How It Feels When Your Disney Castaway Cay Day Is Canceled

Disappointing for sure, but this time a year you always run that risk.

I do think that how many on Disboards feel about missing Castaway is not going to mimic the same level of disappointment a new DCL cruiser might feel who has saved for years to sail and might not be able to return. A lot of us can shrug and say it sucks, but for many of us we have been able to experience it and will have opportunities to return- this is not true across the board and I would never begrudge a guest for being upset about it as long as they don't take it out on the crew.
This. We are about to take our first cruise in 15 days. Huge Disney fans. We have saved for 2 years for this cruise. Picked a unique itinerary repositioning cruise that goes to both islands- high draw being the Disney islands. I do understand it would be out of anyone's control, but should this happen on our cruise I would be very disappointed. It's good to hear that the crew pivots to make the day still special.

Does Disney provide any comp for missing the CC stop? Especially if the cruise is suppose go to both private ports. Those itineraries seem to be expensive because of demand. Or at least refund port taxes?
No, it’s a risk of being on a cruise. If you read the cruise contract, they could sit in port for the length of the cruise. However, generally if there’s a mechanical issue they will try to provide a future discount. If it’s weather - nope. The only time I’ve seen them do it when it’s weather related is if there’s a hurricane and the whole itinerary has to be redone. Its clearly used as an incentive to keep people on the current modified cruise as opposed to cancelling outright.

Funny enough, we were on the Treasure last week with our Castaway Cay day being the last day of the sailing (Friday). Midway through the cruise, word started to spread about another DCL ship that wasn't able to dock at CC that morning. Based on the article, it appears that it was the Fantasy that wasn't able to stop. Tough luck, but it happens.

Not to pour salt on the wound, but our CC day on Friday was absolutely perfect. In all honesty, it was the best weather day we have had there...perfect temperature and no wind. I will say the water was a tad chilly, but our bodies acclimated once you were in and swimming.

We missed our CC day because they couldn’t dock. Clearly it was something no one could visually see because there were barely ripples in the water and the sky was glorious. My hubby having been on an aircraft carrier in the Navy was truly baffled why they couldn’t dock bcz everything “looked” ideal. Given we had only cruised DCL once before and it had been 12 years since that one, we were SUPER sad. 😢 Now, we hope to go back next year. That will again make it 12 years since that CC-less sailing.
It truly BITES!! Being as we don’t go to the shows, do character interactions, nor any non-pool activities, it was tough losing that day.

It happened to us on the Wish a few weeks ago and it was a real bummer. It also happened to our friends who were on RC at the same time. I never knew it was even a possibility until a few weeks before we cruised and I thought about pushing the trip back to summer when I found out, but we had everything planned including a few days at the parks. This was our first Disney cruise and we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, but I really wanted to go to CC.

It can happen at any time. It all depends on the wind speed and the currents. Even in the summer there's no guarantee.

Question for all those that missed CC over the past couple of months: is it true characters dont meet in their new cc outfits when the stop is cancelled (before all those meets would take olace on the ship in the cc outfits)

Sadly, I did not see the characters in their new CC outfits. They were in their ship outfits every time I walked by them. It would've been really cool to see them in those new ones, though!

Mickey and Minnie came out in their Castaway Cay outfits for our cruise. It was shortly after they made the announcement we wouldn't be able to dock. Minnie's line was aready cutoff, but we did get to take a pic with Mickey.

We were on the Wish and they cancelled CC. I was really looking forward to Serenity Bay. As an adult couple traveling on the Wish and the smaller adult area it probably is one of the main reasons i prefer Dream/Fantasy to that class. I might not have minded as much if i had the adult area to lounge in for the day... Just my thoughts.
