I'm just guessing but I figure there will be a second stimulus check.
Also, the 6.6 million may be inflated by people who won't qualify but file anyway, or that find other employment.

I think those that get denied will be more than offset by those still trying to get in the system. Or Macy's paid for two weeks but is now furloughing so those employees will start hitting the numbers.

Well, I just cancelled the first bit of our Europe trip - the UA tickets. Miles are already back in the account. Was told taxes/fees refund would go back on original card. Hopefully no issues with that happening.

Dh and I went to get gas today, trying to be as careful as possible. I didn't get out of the car. Then I noticed tons of people over at our big sports complex so I asked him to drive over there to see what was going on. There were so many groups of people out playing sports and weren't following the 6 foot rule at all. I'm not sure what it's going to take for people around here to understand. One group was about 15 teenagers wearing matching uniforms so I can only assume it was a sports practice. They were in a tight group throwing a ball around. I'm all for people going out and exercising; I think that's great! I love seeing more people out lately that are exercising or playing outside. Seeing big groups like that does make me nervous, though.
I agree with @Judique - those who aren't *yet* highly affected areas have a different understanding of how this is gonna proceed... And I think Florida is one of those places that hasn't even really started the 'curve' yet. I can tell you being from the 'hotzone' tristate area has changed my outlook on all of this. When I first heard all of this,I just assumed it would blow over and be minor. Now I know different.

Or the 6.6 million is an undercount because of people who couldn't get through to their state's unemployment office online or by phone

Our son (26 yo) shares a house with 3 other people. He is the only one still employed.

That is a real possibility. Since I live in an area where jobs are still available and workers are still being actively sought by some businesses, and since my whole family is fortunate enough to still be working and mostly all able to do it from home, my observation may be skewed.

I've never used DH's Platinum Uber credit for Uber Eats. They sent out an email this morning saying we had $15 credits to use at Uber Eats. No time like the present to take a look at that. I downloaded the app and we have very few choices by us. I might see if my DD can use it!

It's tricky. I mentioned earlier that we had an employee quit to take a new job then get fired from that job. The unemployment claim did go against us even though she quit because she hadn't been at the new employer long enough.

Did you have to attend a hearing? My experience in a couple of cases resulted in us not having to pay because we kept excellent records documenting that the employee refused work. And we also had the ability to say, 'we have work available for this employee' since we were never fully staffed.

Oh no!! That’s tragic! ...I think I would take my kid home and not let another soul near it until this was done. Well, maybe a DH if I had one. He could sneak a visit in if I passed out. But honestly he would be it.

This has been basically our strategy. Neither the kids or I have left the house in 3 weeks and DH only for work and to pick up groceries. At work he closed his job trailer to everyone but him and sanitizes constantly.
My mom and her husband had been staying with us off and on. They live in an RV and are usually traveling but have been back for health issues and Drs for a while. They are parked north of us now and when this whole thing started they were not taking it seriously. Shopping daily, etc. DH and I had to make the decision that they wouldn't be able to come stay with us for the time being since we have the baby.
It appears the virus is definitely less dangerous to infants and children. But my DH was saying kids can have underlying health conditions too and sometimes they are still undiagnosed because they are so young. It just doesn't seem worth the chance.

Yes we did. We were happy the employee quit so didn't want her back. But the claim went against us because she hadn't been with the new company long enough for it to go against them.

Totally OT, but I’m thinking of getting a gaming system since we’re stuck in the house. DS plays games on his iPad but I’m looking for something that has 2 player games. DS loves Minecraft and any sports (NFL, NHL, soccer). Not interested in Call of Duty, Fortnite or anything similar. Do all systems play pretty much the same games? Major differences between say PS and Xbox? Other options? Is my regular TV good enough (it’s not big) or do you need something bigger and fancier? Also are there any games that incorporate physical activity? (I’m thinking like the old Wii)
DS has PS4 and plays Minecraft and all the sports games. Xbox and PS both offer the same games. Plays online with friends. Online play subscription is an added cost for both systems. Your TV is fine. DS told me he'd like to get a smaller TV for his PS4. I think with the space in the loft, where he plays, he's probably sitting too close.

I bought Cancel for Any Reason from Allianz - I don't think it covers my flights that were booked with points, but if you find a way to recover your points can you please post it? I guess I really need to cancel everything but I just don't have the heart to do it yet. I worked so hard to get those flights, hotels, etc. and it's just disappointing. I know it's not going to happen though, so I really need to go ahead and work on it sometime soon. :(

Hopefully I won't have to cancel the cruise I booked on points (it is in December) But look at your policy. I know some of the airlines will charge a fee to have your points reinstated - The policy I have will pay $75 towards that cost. So, may be worth it to pay a little to see if they can reinstate your points. (Example Delta charges $150 so I would essentially pay $75 to have my points reinstated if I need to cancel - that for me would be better than losing all the points) But each policy is different. Take a look at yours and call them and ask.

I got 20 pages behind here again so I just jumped up and read the last three pages here. In sad news, I'm going to have to cancel our Japan trip  Our state is now under stay at home orders until June 10--our flight is June 7. Japan has also now banned foreign visitors indefinitely. I'm pretty bummed about it, though I know things could be much worse for us. It's just like, dang... first class round trip JAL flights too and I can't go!! I'm just waiting for AA to extend the cancellation period to our dates and then I'll cancel.

Can you reschedule for next year? Maybe with the date change for the olympics the tickets will become available again and you can try for it.

I'm hoping my friend and I will be able to get the time off I want and we don't get pushed back into August so we can avoid it. I don't think overlapping with the end of the parolympic games will cause us too much issues. I'll have to look into it though, suppose we could always do the trip backwards from what was planned if we had to.

There's no real way to spin this into a positive. The best we can hope for is that this is a short lived, temporary shock.

I am still holding out hope on my July trip. Though it gets harder everyday. I made the decision last week to just book flights, they got so cheap and the airlines are saying no change fee and waiving fees to redeposit miles. I figured if I could not go, it would be the bans are in place and I could cancel. Even if I lost the miles, it would not be a deal breaker.

I have a July trip too, that I was sure would be fine. But every day I also lose hope, and it's starting to wear on me.

Well guys we finally broke down and did it. With our trip to Australia on life support and lots of time at home, we decided it was time for a new family member (and very excited DS!) We welcomed Tati into our home. I’m a glutton for punishment.

Adorable!
