My SIL does not speak to anyone in the family so shopping for my DN10 is a challenge.

She mentioned via BIL via MIL that she is into Hannah Montanna and American Girl, ok sounds right (although I have 2 boys so what do I know)

ANd also gift cards to Abercrombie and Hollister, she is very petite gymanastic kind of girl or at least she was a year ago when we got to see her, so I am not sure she could have sprout up I guess:confused3 but do they carry sizes that are small enough for her.

I have been shopping at Justice and LII for her.

I guess I just associate A&F and Hollister with the teen or even 7 & 8th grade crowd. Am I wrong?

I have a 10 year old girl and I don't shop at A&F and Hollister for her. I find that older teen. I have a 13 year old (boy) and he doesn't like A&F or Hollister.

My 10 year old still likes Justice, but not LTD2 that much anymore.

However, I do buy my daughter some things from Aeropostale.

I would no way buy A&F /Hollister for my daughter. Its too old for her.

Go with Abercrombie. They have a store dedicated to the "tweens" set. It is called "Abercrombie" versus "Abercrombie and Fitch". It's for sizes 8-16 I believe.

Hollister sizes might be a bit to big for her. I know my DD could not fit into them until she was 12 or 13 and she's pretty small.

Hollister and A&F sizes run very small. I have no doubt a 10yo would find something to fit.

As an example, my DD13 is 5'1" 92 lbs and wears medium. She was never small enough for thier XXS or XS.

I'd say if you have a Aeropostle go with that.
Once they start with the A & F and Hollister your wallet goes empty. :faint:

I think the OP isn't talking about fit per se, but more the appropriateness of the clothing itself.

Yes, A&F and Hollister has clothes that fit my daughter, but do I want her wearing it?

Well....my 11yodd shops at L2. She won't shop at Justice.

My girls are not into A&F/Hollister/American Eagle stuff.

Well my oldest was into Hollister but it is sooooo expensive and we shop the smaller stores now and get better bargains.

My guess is that maybe they have stuff there she wants.:thumbsup2

I think you can find lots of things that are appropriate.

Sure, they have some short skirts and skimpy tops, but they also have great T-shirts and long-sleeved T-shirts right now (my DD just bought one). They also have winter jackets, nice sweaters, hoodies, etc.

A & F also has a kids store called "abercrombie". In our mall it is located opposite the A & F store. Maybe your sister-in-law was referring to abercrombie. Not sure if they have their own gift card or if they are the same gift card as A & F.

You can use the A&F card at Abercrombie.

Thanks everyone I was asking about size and also just the age level of the clothes. I have only been in both a handful of times for an older girl (I think she was a JR in HS when I started going in there) I just asked my neighbor whos daughter is 12 and she did not think Hollister would work but she too mentioned the A&F for the younger girls, but we dont have one near us.

Its not only the skimpiness/non skimpiness of the clothes, but also the mindset, if that makes sense. Look at the store its definetely for the older market. The dark walls, club music, exclusivity look with the darker louver fixtures, pictures of shirtless men market the older teen.

My daughter (10) isn't interested in those stores and I'm ok with that. I know I can do Justice for about one more year and I'm hanging on to that year as much as I can. I don't want/need her to look any older if that makes sense. My daughter is on the petite and younger side of 10 so I want to keep her little just a bit longer, KWIM?

I do find cute stuff at Aeropostale sometimes, but even then she's only sort of interested in it. She still likes Justice.

A&F is marketed for the older teen/college age. I would say 8th grade and up type thing. My son is in 7th and has no desire to go in there and I'm ok with that as well. He likes American Eagle and Aero and thats fine with me. My wallet thanks him as well.

Funny--my 10 year thought LTD2 was too babyish. Maybe its just the ones around here... its too pink/lavender. She's over Miley Cyrus as well, so all the LTD2 here are Hannah Stores.

My 11 year old dd has been into Abercrombie for about a year. I have to admit, the jeans fit her better than the jeans I buy at Target or Khols. She's about 5 feet tall, 90 pounds, and narrow. I get a lot off of ebay! Most of the 6th grade girls are into these stores.

I'm seeing a huge difference in 5th/6th grade age. 10 seems to still like LTD2/Justice and 11 is into the Hollister/AE/A&F stores.

That would makes sense. 11 year olds are in 6th grade and no middle schooler wants to be caught dead in "babyish" LTD2/Justice after 5th grade.

I'd say if you have a Aeropostle go with that.

Another vote for Aeropostle!!! My DD11 loves their clothes. She fits into their size 1 and S t-shirts and hoodies.

OP - My dd is 11 and she is a gymnast, very petite (about 62# and about 50" tall), I just bought her a size S sweatshirt from Hollister and a shirt (not t-shirt) - size XS. She does wear the XS t-shirt too though.

As for appropriateness - it is to his/her own opinion. If this is what the girl likes per your MIL/BIL/SIL then give her what she likes.

My dd is a very casual person and she likes the stuff in Hollister and also Aeropostale. Hollister has that beachy feel to it. I am finding more and more that at Justice and Limited Too that everything has bling on it, nothing is plain. A tween at the age of 11 might like more of the plain rather than the bling that the 5/6 yr old crowd likes - at least this is the case with my dd. it also seems that every shirt/sweater at Justice and Limited Too is the baby doll cut. You can only own some many of that style and then they only have 1 or 2 without rhinestones.

For my dd, I do buy the plain jeans (no bling) at Limited Too or Justice because even though she is 11, she just started wearing a size 8 slim and the Hollister's and Aero's of the world just won't fit her.

Good luck and remember you can buy from Hollister and not look like a hooch.

That wasnt my concern, her looking like a hootch, that is her parents' problem more sizing and I just got done buying for DH's goddaughter and we did the Limited, then onto American Eagle and Aeropsotale THEN onto A&F and Hollister. I started Hollister when this girl was in HS, so I felt we almost skipped a step in the natural progression of clothes KWIM.

Oh well I have no idea what we are doing that is up to DH bc I am sick of the drama this all creates every year. Maybe I should call and leave a message and request gift cards for my kids since they cant bother to find out what size my kids are and always send clothes too small, with no gift receipt and from the outlets.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback!:santa:

You can always go the route of a mall GC, then she can buy whatever from whatever.

Thanks I appreciate you trying to help but I have no idea what mall they shop at, they live about 1 1/2 hours away. I know they do a lot of outlet shopping bc they are near a major one. Plus as a principle thing I refuse to pay fees on gift cards and most malls I know charge one.

Like I said I think I will provided DH with all the info you all provided me, He was kind of taken aback by Hollister as well bc of our experienceing getting his Goddaughter stuff from there. He has had to go in there to get gift cards for her so when I mentioned DN wanted clothes from there he was like:scared1: Maybe we will go the A&F route:confused3

I have also written down the latest Hannah book and DVD and the latest AG book series. I will have one of us pick these up for her with gift receipts in case she already gets them.
