Hi
i am looking at a dcl from gavelston
if I want to look at prices for airfare
which airport is closer to port ?
looking for airfare from air Canada and it shows quite a few airports from Texas
of course since we won’t rent a car I want the closest airport to the dcl port departure
we won’t rent a car so it has to be reasonable taxi / or Uber prices rate

also do you have a hotel near port to recommend ?
something to visit the day before cruise ?
hotels close to port ?
any recommendations for a newbie cruising from gavelston
thanks a lot
it would be a first for me to hop on a cruise from there

We flew from Bush and took an Uber to the port at Habour House.

Ubber was $70 I think , hour trip .

Habor House was very close to where you get on the ship we just walked down to it but they do have a shuttle there from hotel. Close to walkable food places and shops.

We took the DCL bus back to the airport.

DCL does do a pick up at the airport too, we fly in the before so didn’t know they also do a pickup at the airport day before to a hotel near by . Saw them at the luggage pick up with the hand signs the day before. Not sure price or where they take you.

Hotel is right on the water , across from the hotel is the town, terminal is maybe 5 min easy walk.

for sure I want to take tickets to the closest airport to dcl port departure

as far as hotelmfor a night or maybe two any recommandations ?
and maybe something to visit on the day prior to the cruise

thanks

Houston Hobby is the closest airport to Galveston. There are shuttle services that will take you to Galveston. I live halfway to Galveston from Hobby and there are time when the Uber to my house (20 minutes away). Is over $40.
Right now the Uber fare from Houston Hobby to the Tremont House in Galveston is $83-$95. Galveston is highly walkable once you get to the hotel.
The Tremont is a lovely hotel but not cheap. It is a very close walk to the cruise terminal.

No Hobby is the closest, but DCL doesn't provide transfers. If you're planning on private transportation that is your best bet. Bush is about an hour and a half, Hobby is about 45 minutes.

would Houston IAH be hobby airport ?
i see this in my air Canada airport offerings
insee departure from mtl Canada to that airport

Air Canada only flies into IAH which is north of downtown Houston. Look at United as well as IAH is a United hub.

I am actually just finishing an 11 night on Regal Princess out of Galveston. We stayed in Houston the night before (meeting relatives in the area) and used Galveston Shuttle and Limo to transport 14 of us to the terminal. They get a recommendation from me if you choose to go the private shuttle route.

Also depending on the flights there might be a long time before your flight leaves. We're going to Johnson Space Centre since our flight tomorrow leaves at 6:30pm.

Air Canada flies to IAH (George Bush Int'l Airport) from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. We just flew to/from IAH for a sailing in Galveston. We used Uber/Lyft (XL) to get to from IAH to our hotel in Galveston and DCL transportation back to the airport.

There are several suitable hotels in Galveston... but in the low season... I'd argue that this is a place where you spend one full day and you've seen and done most of what needs to be seen and done... two days would be fine, but would not stretch it much longer than that.

As for hotels... there are plenty. We stayed at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort, which has a shuttle to the port (very limited capacity). The room assigned was renovated and comfortable. We used Lyft to port... about a 10-15 minute ride and not too expensive.

Here are the airlines for Houston Hobby:

Looks like you would have 1-2 stops from Montreal.

Flights To IAH (George Bush Intercontinental) can be Non-stop. This is the major airport for Houston. Air Canada flights and their codeshare partner United fly here. This is a hub for United.

I’ll throw out my suggestion: if you think you will cruise from Galveston, book your hotel soon with a cancelable reservation. Then you can work out other details. Flights leave Montreal the morning and arrive 4 hours later, allowing you to get to Galveston before dark.

FYI, it's Galveston not Gavelston. I think it's important for people to know the names of the places they are going to.
Sorry about the spelling
no need to be rude I am sorry it’s offending you
it’s a brand new project ( this afternoon )
again there’s a way to tell a person she’s wrong

Would you stay in the annex or atrium of Tremont hotel? Which is better pros? Cons?
