General Star Wars Discussion

1. Mandalorian S2
2. Andor
3. Ahsoka
4. Mandalorian S1
5. Madalorian S3
6. The Acolyte
7. Obi Wan Kenobi
8. Book of Boba Fett

My 1,2, and 3 could probably interchange with one another....as could 6,7,8. But man those bottom 3 for me are really far removed from the top 5.

been a verrrrrry long and tedious week at work....so glad for this weekend, and Star Wars talk.
My #1 is Andor.....and then the rest....with a large gap in between. I loved many others, but Andor is so good, it's in or near my top 10 tv shows ever. That would be a fun list to make/discuss here too...
Anyway
1. Andor
2. Mandalorian S2
3. Ahsoka
4. Obi-Wan (although really it's tied with Ahsoka.
5. Mandalorian S1
this gets harder, as the next 3 are all pretty much tied
6. Mandalorian S3/Acolyte
8. Book of Boba Fett....he's still my second favorite character of all time, but this show was just a big .disappointment. I would love a season 2, with him being more like what we got in The Tragedy episode of Mandalorian. I still haven't rewatched, maybe that'll help.

and like others said, I know we're just doing live action, but the animated series are so good, it's hard not to include them. I'd probably Clone Wars as 2, Rebels 3, then Mando S2 at 4, then Bad Batch at 5, then the rest of the list. But they had so many more episodes for character development, hard to compare.

Oh, well, if we're counting animated series, then ALL of the live action stuff can shove over, because I think I'd put them all ahead - well, not Resistance, but it's still pretty underrated.

The Tragedy was such a good and badass episode and it was directed by Robert Rodriguez, which is why I have no idea why Book of Boba Fett was so BORING.

I'll argue Book of Boba Fett was flawed because it told the story out of order (similar problem Acolyte had but more understandable why they did a flashback) and because the Boba Fett in the show was different than the Boba Fett in The Tragedy episode. The motivation for Boba Fett in the show made no sense and was never congruent.

Not to mention forgetting occasionally that the show was supposed to be about Boba Fett.

Having watched all of them, I can say that I did enjoy all except Acolyte. I kept watching, hoping that something would happen that would make the characters interesting something I cared about. Didn't happen. Even at the end, I was like so what. A really good premise that just seemed to be wasted. Hope they don't do a Season 2.

Hope they don't do a Season 2.
I am curious... maybe it is just word choice that is jumping out at me and I am reading more into it.... but why do you hope they dont do another season? Does it matter to you if there is a Star Wars show that others watch and enjoy that you dont? Can't you just not watch? I ask because there are fans who would rather nothing than let others enjoy something they disagree with for whatever reason. I admit I would like to see the story continued.

I hope they don't put the money into a season 2. I would rather see them put that money into a different series that is done with better characters and writing. while I have enjoyed some of the Star Wars series more than others, I thought this was by far the weakest.

but it is not like this is the only show in production and that unless this show is cancelled there will not be any other show EVER.... there are several projects in the works, Skeleton Crew is the next original series coming up soon

What you say is true, but as a definite nerd for all things nerdy, I can tell you that I do sometimes feel that way, but it would be when that thing I dislike is somehow impigning on something I do or would like. In the case of The Acolyte, it is so far removed from anything else that it doesn't really affect anything else. I didn't mind the story, but I can say that if Sol had been Obi-Wan, we'd probably have a fight on our hands! 🤣 But, he was Sol, and that is who Sol is. So, that's no big deal. If it were something closer, where questionable creative choices were bleeding onto other things, I might really want that thing to be gone. It's like Star Trek. I kinda want to watch strange New Worlds, but I disliked Discovery so much that I worry about them being connected. Then there's my favorite whipping boys, the X-Men - they ruin everything they touch so I don't want them touching anything! Yeah, that's my selfish desire, but still, I get the impulse. Fortunately for me, Star Wars has never missed the mark too hard (though some people do feel that it has).

i hear that, and understand the sentiment of loving something.... but the reality is, no fan is any more entitled than another, none of us actually own the franchise....

Right, but that's still why one migh hope a show gets cancelled or at least heavily changed. I mean, the only solution is to just not watch it. I'm not leading some crusade to get Kurtzman and the current Star Trek people fired or anything, but if they day comes that they announce that it is happening and that all Trek developed under them is relegated to B-Canon, I can't say I'll be sad to see it.

Back in the day, I read every single Star Wars book that was released. (This was in the early 90s when there weren't many books being released!) I soon had to make a decision - which got priority, and which didn't. For over a decade, I only read books set after Return of the Jedi or that featured characters I was interested in (for example, the Darth Plagueis novel). I skipped entire series that I didn't care about. That continued after the Legends reboot, and now, with streaming content. I haven't watched Ahsoka because I'm not interested. I haven't watched Bad Batch because I don't care about clones. Do I wish they'd make stuff I'm more interested in? YES. (Beloved Rogue Squadron, I'm looking at you.) But I learned long ago that there's no need to consume every bit of Star Wars content. I think a lot of fans would be a lot happier if they didn't try!

ding ding ding we have a winner...

because otherwise it comes off as kinda petty.... since you don't like it, then no one else gets to watch it....

if enough people dont watch something then it tends to get cancelled anyways

That's true , there are many other projects coming up. BUT, if they put money into season 2, that's money that could have funded a different project.

i would have liked longer episodes for sure

Yeah, in the end, the uneven pacing was the biggest flaw. There are a few things that I feel jsut needed a bit more fleshing out. Wasting two entire episodes on the flashbacks was a bad call.
