When is Hook's Pointe closing for the remodel? We will be visiting mid October.
The menu sounds good. How is this restaurant?

im sorry but it's not a remodel.. its closed forever! yep.. they will be tearing it down and it closed 2 weeks ago

And a new retro Tahitian-inspired restaurant is going in its place. In fact, when was that supposed to open again? Does anyone remember? Is it next year or will it be open by the end of this year?

Not soon enough, Sherry!
That's what I say anyway.

I agree, Linda! I know what you mean. I think a new restaurant on DLR property - especially one that is exclusively Disney (unlike Rainforest Cafe, etc.) - would be wonderful. And I love the idea of the Tahitian theme. Heck, I keep holding out hope that the poor little abandoned space that used to be Yamabuki in the PPH will take on a new life and become a functioning restaurant again (different theme, I guess, but some kind of restaurant). I think DLR needs another dining option badly. I think the PPH needs to have another restaurant badly.

so wait yambuki or what ever you spell it is just sitting there collection dust??

hmmm ..yeh i kinda can't wait to see the new restaraunt

While I'm not sad to see Croc's go(I did not like the food there), I am sorry to have missed Hook's Pointe. I often said I would eat there "next time" but never did. I heard they had some tasty dishes. I hope they have that new restaurant up soon. Tahitian themed? Sounds interesting!

I didn't realize that Crocs bits and bites is closed. Is there any place to eat at the disneyland hotel other than Goofy's Kitchen? I know the food at Crocs was only okay, but it was a great place to grab a quick bite.

Oh, another quick question is the bar still open?

I think so, Funball! Yamabuki closed early last year, if I recall correctly. It had some diehard fans, and it offered some variety in dining options at DLR, but in general, I tend to think that a lot of folks didn't know about it. Because the PPH is across the street, I think people forget about PCH Grill too, except for when it's time to meet Mickey in the morning. PPH is sort of on its own little island, and often times I would bet that people don't want to make the trek across the street to eat there. I would think that Surf's Up with Mickey is drawing more attention to the PPH in general. So they need to have another restaurant there.

As far as I know - unless something has been put in Yamabuki's place that I've forgotten about, that space is just sitting there collecting dust. I keep asking, how hard can it be to get a new restaurant in there? It's been over a year since Yamabuki closed! What is that space being used for?

Yes, retro-Tahitian themed and sort of tropical. It is supposed to be vaguely reminiscent of the old Tahitian Terrace restaurant in DL.

When I heard of this restaurant I thought that it would be a great fit in the DLH, with the waterfalls and koi ponds - it would all kind of add to the tropical feel of the DLH a bit more.

But, unless plans have changed, at some point in the near future those waterfalls and koi fish are being removed because the pool has to be remodeled and moved, and there won't be quite enough room for the waterfalls and koi fish (at least, that was basically the way it was explained in the Disney Parks Blog). I really hate to see the waterfalls and koi fish leave - they have been a highlight of the DLH for so long, and they really would have been a nice complement to the Tahitian theme, I think.

I think Disney is a tad bit confused at which direction it wants to take with the DLH. Sometimes it wants the DLH to be tropical. Sometimes it wants it to be retro. Sometimes it wants it to be modern. Sometimes it wants to be very Mickey-centric. The names of the 3 buildings have been changed before and are changing again to reflect different lands in DL. DLH has lost sooooo much good stuff over the years - I mean, good restaurants, good shops, the pedal boats, etc. And DLH keeps taking the biggest hit when changes are made at the hotels.

Steakhouse 55 is still open. And eventually we will get the Tahitian place.

Oh my goodness! They're going to remove Horseshoe falls and koi ponds?!? What??? It won't be DLH anymore! :( DH will be saddened by this. When he was growing up, he used to hide down there from his parents each year that they stayed there. They never figured out his hiding place.
I agree that they would have gone quite nicely with the Tahitian theme. The Tahitian theme doesn't seem to go really well with the renovations they are doing to the DLH.
