I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

We had a BIG crash and burn late last week, and into the weekend at my house... on Monday my 9 year old ginger tabby cat was diagnosed with (likey - we didn't do surgery to biopsy) large cell lymphoma after $5k in ER and blood transfusion costs on Thursday, and a trip to the animal oncologist. It's a very poor prognosis and an even poorer life expectency (few months maybe with daily steroids to put the cancer in remission). He really isn't acting all that sick and honestly the only thing we've really noticed is that he's lost weight and that he's a little more lethargic. We are all completely devastated, and it's a huge blow emotionally. We're very big animal lovers.

I just got my new CIP this month, and now I have totally blew through that spend already between these vet costs and paying my Federal taxes. Pray tell - when can I apply for another Chase business card?

So sorry about your cat 🙁 ….we have have a 15 year old yorkie/****zu mix…she has had kidney disease for 2 years now and they thought she only had a month or two based on her blood work….hopefully you have more time with your baby
As far as the chase card the recommendation is 3 months between applications

We'll be there in June - maybe I'll see you guys there! Arrive June 11th at CDG, head to Disneyland Hotel until the 14th then head to Paris and staying in an Airbnb until the 21st and then headed to Spain via train. Taking Eurostar to London on the 18th and spending one night there and doing some London things - including a double decker bus that serves afternoon tea (which was recommended on here).
Oh that would have been fun to run into another DISer in real life. We aren’t there untilJuly and then again in August.

Sorry to hear. We are dealing with something similar. Our 10 y/o schnauzer mix, Luna, collapsed last week. A week of hospital visits, tests, and $6.7K later: she has a malignant tumor on her heart and there's nothing else that can be done. We are devastated. At least her brother and litter-mate, Apollo, is very healthy as far as we can tell. But what's happened with Luna was very sudden. They drained the fluid build up from her heart and she suddenly seems herself again--happy for meal time, walks, belly rubs. But we are told she has days to weeks before her heart fills with fluid again and starts to make her suffer, and the tumor is a kind that spreads rapidly, so at the first sign of distress we'll say goodbye. 😭

On the CC front, last week I had DH take a 200K MR Biz Plat offer that was showing up on his account. The card is finally out for delivery today and I got the specialist hospital ($4.4K-worth of last week's pet bills) to agree to reverse our payment and charge it to this new card, but they'll only do it if it's by end of day today. So I'll call as soon as I get home. The rest of the bills already helped us meet a personal plat retention, so all the spend is going toward some high-point value or other. . . talk about silver linings. . .

Thanks on both of these, @palhockeymomof2

Hoping that the prednisone works to kill some of the cancer, as they say that it will, as he's in really good spirits, chasing bugs, demanding more tuna, telling off the dog, doing his normal cat stuff. We are not ready to let go or for him to let go. It's been especially hard knowing that we have a 3 week European trip taking place in less than 60 days and there's SO MUCH unknown right now.

As for the kidney disease so sorry to hear about your pup. My 16 year old cat has had "kidney disease" for years - I'm thinking 3-4 years?... and we feed her K/D solely. Last time I took her to the vet she was no longer in kidney failure. That K/D worked.

I'm so sorry. I am right here with you all on the roller coaster of emotions. My heart truly goes out to you.

Our cat's brother (litter mate) is very healthy as well as far as we know. But the symptoms came on rapidly so now we're hyper vigilant with everyone in the house.

I'm emotionally and physically drained from worry.

she is on K/D food only as well and her numbers have gone down from when she was diagnosed…so that’s good…just hard watching her get older and no longer able to jump on our bed etc….

The Mr&Mrs Smith (MMS) partnership with Hyatt launched today. I checked a few hotels for redemption and the points costs were insane. A hotel in Canggu (Bali) was $310 cash and 44,000 points. Another in Paris was $510 cash (next April) and 47,000 points. Apparently more hotels will be loaded every few months, but with the points cost I don't have any expectations that I will be making redemptions for my travels. Also the locations of the MMS hotels weren't good, at least not what I'd consider good (I checked London, Paris and Bali). Such a disappointment.

