I froze some sandwich bread for my daughter because our local stores are no longer carrying the kind she is not allergic to. I packaged them in 2 slice groupings and now I need to know the best way to defrost them. Should I do it in the refrigerator or on the counter? How long will it take? Thanks for the help.

Did you freeze them in a baggie? I'd just leave the baggie on the counter. Should defrost fairly quickly....less than half an hour.

I just put my frozen loaves on the counter, and within an hr, it's totally defrosted. If I'm really in a time crunch, I'll throw a couple slices in the microwave for a few seconds.

We freeze bread all the time (we buy a double loaf at Costco because it's so cheap) - but we just throw the loaf in the freezer in its' original packaging.

When we're close to needing it, we take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge (which is where we always keep bread anyway). I'll do it in the morning when we need bread for lunch, or at night when we'll need it the next day.

Defrosts nicely and you can't even tell it was ever frozen! Plus, we save money.

Take them out of the baggie and lay each on a paper towel or napkin. It should only take about 15 to 20 minutes to thaw.

I take bread out of the freezer each morning for sandwiches as soon as I get out of bed. I place individual slices on a clean dish towel and then fold it over the top so they are 'sandwiched' between 2 layers of cloth. They're usually ready to make sandwiches with when I get out of the shower. I have tried leaving them in the plastic wrapping before, but often found the corners went soggy.

I just use the bread frozen to make sandwiches in the morning. By lunch time, the bread is fine (and not soggy).

I also make my own uncrustables. :)

I do the same thing! I've never had a problem with it being frozen by the time I am ready to eat it.

And as the pp said, you don't get a soggy sandwich!
