Have you used Cutter's Backyard bug control?

We're having a big outside birthday party for about 5 hours tomorrow afternoon and DH bought this stuff to use. You hook it to your water hose and spray. Of course I'm worried about my lungs but will have the windows shut on that side of the house while he applies it. He wants to spray this afternoon.

I really just wanted something that would take care of mosquitoes for a few hours but for weeks on end........that seems quite potent! I would even just put bug spray on for those few hours!

Thoughts?

My son used something similar to handle fleas in his yard. It worked. At least for a while!

I looked up what it uses, which is Lambda-Cyhalothrin, which is a synthetic pyrethroid. These are pretty common and relatively safe pesticides for humans. They're neurotoxins for insects and other bugs, but don't really affect the human nervous system much. I've been on a plane when there was a requirement to spray some bug spray into the cabin before landing. The only thing mentioned was that it was "approved by the World Health Organization", but I think it was some kind of synthetic pyrethrin.

I believe that it's pretty safe as long as it used consistent with its labeling. The biggest problem is that it could any bees that wander into the application area. There are warnings about side effects with excessive human exposure.

When I go camping I use Sawyer’s (available at Walmart’s, Cabela’s) Permethrin spray on soft furnishings such as chairs and tents; works like a charm but has a horrible smell. Fine if you use it a good 30 minutes in advance at which point the smell dissipates. Not sure if it works on grass, the air, etc but read the label and it’ll say. Check the product that @ bcla mentioned as it’s chemical formulation sounds right.

Mosquito dunks work and don’t harm beneficial insects. Mosquitos are a more wide/neighborhood issue. The only way to control their populations in an area is to reduce the amount of stagnant water where they lay their eggs. Plastic objects in our yards tend to collect water and provide great places for mosquitoes to breed. Dump these things out after a rain and check for places water may tend to pool.

Permethrin is pretty common. It's in a lot of bug sprays including common ant and roach killer from Raid or Black Flag. I saw it listed on a bunch of different home foggers and even flea sprays (with insect growth regulators). I suspect it was in the stuff sprayed into an airliner cabin. And the wackiest would be clothing that's treated with it, and where it supposedly can last up to 25-50 washings. There are treatments with it, but also clothes that are sold pretreated. So at the very least it's considered reasonably safe to be wearing clothes where the wearer will be exposed to it.
