Hello all. It's been quite a while since I've posted here on disboards.
Well I'm planning on trip to Disney in late November '09 (week after Thksgvng)
Anyway, we'd like to stay at the Grand Floridian and in particular a Dormer Room (I saw a diser's pics of these rooms and fell in love :lovestruc )
However, I don't know much about dormer rooms. Where are these rooms located at GF. Any particular buildings? In order to request a dormer room would I have to book a particular room, for e.g. a lagoon or tower lodge room? or would a regular garden view suffice?

Thanks so much for any information.

I'm not a GF expert, but I think that you can request dormer rooms for almost any category. Dormer rooms are on the top floor of each building.

We had an MK view. And we absolutely LOVED our dormer room. The high ceilings were beautiful. With the enclosed balcony, I wasn't as nervous about the kids being out watching monorails.

It's funny because we wanted one of two particular buildings, but were placed into a different building. When I mentioned I had hoped for a different building, the CM checked and offered the dormer room like it was a bad thing, "The only thing we have available is a dormer room." Well, we LOVED it. In fact, I will probably request a dormer room if ever given the opportunity to stay at GF again.

so what is a dormer room?

(please dont tell me to do a search that blue dog takes for ever to find any thing)

I know there are dormer room sin the sugar loaf buidling and they are onthe top floor but you cant book them. When you go to disney.com to book that room cat wont show up. I think you can request them though.

Prcoama I think the dormer rooms look real nice too...those high celings...the only thing is I believe that they have a closed in balcony...not sure if that makes a difference to you...changes the view if you like to sit out there...

The GF is such a beautiful resort...Have a great trip:)

I dormer room sits directly under the roofline. It has a smaller enlcosed
balcony . but inside has high vaulted ceilings giving it an airy, spacious feeling to it.

The balcony is smaller and enclosed. The railing is higher because of this. So, we didn't really sit on the balcony to look out. We would lean against the railing and look out.

The rooms don't have the benches at the foot of the beds. Also, the CM at the front desk said that there wasn't a day bed, but the couch did appear to pull out into a bed. not sure. We didn't use it. DH said it did.

Here are a few pictures (the room pics were taken at night without flash, so forgive the graininess):

And DS on the balcony watching the monorails--he was standing on the side table in order to see over (he LOVED this):

thank to all for information and thanks for the pic taken of the dormer room you stayed in fairestoneofall, very nice.

Boy do I feel like we missed the boat on our recent stay at GF for our wedding/honeymoon. Guess if I ever stay there again, I know what we are requesting:thumbsup2
