I just applied for this job which would be at our local walmart. Has anyone done this before and what did you think of it?

I worked at Hallmark for a few months in college. It was a nice work environment but it's retail. I'd take Hallmark over WalMart any day.

Hallmark has a nice vibe and lots of their employees are "lifers." The worst part was smelling all the candles - too many scents in one place! :scared:

I think the poster means that they would be working for Hallmark merchandising hallmark products in Walmart stores.

I did this years ago with American Greeting and worked in at the PX on post at Seneca Army Depot. It wasn't a lot of work, nor a lot of money. The work was light, because we were in the process of shutting down the facility. It wasn't to hard and it got me out of the house. I would have done it again, but never got the opportunity.

My mom worked for American Greetings for years as a merchandiser, and through her my sister and I have also done it. Some Walmart stores have Hallmark cards and some have AG, so I do know a little bit about working specifically at a Walmart.

In general, it is a very part-time job. I will say that if you merchandise a Walmart, you will have more hours than if you are doing a smaller account. AND, Walmart can be very demanding. They will want their Christmas cards pulled down on 12/26. I've known other merchandisers who had to report to the store late on Christmas night, or very early 12/26, to take down the Christmas cards. The same will go for the day after Valentine's Day, day after Mother's Day, etc. The department will have to be worked every single day for a couple of hours every day leading up to a major holiday. The good part about it is that you are usually on your own schedule - you can work at your convenience MOST of the time (excepting the time around major holidays). My sister now works for CVS exclusively to merchandise their AG cards at several different stores and as long as she is there between Mon-Wed, it doesn't matter which day or what time of day. It's not a major money-maker - they pay somewhere around $10/hr, but you might only get 5-10 hours per week. It's a great, flexible job if you just need a little cash flow, but you're on your feet a lot, have some heavy lifting (those card boxes can be quite heavy) and have to put up with all the shoppers asking you where things are.
