Is anyone worried?

Friends keep sending me videos about backpackers being arrested and scientists being deported. I have been told to take a burner phone to the US ‘just in case’.
I can’t believe there has been travel warnings. The last time I had booked and paid for a Disney trip, Covid put paid to it. 🤦‍♀️

I'm from the US so maybe I'm not the right person to ask.
I'm not sure why on vacation at Disney you'd be arrested or "deported" unless you were say being drunk and disorderly or getting into fights or doing illegal things...
Yes the government is messed up right now but for the most part day to day life is not looking any different.

I think OP is referring to people being turned back at airport immigration rather than being deported from behaviour whilst in the country.

OP: get your ESTA, answer the questions at passport control politely and honestly and go enjoy your holiday.

If you have a criminal record you may find trouble with customs. If not, travel safe and have fun.

Ok, thanks for your replies. I wasn’t really worried about being deported but a few people have said the US immigration is asking to look at phones etc if you are stopped. The U.K. has issued a travel warning, so it’s not all just TikTok.

Yes, they are asking to look at phones. It seems like most of the issues are coming in at JFK.

Have you thought about what you would do if something did happen ?
Do you have family that could afford to come to your assistance for example.

I’m from the UK and also worried about immigration. My family including my two young daughters are visiting this summer. This has been booked before all the American craziness, and in all honesty if I could cancel and get my money back I would. However we will make the most of it.
What are international visitors experiences? Has anyone had their phones checked? I have been critical of Trump on social media (let’s be honest what’s there to be positive about with him???). Nothing I have said is not true or violent but is it worth me logging out and temporarily deleting apps? The fact I’m even having to write that is scary!

My thoughts are with my American friends, let’s hope this dark period of history will be over for you soon.

We have just come back from the U.S. absolutely no problems at immigration and no signs of any phones / laptops being checked.

I really don’t think the regular tourist needs to be worried about it, although I would highly recommend not publicly posting about the current political situation on FB or any other social media platform.

Thanks, I’ll just logout and delete TikTok on the day as I still have the right to be critical. It’s so scary that in 2025 this is even a conversation. Does not sound very much like the land of the free anymore! We did travel last year and found immigration to be fine just like it has been on previous trips, but this was before the Trump regime.

Also I’m not being political, just honest of what is happening in the USA. I think it’s unavoidable that international guests won’t be worried, so disboards need to get used to these types of threads unfortunately.

Anyway I hope all my American friends are ok and are not too impacted by the horrific things that are happening there.

First of all, I can't believe I'm even replying to this, but here goes.

Just got back from WDW and there were a ton of UK visitors everywhere. Must be spring break across the pond as well. Either way, didn't see any ICE agents patrolling Blizzard Beach or Disney Springs deporting people.

Just go about your way, we're still letting documented people into the country. If you're a criminal or try to sneak in, yeah, you might have a problem.

You absolutely still have the right to be critical and/or supportive of whatever causes you choose. However, from a pragmatic point of view, I would be careful about where I post any opinions these days, as we know that social media platforms are monitored. If certain immigration authorities do not agree with your point of view there’s always a risk.

Thanks everyone, agreed it’s crazy that we have to discuss this. Just to be clear it’s only immigration I am concerned about, I’m sure everywhere else is as safe as it’s normally was.

I don’t often comment on TikTok about politics, but I do occasionally when it’s something that’s got to me. It’s scary that the human right to freedom of speech is in question

What about the UK??? I'd never visit now. Talk about a dark period in history. Not saying things here in the US are perfect, but...
