzers are even popping up at some bars around my area. It's wild how this shift has made the conversation about workplace policies so tricky, though.

My friend's workplace had a similar dilemma when revising their policies.

The OP asked the question 4 years ago. What matters is what the rules are that specific company has in place. When you accept employment somewhere, you are agreeing to abide by THEIR rules. Random people on the internet can guess all they want but telling your employer you read online somewhere that it is OK to use won't mean anything to those who actually determine/set your company's policies. Ask HR is still the best answer for what the OP originally asked.

The OP also isn't working in the job that he was looking at either.
