Good walking sandals for heavy women?

Sorry in advance if this has been asked a hundred times.

I'm not on the lighter side and Disney is always brutal on my feet. I've got a comfortable pair of Nike walking shoes but I know in August I'll be dealing with my shoes and feet getting wet. I often see flip-flops and sandals recommended here but I'm worried they won't have enough support for me.

Any larger ladies have a brand or specific shoe that they love/recommend for Disney?

I have never done well with sneakers on my Disney trips. My feet always were sweaty and I would get blisters. Our last WDW trip we went to Walmart and I got a pair of Birkenstock like sandals for maybe $15. BEST DECISION EVER!

I wear my brooks running shoes. If I'm going on a water ride, I put them in a ziploc in my backpack and put on flip-flops for that ride only, then change back.

I love my Keen Whispers. They provide good support & traction and are cool, lightweight and waterproof. I bought my first two pairs at REI but now that I know my size I'll order them from Amazon (lots of color selections and better price).

Keens and the new Birkenstocks that are meant to get wet. I wouldn't buy off brand as they don't offer the same memory foam support. I also wear flip flops since it's what I am used to. I'm on the heavier aide as well :)

The Keens are so cute! Do either of you find an issue with rubbing and blisters? I'm worried because of the two times I thought Crocs sandals were a good idea and my poor feet were blistered from the rubbing.

I love my Keens, and I haven't had any trouble with rubbing or blisters. I've used the same pair for a week at Disney and a week in NYC, plus I wear them all the time at home.

I've found Skechers is the best for me. I'm not small either and I don't know if my shin splints were from being heavy or not having the best shoes for me.

I wear these with no socks and they get wet and dry nicely. Its like a much more comfortable of a water shoe to me.

also have these if I'm not going to get wet

And I have these flip flops.

All of them are amazing and after a full day at Disney (rope drop to kiss goodnight) I have no pains or soreness.

I also love my Keen Whispers for WDW. I didn't break them in enough on my first trip in them, so I did get a blister on my right pinky toe. They were totally broken in by my last trip and worked great! I also bought a pair of Keen Rose that worked great, my Clarks sandals for non-water ride days and also a pair of Jambus (which did give me blisters but it was my own fault for not breaking them in again after I put insoles in them). Yes, 4 pairs of shoes is a lot, but I was SO grateful to change shoes every afternoon - it was like getting new legs!

How much breaking in did you do before the first trip when you got the blister? I'm worried I'll make the same mistake. I don't work so I'm not on my feet much. I'm hoping I can walk every day and get them worn in in time for the trip. I'm leaving for Disney on 8/22!

I have Whispers too. I do break them and any other new shoes in before I go to WDW. Sometimes I even wear short socks. Or put Slide on feet to prevent friction.

I do really well with Skechers Go Walk flip flops. Very cushy and I can wear them for long walks without any pain.

I second the Teva's and Skecher Go Walks. they have saved me at Disney. Also a big girl and my first couple of trips I was in tears every night, then the next trip I got some Teva's and a pair of Go Walks and it makes all the difference.

Here is the style of Teva's that I have: https://www.amazon.com/Teva-Womens-...r=1-2&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=teva+sandals

On the Go Walks, I wear them without socks when I first get them, then if they start to stretch out a little I wear no-show socks with them so my feet don't slide around.

What I've found works best for me is to bring several different pairs of shoes/sandals and swap them out every day. For summer I have a couple of pair of Sketchers and Tevas. I prefer them because they can get wet. I also use Body Glide on the bottoms of my feet, between my toes and on my heels. Since I started doing that I haven't had any issues with my feet bothering me at all.

I bought mine months before we left, but only wore them in the house for a few hours every weekend. Wearing them daily will help, but Body Glide or the Gold Bond anti-chafe couldn't hurt. And bring moleskin for just in case! I pre-cut mine and had it in my wallet on the last trip, so even when my Jambus blistered me, I could ease my suffering right at MK. (Though if I'd remembered they were in my wallet sooner, I could have avoided them entirely!)
