What do people think of those 'smart room' Mickey Mouse eared things that they've put in every room?

I was watching a Grand Floridian review and the guy said he promptly unplugged it and shoved it in a drawer. Bit overkill no?

Yes overkill.

Stayed at CR a few weeks ago.
It was there but I never even walked over to it.
I don't need/want to use it.

I think it could be fun if you have kids.
I also see how it could becoming annoying if you have kids lol.

I definitely unplug it as soon as I check in, but I don't do violence against it.

I just didn't pay it any thought to be honest. I didn't even notice it until a couple days into the stay.

People just concerned Uncle Bob is listening to you?

The first thing I do is unplug it. If I could go Office Space on it I would.

We also unplug it, but then plug it back I if we need additional towels or anything. It's very efficient when you need something brought to the room.

This would be a good poll, but I am guessing most people unplug it. Unnecessary and obtrusive. I unplug and move it. On another room annoyance, I wish they would move the phones from by the bed to a better location The night stand space is so
limited -- I put the phone on the floor. In this day and age, I don't think there is day to day use of a room phone.

Amazon had to pay out something like $30 million in fines over privacy violations with Alexa and Ring devices. IIRC the main issue with Alexa specifically was them illegally retaining child voice data to train and refine their algorithm, which was a violation of COPPA. The FTC banned them from doing it anymore but personally Amazon has shown so much flagrant disregard for consumer privacy with these devices that I just don’t trust them. It’s not crazy or paranoid when this is their track record. And I trust Disney IT’s competence even less.

I got laughed at for it on the Poly thread when Hey Disney beta testing was first rolled out there. I’ve since learned that people who love these things and find them harmless will not be convinced otherwise (my sister is one of them). Which is fine, that’s their right. But as someone in IT who deals with cybersecurity professionals daily as part of my job, you will never catch me with an Alexa-enabled device in my house, and I have no desire for them on vacation. I have zero issues just using the phone to call housekeeping and if I want weather or park hours it takes 2 seconds to check it on my phone or the tv.

If I were to unplug it, it would be because my youngest DS drives me nuts with those things and if I hear “hey Disney” (or “Alexa” at home) one more time I’d go nuts lol. But they do keep him occupied for a while

We use it to play music and to order more supplies, if needed. Otherwise, we keep it on mute.

Is this new? Haven't heard of it, but haven't been onsite for over a year. I refuse to have Alexa, so it is not something I would use.
