12/5 Enjoying Some New Experiences & Treats at Magic Kingdom
Before I start detailing our day, I want to share our experience with the new LLMP and LLSP. Since
Genie+ debuted, we typically purchased it every time we went to Magic Kingdom and had great success riding everything we wanted to ride. This time, even though we expected light crowds due it being a party day, I intended to purchase it so that we could ride Tiana for the first time without worrying about grabbing a VQ. Well, as passholders who were staying off site, we were at the bottom of the pecking order for the new system. We could only book three days in advance for one day, not the length of our trip. Feeling hopeful I logged in right at 7 am three days in advance of this day only to find Tiana’s wasn’t available, nor was Tron or Seven Dwarfs as LLSP. Also, every other ride we intended to ride was only available in the afternoon. With the park closing at 6:00, there was little hope of us getting any more than the original three selected rides. To us, it just wasn’t worth the cost of $58 when we come as often as we do so we decided to resign ourselves to taking our chances with shorter party day ride lines and the VQ for Tiana. This experience though affected our plans for our 2025 spring trip. We originally planned to stay off-site for the entire trip. However, when our sons join us for the last week of our trip, we want to be able to better utilize LLMP and LLSP, especially on our Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios days. So, it looks like we’ll be staying at the Swan for the end of our next trip (which we love by the way).
Back to our day: Right at 7 am on the morning of the 5th, I logged in to get a VQ. I had a little trouble getting the screen to refresh at 7 but ended up with Group 22, not too bad.
After parking at the TTC and taking the ferry we arrived right as the park opened. I decided to use the Lines app from Touring Plans to help us make the best choices for our day. Based on their projections, we made our way to the haunted mansion and we were so happy to see the wait time….
We’re off to a great start!
Next we headed to ride pirates which was a walk on as well. Then, the Lines app predicted a 4 minute wait on Tron so we headed there. I didn’t take notes on the actual wait but I think it was pretty accurate. I really enjoy Tron but wish it was a bit longer ride. As I exited the ride, our VQ for Tiana was called so we made our way back to Frontierland.
There was no line as we made our way through the queue. We stopped a couple times just to enjoy some of the displays such as Tiana’s kitchen but it was actually a walk on.
We weren’t sure if we were going to like this replacement for Splash Mountain but we felt it was very well done. The animatronics were great and the music was fun. I’m not really sure why we were in a salt mine looking for someone to play music at a festival but it’s a fun ride nonetheless.
I really like this guy...
After all the back and forth we had already done, we decided to take the train to Fantasyland.
We discovered a hidden Mickey on our way to the Little Mermaid.
We rode Little Mermaid with no wait and then it was time for a snack. We stopped by Gaston’s Tavern and resisted the temptation to get a cinnamon roll, since we were eager to try a new snack. We ordered a Creme Brulee Croissant to share.
Here is the inside view.
I actually liked this better than DH. He must have gotten the darker half as he said his had a burnt aftertaste. I didn’t taste that with my half. We both liked the cream filling which reminded us of schoolbread. Overall it was a tasty treat but not at the top of our list. We gave it a B. One thing we noticed as we saw other people eating the cinnamon roll is that they looked much smaller and looked like they had only a skinny drizzle of the icing as opposed to the thick icing we’ve gotten in the past. Hopefully it was just a bad batch. Perhaps we will have to investigate that on our next trip, for scientific purposes.
After our treat, we rode Small World with about a 10 minute wait. After we exited Small World, I placed a mobile order for lunch at Pecos Bills. Other than the Keys to the Kingdom tour in 2022, we haven’t eaten here since 2006 I believe. We were excited to try some of the new menu items.
We ordered the Southwest Caesar Salad (Romaine tossed in Creamy Salsa Verde Dressing, Pepitas, Queso Fresco, Pico de Gallo, and Tortilla Strips) and added Chicken:
This salad was very good. It wasn’t overly dressed and the chicken was nicely seasoned. This salad was a huge upgrade from the tacos we had back in 2022. It was also very shareable. We gave it an A-.
We also shared the Grilled Masa Flatbread: Grilled Corn Flatbread topped with Sweet Potatoes, Stewed Pinto Beans, Plant-based Pepper Jack “Cheese,” Shredded Lettuce, Pico de Gallo, and Plant-based Lime Crema. We also added chicken to this dish.
This was excellent! The crust was well cooked. The whole dish was very flavorful with its tiny chunks of sweet potato, lime crema and toppings. We would definitely get this again! Pecos Bill has certainly upped its game.
After Pecos Bill, we stopped by Grizzly Bear Hall to see the updated Country Bear show. To be honest, I was afraid that they had ruined this attraction. However, both of us really enjoyed the new version. Afterwards we agreed that it actually was an improvement with the inclusion of the Disney songs. We also liked that the wall trophies were more involved in the show. We were very surprised and pleased with this updated attraction.
We then made our way back to Tomorrowland to experience the People Mover and Carousel of Progress, both of which had little to no wait.
Up next…time for another treat!
