I just got back from a staycation at the Hilton Anaheim. I Live in Socal and have never stayed at a hotel since I live about 45min from Disneyland. However I was checking hotels on Hotwire.com and found a nicely rated hotel for $63 ($80 after tax) and took a chance. I got the Hilton and now I will be doing these staycations when I can because I had a wonderful stay! AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THIS IS THE BEST OFFSITE HOTEL FOR DISNEYLAND!!

The hotel was a 15 minute walk to Disneyland gate (or 10 minute walk to toy story parking for the shuttle to Disneyland) which was nice. I also looked at the hotels right across from Disneyland and they looked cheap (motels) compared to the Hilton. I also looked at the Marriott that was right next to the Hilton (both right by the Anaheim convention center) and did not like it as much as the Hilton. The place reminded me of Disney's Contemporary hotel. It has a nice large lobby (compared to other hotels in the area) with food court and shops with Disney merchendise. They let me do a free late checkout at 1pm (regular checkout is 12pm which is also great). On a side note the self parking fee was $21 for the night (includes check-in and checkout date until midnight)

For those of you trying to figure out where to stay offsite, I would choose the Hilton over the other hotels including the more expensive hotels (including the ones right across from Disneyland) other then the actual Disney hotels of course.

I agree. Hilton Anaheim is our go to when we don't stay on site. The only issue i find with Hilton is that rooms go very quickly when there is a convention going on. I don't mind the crowds in the hotel, but sometimes it is hard to get a room.

I stayed there for a visit on Thanksgiving weekend in 2012 as well as the next summer. There was no major convention going on, so the rate was $99/night. That summer I got a $59/night rate with their friends and family promotion. If there's a large convention in town then.

I would note that the parking spaces are very narrow, so perhaps consider parking higher up or on the roof of the garage to space out since that's almost empty unless the hotel is full. One night we got back in early and watched the Disneyland fireworks from the roof of the garage.

At one time it was the largest hotel in California by number of rooms. The place is massive and there can be a fair bit of walking to a room. However, it's still a Hilton and feels like one in terms of quality and amenities. It's a business hotel though, but not even the business hotels in Anaheim can avoid being associated with Disneyland and having lots of Disneyland visitors - especially on off-peak convention times. They have a swimming pool

I've seen some interesting things. That 2012 visit, the Hilton Anaheim was the official hotel for a college basketball tournament going on at the Anaheim Convention Center arena. I wasn't even aware of it, but it included Cal (Go Bears!) and Rice (whose head coach was the former Cal head coach). There were players staying on our floor and it was a bit nasty when they left their sweat-stained jerseys in the corridor to be picked up for laundering. I was even thinking of going, but I ended up watching the tournament on my phone while watching World of Color. However, my phone battery ran out and I didn't catch the end. One the way back I saw Cal's head coach in the lounge and asked what the final score was. The other time it was another off peak time and there was some sort of international roller hockey tournament going on. We got upgraded to the lanai floor, and some of the guests staying on the floor were drying out their uniforms on the chairs.

Their main issue is their rates are extremely volatile and go way up when there's a major convention. Companies are willing to pay $299/night, especially since that's a business expense. During their off-peak periods they can be cheaper than motels.

That was also one site of the infamous IRS conference where it was discovered that they stayed in several suites. However, the Hilton apparently charged a flat $135/night (the per diem limit) including the suites.

The Deputy Commissioner, SB/SE Division, stayed five nights in a two-bedroom Presidential Suite at the Hilton. The IRS paid the standard per diem rate of $135 per night for the room, which would have normally cost guests $1,499 per night during a four night stay. Figure 3 shows a Presidential Suite at the Hilton hotel.
