Have you ever decided on taking a vacation

Yes. In fact, my hubby came home from work on a Thursday one time and we booked a cruise (that night) departing Sunday morning.

dam, I thought you were to stately to be that cool ( I say that cause of all the deep quality of song you post on song threads)

We booked a Bahamas resort vacation on Wednesday, departed the following Thursday, just got back and it was AWESOME!!
Just got back this past Monday. Once booked a cruise a week out. They have to have manifest 48 hours in advance. Gone are the days of impromptu cruising!

Yeah. The last time was earlier this year. It was January and we were setting one record low after another, the schools were closed because of windchills, and I got an email from one of the discount airlines offering $29 fares to Florida. That was a Friday. We were sitting canalside, watching manatees from the dock behind our AirBnB rental on Sunday.

Not exactly true. You can make reservations for a cruise on most major cruise lines up until the morning of the cruise. But, if it's within 3 days of a cruise, you have to call, you can't do it online.

The passenger list is due onboard 90 minutes ahead of the cruise.

Yep. Once a friend said "Let's go to the new casino in Biloxi, MS" so we left that night for the weekend. Another time I heard the Rod Run was happening in Pigeon Forge, TN and I left the next day for the weekend.

Not a full blown vacation. But after a particularly rough fall last year I decided on Thursday evening to go out of town over the weekend. Left Saturday morning came home Sunday night.

I’ve done it many times, but usually just road trips and/or camping. I did one trip to NYC with friends after seeing an ad on a TV in a bar for the Fourth of July celebration. We bought tickets that night and flew up the next morning. It was a great trip.

I hope to do that when I retire. Can't do it now if I want my wife to go since her vacation requests have to be in a year in advance.

Once drove to key west for fantasy fest on a whim. Buddy asked me for a ride. Stayed for 3 days sleeping in my car, on a lounge chair, and on the beach.

Can't do stuff like that anymore.

Never a day or two out, but we booked a Disney trip one week out because it was cold in NY and once DH uttered the words, “We should go...” it was booked. :D

I just can’t. I enjoy the planning part and making a packing list. The one time we took off on a whim I felt out of sorts and we forgot some stuff. Not the end of the world but not as relaxing of a vacation.

There's no place "vacation-worthy" within driving distance of our home so we have to fly. Flights are ridiculously expensive on a last-minute basis. While our jobs are (sort of) flexible enough that we could make it work, I've just never found anything feasible, price-wise. I actually check pretty often because there are quite a few of those "take this job and shove it" moments where I really, really feel the need to get away. :beach:

When I was with my ex, so like 18 years ago, he decided at the spur of the moment to go visit his best friend and for me to go along to meet him. It was a two hour greyhound ride and it was fine. We stayed for 3 days and then came home.

Turns out you don’t have to go to Disney to come home with a souvenir. :rolleyes1