Paris Planning

Two days is plenty of time for DLP. I would recommend staying onsite for DLP and closer to the areas you want to visit in Paris for the sightseeing part of the trip. We are back this summer and are doing 2 nights in Paris at the Hyatt Regency Etoile on points, URs transfer to Hyatt. We plan to check out and head to DLP from there. The first time we visited we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel which we loved, last year we stayed at Sequoia (it needs a refurb) and this year we are at the Hotel New York. We are doing 1 hotel night with a 2 day ticket package. We plan to spend the day and evening when we arrive, check out the next day, leave our luggage at the resort, spend the day at the parks and then catch the Eurostar to London.
I'm going back this summer and staying at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome again, on Hyatt points (with a transfer from Chase) because it's my favorite place in Paris. There are a lot of places in Paris where you can stay with points, though, and this one uses up a LOT of points, so I hesitate to suggest it (but I really do enjoy staying there). If you are Hyatt Globalist the included breakfast is unbelievably amazing. :cloud9:
We then moved to Paris and stayed at the Hyatt Regency on points. That worked out the best for our family since we needed 2 rooms a suite is less than 25K points. I wish we would have stayed closer to the City Center, but the Regency isn't bad and if you have globalist benefits the lounge is nice for breakfast and evening snacks/drinks.

If you have enough UR, I highly recommend the Grand Hyatt Paris Vendome. I stayed there in 2022 and it was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. It was also the perfect location for all the main sights. We walked to the Louvre and Arc de Triomphe, and the Opera Metro station was right around the corner. Last year, I stayed at the Hilton Paris Opera, which is a little farther away from the Opera station but literally in front of the entrance to Saint Lazare train/Metro station. I said I wouldn't stay there again when we got back, but a year later I am looking back on it with a better opinion. The room was nice, had Diamond status so could have bkfst in the lounge or the restaurant. Lobby/bar is beautiful. My main complaint was the area right around the hotel was the train station and all the traffic/noise that brings with it. I had been spoiled by the much quieter street the Grand Hyatt was on (plus the tourist crowds were still lower in 2022). Our room was on the street side at Hilton and there was no road noise that bothered us. In fact, we even opened the bathroom window one night because we were so warm (in May). I considered most of the properties that have already been mentioned when I was researching, and all of them looked like great choices.
Thanks! I will be sure to check out all of the Hyatt Hotels. We like being able to walk to sites, but don't need to be right next to them.

we went straight to dlp from cdg, stayed there, then got a driver to Paris and stayed there. Staying onsite makes it so much more manageable. used Hilton points for stay in Paris, miles to fly United RT. cash oop for disney. 2 full days is more than sufficient.
We have plenty of MR and UR for this trip. I find UR to be much easier to transfer because I've done it. We are in a United hub, so that's what we usually fly if the price is right, but Air France and AA also have daily non-stops to Paris. I'm trying to research checking Virgin or ANA or others to transfer to so I can make the most out of my points (especially the MR ones), but I am a little intimidated. The goal is to use MR first to start to deplete them, and then fall back on UR. Going to Europe, I like to sit in Business or First so I can pretend that I will get sleep. On the way back, economy is fine.

It sounds like 2 days is plenty for DLP. I did start reading on the DLP forum to get some more info. I am not able to book our dates for the onsite hotels yet but  on prices. I have no problem splurging on points for a room, but real money is a hard thing to part with at those rates. We are planning on going in May or early June next year.

I've been looking at this too and am also going in may. I used random march dates and it was a bit cheaper on the uk site than on the US site. I didn't check any others because I was on my phone. When we went in 2018 the us was the cheapest. We booked in Nov for May and had this special

Package: This price includes Early Booking offer with 2 nights and 2 days FREE , plus FREE Hotel and Park Tickets for kids under 7! Book by 5 Feb 2018.

