Inflatable Yard Decorations -- Halloween or Christmas

Do you like blow-up yard decorations?

I voted other - We bought our first one last year for Christmas. I am with the group that only likes them when they are inflated. And there are some homes that just have way too many of them. In an ideal world, I would place ours behind something so that when it is not inflated it does not look like someone dumped a bag of garbage on our lawn!

My neighbor fills every inch of his yard for Holloween and Christmas with the inflatables. I'm not a fan of them but his is situated nicely and looks okay. 3 people around me now have that 12 foot+ ghost that turns purple. I'm more the traditional, Thomas Kincade type decorating.

This is my 2nd post on this subject…..

These items are not cheap, so when people are buying them it’s because they like them. I love seeing how people decorate for the holidays - some things I like and some things I don’t like. What I do always like is driving around and seeing people’s creativity with their decorations. I’m grateful they spent the money they did to help make everyone’s holiday a little brighter and cheerier 🎅🏼🎄⭐

We have a few that go with the theme. for Halloween we have a giant inflatable spider. For Christmas we have the theme Elf-the movie, we have a 23 ft inflatable Santa, 6ft inflatable buddy the elf , 2 inflatable Christmas trees, we have large candy canes, we keep them inflated 24 hour. a day

I would happily buy certain ones, but as I like to say, they would look lovely as they flew over the roof on the first good windstorm.

We live up on top of a hill, and the wind would tear them loose during some of the more substantial winds we get up here.

I'm with several others who don't like the look of them when they're deflated. They're "not my thing" but I wouldn't call them tacky.

And, as far as having multiple, it's kind of like a spectrum I think. One or two is fine... a bunch can look kind of like a mess. However, there's a house near us that has DOZENS in a small yard... and, I don't know, it kind of gets cool again when they're en masse like that. Every time you drive by, you see something new: "Oh, I hadn't seen Yoda in a Christmas Sweater before! Did you see the Minion with the gift box? Hey, look! There's Snoopy!"

I really like the inflatables as long as they're not just thrown on the lawn. There's one house near me where the entire lawn is covered with the inflatables and it looks horrible. However, if you have a couple on your front lawn or more than a couple but you have the rest of your lawn decorated in some sort of theming, then that's a-ok in my book.

I voted "other" - my answer kind of changes with my mood. Sometimes they make me smile and sometimes I think they're a little too much.

We did have a small one for a few years when DS was younger - a Santa popping up out of a chimney. We always set the timer for the afternoon instead of dusk, so the neighborhood kids could enjoy it walking home from the bus stop.

I agree about not liking the deflated look, though. Once it wore out, we didn't get another.

I like them IF you take care of them. We have a neighbor who puts up about 20 of them at Christmas (he does Halloween, but only five). But... they only look good for one night because he doesn't tend to them after that. So if the wind blows them down, or they come unplugged, or whatever, he doesn't bother to fix them so they look nice again. It's just a war of attrition from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Last year DH and I took bets on which one would be last man standing. (He does the same with all of his lighting. If a string of icicles goes out, too bad. If a bush net goes out, oh well. He makes this huge effort and then just lets it flop.)

But if you put them up and keep them going all season, I'm all for it.

Years ago I heard about a fellow employee in NJ who had many of them in her yard, both for Halloween and Christmas. When I was in the area on other business I made a detour to see them. She went all out, with at least a dozen for Halloween and two dozen for Christmas.

They were a mish mosh of various styles and sizes, and I’m sure many would consider it tacky. Sometimes too much IS too much.

After I sold my parents’ house, I rode by the next December and the new owners had a few, including a revolving ferris wheel with cute reindeer, elves, and other characters in the seats.

We have one but it has nothing to do with how easy it is to store (I thought that part of the poll was weird so I voted Other). My DS was a major lover of snowmen when he was growing up, if there was snow, our front lawn had a snowman, or two or three. Now that we live in a condo and DS is long since grown, an inflatable snowman is part of our outdoor decor just for nostalgia’s sake. :goodvibes

I'm mostly amused by them. It's funny when they collapse in the yard after partying all night. It's funny when people cram their whole yard full. Some are so ugly I have to laugh, some are so cute they make me smile.

I very much doubt it's anything I will ever collect or display myself, but I think they're doing the job of spreading joy - to my family, at least. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to make their homes extra festive for the rest of us to enjoy, I've never had the knack, the budget, or the energy to do much.

I like them but I just seem to have a hard time with them.

All yard decorations are tacky. That's the point. LOL

I can't seem to keep mine standing upright and they all look like they have been partying too hard even when inflated so I gave most away. Plus I don't like having to wire my yard with extension cords and what not.

I have a 7 foot black cat on a pumpkin this year and a smallish Mickey and Minnie one for Christmas.
