I'm having a bbq this weekend and I have some baby shrimp and dip to serve as an appetizer. The thing is, I haven't a clue how to serve the shrimp! Do I just pile them on a plate? I don't have a funky cocktail glass to wrap the shrimp around. Any ideas??? TIA! :)

Also, would you put out condiments in their jars (ie. mustard, ketchup) for burgers or would you spoon the condiments out into nicer bowls?

As for the shrimp, no ideas. Is this a "fancy" bbq or is pretty much just friends and family? If it is a bit fancier put the condiments in bowls, otherwise I think in the containers they come in would be just fine.

For the shrimp you can fill a nice bowl with ice and layer the shrimp on it. Put a bowl of the cocktail sauce in the center. Sounds yummy!

First , for the condiment , i personnaly always put them in other bowl. It is more festive ! ( and according to my now dead very proper grand-mother , the proper thing to do for all occasions , formal or not !)

For the shrimp cocktail , I would ( I did that a few weeks ago) just put everything , shrimp and sauce , in a big bowl , mix and serve with toothpicks on the side and have the bowl out when you serve refreshment before the meal. Do it a bit ahead of time so the shrimp marinate . One added advantage , no double dipping !If you use prepared coktail sauce , make sure to jazz it up with lime or lemon juice , few drops of tabasco and maybe fresh cilantro !

Have fun !

i have a glass chip and dip. i put some crushed ice in the chip part and put the shrimp on top. then i put the cocktail sauce in the dip part. garnish with lemon.

This is how I would do it, & put a very small dish next to it for the tails to be discarded, Also, lemon wedges make a nice accompaniment.

As for the condiments, if just casual - family/close friends, dont spoon into dishes, if people you dont know as well/more formal, you may want to spoon out! have fun

too funny caitycaity, guess our minds were on the lemons :rotfl2:

Not everyone likes sauce on their shrimp. I would leave it seperated.

I agree !
Two bowls then ! One with and one without !

Oh , you could put a little tequilla in the sauce as well if it is an adult party !!! It is very good, but do make a very small batch at first to taste it to make sure you like it !

I like to marinate the shrimp in fresh lime juice for about 2-3 hours before serving, then I also to the chip and dip set up thing, garnish with lemons... I want shrimp now!

This is the recepir for , to my taste , the very best Srhimp cocktail. It is supposed to be a real mexican recipe. And yess , it is really orange soda...people will never guess what is the secret ingrdient that give it the special taste ! Habanero are very hot , so dont put all of it in the sauce . You can go with Jalapeno insted , another taste. The recipe dont say salt and peper , but you need to put some in it( freshly grinded preferably). I translated it from french with Bable Fish , so that is why some sentence sound strange. Trey it , you wont regret it !

people are coming......I make spinach leaves on little plates with a dollop of cocktail sauce in the middle and then six or eight shrimp around the greens...makes it nice and then each person has the same amount too

Hmmm, you're all wonderful, thank you!!! People will be impressed with how sophisticated I am!!!! :teeth:

Did you buy the shrimp yet? I bought some shrimp at Sam's Club the other day and it came (frozen) all ready to go in a nice tray with cocktail sauce in the middle. I just let it thaw, took the cover off and served it in the tray. My grocery store has a similar set-up, but it's more expensive than Sam's. It was very good shrimp too.

First thing would be to find out what cocktails the shrimp like