It was only $1800 for club room at sequoia. I'd forgotten we'd gotten a deal like which explains why I had such sticker shock looking at 3 nights.

I'm not sure how soon to book. I'm hoping they'll have a date for frozen opening at d23 so I kind of feel like I need to book before that since I'm planning to be there the week before memorial day. Reading today with the studios building closing today and hoe they expect the new entrance to open in a year with frozen I'm not sure they'll have any special rates.

Totally bought a ramp years back for my kitty (then maybe 12, but now 16 in two months) in anticipation. All of the cats use it in my room. We've now moved it to my daughter's room where I insist that my orange cancer patient use it, but you know that he does what he wants!!!
So glad to hear that your lady's kidney numbers have gone down. That $70/bag (for the K/D cat version) is worth it in my eyes!

I do have steps for her but she refuses to use them, so I just bring her into bed with me and take her off the bed when we get up

We spent almost 3 days at DLP (really, 2 full days, plus the evening of arrival and the morning of departure) but we're the types that need to see every detail and hit all the restaurants with good theming to see those details... I find the Castle Park very beautiful

ETA: stayed at Sequoia Lodge both times we've been because it's a great value, but next time I hope is for Disneyland hotel. Also planning for next year as my mom really wants to go so we're going to make it happen for her

So if I don't get a vacation in the works soon I'm going to crumble. I canceled a Disney Cruise in March (thank goodness because the cruise was actually the week my father passed away) and Japan in May because I just couldn't plan anything. I've got about 800K URs but I'm okay with using cash. I really want to do something with my mom. She loves to travel and really hasn't taken any trips since they sold their Michigan house in 2022 (with the exception of a weekend in the Poconos last September for my sister's wedding) but she doesn't really have anyone to travel with now. She does have a group of ladies that she cruises with annually (Celebrity) but I think next year they want to do a road trip which she's not too keen on.

I'm thinking of either asking her if she wants to do a cruise in September (good time to get out of Florida and her birthday)--thinking Europe or Boston/Maine/Canada--or seeing if she wants to join me and the kids on our Disney Cruise next summer (Italy and Greece). I just need to figure out how to approach it because I don't want her to feel obligated but I also don't want her not to come because she's worried she'll slow us down. I just know she needs a vacation after spending eight months taking care of my dad (numerous doctors' appointments every week and the final two months spennding 12 hours a day in the hospital) and the immense loss she's dealing with. We both need something to look forward to:)

Lucky you! We will be there in July and I think June will be much nicer and less crowded. We took the TGV to Barcelona from Paris last summer. It was long, but it was nice to see the countryside. Eurostar to London is amazingly quick and easy.
Oh that would have been fun to run into another DISer in real life. We aren’t there untilJuly and then again in August.
We'll be there in July (staying again at the PHPV for a short few days before heading to Amsterdam).

My favorite is using MRs for a direct flight on AF to CDG. It's a very quick and easy transfer of points. With the points transfer being such a good deal I have been reserving my URs for Hyatt stays.

I think it's really nice that you want to invite your DM along. We did the same with mine under similar circumstances. I just told her that we would love for her to join us but that we didn't want her to feel obligated to go if she didn't want to. That first trip was quiet and relaxing and healing. Other trips she joined us on were more active (like WDW). We loved having her along and were really sad (still are, really) when her back started giving her enough problems that she no longer wanted to travel. It sounds like it would be really good for your mother to get away for a bit.

Speaking of Paris and DLP, can someone tell me what is special enough there to get me to give up a day in Paris to take the train there? I've been, it was fun, but the opportunity cost of a day in Paris is really high IMHO. I'm not trying to say it's not worth visiting. I'm trying to plan my 3 days in Paris and I'm just not sure if I want to give one up for Disney. Last summer we had a week there and didn't find the time. Basically I'm trying to justify it I guess. I still need to plan out a couple of my days. :rotfl:
