Can any of the other moms help?

I got DD(2.5) three disney princess dresses for Christmas and she LOVES them. The problem is that they are shedding glitter all over my couches, rugs, floor, etc. Is there anything I can do to reduce this? I have a 7 month old who is starting to crawl and is cruising on the couch and toys and I worry she will get it in her eyes. I don't want to take them away from my DD bc she loves them and looks adorable in them.

I've got boys so I have zero experience with princesses, dresses, or princess dresses, but just tossing this out there: Can you spray them lightly with hair spray or something? Would that make the glitter "stick"? Or would it make the dresses stiff as a board?!

Good luck!

I don't know if that would work of not I'm open to suggestions but it is really bad.

Either the hairspray or some kind of crafting spray glue adhesive perhaps. Hope that works for you.

Hi Lillycat - we are having the same problem - glitter everywhere with a 9-month old baby wearing glitter in his hair - My husband did get it in his eye and it was very irritating.

We are in the same boat - our 3 year-old daughter wears her, as she calls them "dancers", from morning to night and she just loves them - She twirls all over the house. We were just wondering how Disney can sell these dresses as the glitter seems a little bit hazardous. My brother was visiting over Christmas and he left with glitter all over his brand-new ski jacket.

We purchased the pale-green Arial dress in WDW. She also has 2 new Cinderella dresses purchased at the disney store in our area. We truly understand your dilemma.

Maybe I will send them and e-mail to ask for a solution.

I'll let you know...

Get a can of fabric finishing spray from a fabric/craft store. This stuff is used to keep paints from coming off in the wash, and if you use it pretty heavily, it should cement down glitter fairly well, too. Be sure to let it dry very thoroughly before wearing again.

Be careful NOT to get the kind that stiffens the fabric; that would be very uncomfortable.

Hairspray will help, or you can very lightly roll a lint roller over the dress to pick up the loosest of the glitter. Honestly the glitter shedding really didn't stop until I washed the dress. If you wash them on gentle, inside out the dress will still have sparkle but without leaving glitter every where your DD goes

May I be sentimental for a moment.........

My "baby girl" just had her 18th birthday yesterday and I would like to tell you all to relish the glitter all over the place from princess dresses problem! It will all be over in a flash even tho now it seems to go on forever. Sorry to be melancholy but right now I would love to have a day of glitter and princesses instead of college applications and face book! At least she still loves her high heels!!!

Enjoy the glitter it just tells everyone you are lucky enough to have a precious little girl.

PS. you'll be finding it for years, even after they are no longer wearing them! It is like roaches it can outlast a nuclear explosion.

I have no idea how to reduce the glitter shedding of those dresses! It doesnt really bother me, but I know it does get everywhere! We are still seeing glitter from Halloween!

I washed DD's Sleeping Beauty dress on the gentle cycle and then hung it to dry. It came out fine and greatly reduced the glitter problem.

Hehe, that's what I tell DH when he gets all cranky about the glitter. :lovestruc

Enjoy your young woman, I bet you're just about to embark on the nice woman-to-woman mother/daughter stage. :cloud9:

LOL I'm definitely not looking for her to grow up too fast- I wish she would slow down. Actually I don't mind the glitter in the house my only concern in addition to my 2.5 year princess in the glitter dresses, I have a 7 month old princess who is crawling and cruising on those same rugs/furniture. She has it on her hands, hair, face etc. I only worry it will get in her eye as yesterday I removed some from her lid.

I take my DD's dresses outside, shake/beat, and spray with water to get most of the glitter off. If it's still super glittery, then I wash it on cold, gentle in a laundry bag and hang to dry.

Most of the glitter will come off with just the beating outside.

I try to avoid buying the really glittery dresses-- some like Mulan, Tink, etc aren't very glittery. The Cinderella and Snow White dresses that we have just happened to non-glittery that year from the Disney Store. Also, it seems the spring princess dresses (around Easter) seem to be less glittery.
