I want rent an RV @ FW

From the Fort Wilderness Amenities webpage:

RV Rentals

Surround yourself in the beauty of nature while still enjoying the comforts of home—courtesy of an RV rental!

Before and after a day of play at one of our magical destinations, you and your family can rest and relax inside your very own RV! Featuring some of the same amenities as our Resort hotels, RVs provide a perfect middle ground for those who simply can’t decide between a campsite or cabin.

Best of all, you can even have an RV delivered right to Walt Disney World Resort—meaning you can get your “outdoor” adventure started the second you arrive, without dealing with any additional hassles!

RVs can be rented by contacting a Disney Featured Provider, including:
When renting through one of these providers, you do not need to be present when the equipment is delivered to the Resort. The provider will work with our Cast Members to manage deliveries, set-up and returns of the rented RVs.

Although I've never rented a trailer/rv at FW, I WOULD recommend using one of the Disney-featured providers as opposed to some company not listed but offering service. Getting Disney's approval and cooperation means that featured rental company will offer a level of customer service similar to what Disney would offer in their own properties.

I'm not saying there will never be a problem with a provider. But I AM saying your chances of having a good experience (even if something unexpected happens) are better with a featured provider.

Personally, I've read this board for many years and heard many rental stories and that's my take-away on that subject FWIW.

Others have given you good advise but I'd like to ask why you want to rent one? I'll preface this by saying we own a fifth wheel and have stayed at the Fort and will be there again the 1st week of December this year so love the Fort and our RV. Having gotten that out of the way, have you ever stayed in a RV? Is price the reason? Is it you just want to stay at the Fort? I don't know how much it costs to rent one but I'm thinking once you pay the rental cost, the cost for the site and possibly rent a golf cart, you could probably stay in a moderate resort for the same price. The Fort is fun and definitely has a vibe totally different than any of the resorts but it's huge and if you plan on visiting any of the parks other than MK, you have to take the buses. So you either rent a golf cart and park it at the bus depot or you take the internal buses to the bus depot to get to any of the parks. Like I said, we love our RV and love the Fort but neither are for everyone.

Yes we have own an RV here in Michigan, and the Rental price was less than we thought even with the site lot. The golf card price is not an issue. We just wanted to try something different

I would recommend Meachams, they have excellent customer service, have been an authorized vendor longer than anyone else and they have a great selection of campers. I have had many friends and family use them. You wont be disapointed.

We rented from Meachams for our daughter, SIL and grandkids to stay in next door to our site where we stayed in our motorhome. Worked out cheaper than renting a cabin and proximity was better.

Not the OP but we are renting from Meachams next spring and yes, it’s expensive and I could have rented points and stayed DVC one bedroom for the price of everything BUT we are a party of 6, traveling with 3 rough and tumble little boys, and like to cook a lot of our own food. We have stayed at the fort before with our kids (tent camped and cabin) but thought the grandkids would really enjoy camping and everything the fort had to offer. We are country people and the thought of keeping the boys in line at a moderate or deluxe resort sounded like too much work. (I refuse to stay at an All Star, a girl has to have some standards, AKA hot tub!!!!)

After experiencing, I'll call it, a not good experience having a trailer dropped onsite at FW, I would suggest the WDW approved vendors. It's been a few years and although I won't share the company name online, I can now give more details.

The camper we wanted was swapped only a few days before our arrival. The primary reason we selected that unit was for the 2nd toilet/sink. We received a "newer" unit, but it failed in other ways.

The unit we were given:

Did not have the pop-out done to the master bedroom. This would have revealed a nice sitting/reading area.

The unit was delayed delivery by at least 3 hours with random, intermittent phone calls about how busy they were.

The canopies were not operational. The LED lighting on the canopies didn't work or matter. This was a real bummer as we wanted to eat under the canopy at night.

The rear of the trailer did have a deck, which was a huge plus. However, there were no door(s) or screens on the deck once it was dropped. Since that area also served as additional beds, the back of the trailer needed to be lifted and secured each night (with folding rails and many pins). That was fun doing it each night in darkness <said sarcastically>. And then in the AM, the reverse had to happen. This was a complete failure as we were told something along the lines that they just received that trailer and didn't notice this oversight. Maybe, but that didn't exactly instill confidence in their company.

The golf cart was free with this rental, but the hack job on the wiring had me fear for shorts. It was buzz-bad-buzz-buzz.

The unit was nice, but not what we specified, wanted or would have selected.

The owner did agree to provide some monies as compensation; however, it took almost 1 year of constant checking with me finally filing a complaint with a business overseeing authority to get some movement. The "check is in the mail" never came to fruition and it took escalating it to a more public eye to get the money order (not a check). The owner did offer a free rental for the same duration early on, but I can't even imagine the hoops I would have to go through to get that completed (which I wouldn't do after my complaint filing).

My takeaway is simple. Stick with the Disney vendors. Our experience didn't effect our views of FW and camping but was a company selection misfire.

Unless you are driving the RV in and setting it up yourself you can only rent from the 4 listed vendors on Disney's website.

This is incorrect.

Non-preferred vendors have been coming in and setting up for years and still can. There are differences between preferred and non-preferred in terms of how those vendors interact with the Fort CM's and whether or not you (the guest who reserved the campsite and the camper separately) get involved and to what degree (or not).

The policy you shared IS the policy for off-site golf cart rentals though. Disney is more expensive for cart rentals but also more convenient. Off-site rentals must driven by the guest through the security gate and provide proof of insurance (which your provider will have given you already).

The reason for the difference in policies (one for rental trailers, one for rental golf carts) is that the golf cart vendors ARE IN COMPETITION with Disney's golf cart rental product. Besides higher prices, Disney does not offer discounts for multi-day rentals. So Disney make it LESS convenient to use an off-site cart provider.

Rental trailers, on the other hand, are not offered by Disney directly but ONLY through off-site providers. Some off-site providers are preferred because they can work more closely with Disney (who I'm sure gets a cut for listing the vendor on the Disney website). And some providers are not preferred (covered above).

PS - and the usual caveat goes that if this policy changed recently (because it hasn't been mentioned here that I'm aware of), someone will provide specific details.

May of 2024. I don't know that I would call that recently. And pages blew up every where over it. There is even a lawsuit from a vendor over it. Same vendor who stiffed a lot of customers who already paid for their rental.

Uh huh. But that was an issue unique to that vendor and not all non-preferred vendors as a whole as far as I am aware. They're not the 1st vendor to stiff customers on this particular website. That's old news.

If all non-preferred vendors have a new policy as you claimed, please provide the specific details (links, info) as requested above. What you provided is a vague reference to one particular vendor (that anyone here for any length of time was already aware of). Please show the public change in WDW policy to non-preferred providers.

And please show the DIS Camping Forum "pages" that blew up. Not other FB or social media pages.

Thanks,

Bama Ed
