In order to make this tree (see centerpiece tree pictured below), you need to use star-shaped cookie cutters in varying sizes. We used a kit called the COOKIE TREE KIT by Wilton which has 10 star cutters from very small to very large. You can find the set at this website. (Unfortunately, it appears to be out of stock at the moment.) COOKIE TREE KIT
1. Prepare the Rice Krispie treat recipe according to the directions on the RK box. You will need a double recipe for a full tree. We add a little green food coloring to the melted marshmallow/margarine before adding the Rice Krispies Another option is to stir in rainbow-colored or red and green nonpariel sprinkles.
2. Press the RK treat mixture into the star cookie cutters, making two of each size. This mixture can stick to your hands. If you have a problem with this, try rubbing some margarine on your palms.
3. Unmold the stars onto a wax-paper covered cookie sheet. Cover the stars with wax paper to keep them dust-free. We let these set for a few days so they get fairly dry--otherwise the "branches" tend to droop when they are stacked.
4. Stack the stars rotating the points. At the top, set one of the tiny stars up on its edge. You can make the tree more secure by using toothpicks between the stars or by putting a little frosting between each one. We sift a little confectioners sugar over the completed tree to look like snow.

These Rice Krispie trees are very EASY to do. Little children would have a wonderful time doing this--and the finished product looks really nice. Have fun!

Word on the street is that you can make Rice Krispie treats with Fruity Pebbles. Makes for a more colorful tree!!

I hadn't thought of using those, Fergie. We usually use the "Holiday" Rice Krispies, which are red and green. They work pretty well, too! :)

I wish someone in our family actually liked rice crispy treats. I like one once in a while, but not enough to eat a whole tree by myself. DH won't eat them, and neither of my parents *can* eat them. :( Because that looks like *so* much fun to make!!

This is great, thanks for the directions. I'll have to try this next year :)

Thanks for the directions... I only have one problem with them... waiting to eat the Rice Krispy Treats (I love them to death!) :teeth: I will have to try making them sometime though.

Thanks! I am going to try this as soon as I can find those cookie cutters.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am by the gorgeous picture of all the cookies you made. Would you please share some of those cookie recipes with us?

Ditto, Jeafl, I'd like to see some of the recipes, too. That is SUCH an impressive array! :) :) :)

Thanks for the instructions!!

That is just SO cute!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I have to make that next year!:D

Thanks so much for the instructions, I can't wait to make one. If anyone finds a place with the cookie cutters in stock please let me know.

When we originally bought the Wilton Cookie Tree Kit, we found it in a craft store called Michaels. I didn't check this year to see if they had thr kit again, but perhaps a craft store would be a starting place for finding the cookie cutters --at least until Wilton has them in stock again. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you Both!! I had to re-read the instructions and, click on the link, to see the STAR-shaped cutters! I was sooo confused before I did that! But, all questions are now answered!! :) Thank you for sharing your beautiful work! :sunny:

If you can't find the cutters you can always make patterns out of cardboard. Just cut out different sizes and cover with tin foil. Then place the pattern on the rice krispie treats and cut out with a knife dipped in warm water.

figmentvi you're a genius! Now why didn't I think of that?

I'm off to buy some Rice Krispies...

Awwww shucks
