Fort Wilderness Cabins Full Review (long)

Do the laundry machines use any sort of soap (ie. pods/powder/liquid)
We’ll bring some just in case their dispensers are empty.

Liquid or powder would be fine, they supply powder version in little boxes, we used liquid from the little DVC bottles we had from a previous stay at AKL.

I just called to reserve a 4 seater golf cart for our stay in July, and it was $75 per night. He said the 6 seater is $100. Yikes! But this is our first time staying at FW, and my dad (who has some mobility limitations) is staying with us. I figured the golf cart will be a must for him to get around, especially since he plans to hang around the resort and not go to the parks.

I hope laundry is free when we go. I'm not a DVC member, but we are staying in the DVC Cabins!

Personally I think having a golf cart dramatically enhances the Fort Wilderness experience, so that’s money well spent in my opinion.

Yes, the cabin laundry room is free for all cabin guests regardless of how you booked (DVC points or cash).

We had this in our cabin a few weeks ago. At first it wasn't on constantly, but we called maintenance a couple of days in because the HVAC unit was making a pretty loud rattling metal-on-metal type of sound. It took them an hour and several full unit power on/off switches, but finally got the sound fixed.

From then on I noticed the dehumidifier ran constantly the rest of the trip. It didn't bother us during the day, but at night I did find the noise a little bothersome, but was able to sleep through it. On the plus side, our towels were always nice and dry. On the downside, the weather was cool and air already dry - I would have loved to known the actual humidity in our unit because it certainly felt really low - like how cold, dry air makes your skin and nose feel after awhile.

FYI, I used the app chat feature to contact maintenance, it's pretty easy. You can also use the phone in your room to call, which puts you to a central call center (no matter what they say) but the information gets relayed to people at the Fort that can help.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread... but was the dehumidifer noise loud enough to hear from the main bedroom? I am sensitive to noise while sleeping (why I booked a cabin), but will switch resorts if the noise was bothersome from the other side of the cabin.

Hmm, I slept in the pull down bed in the living room so can't totally say for sure. I would say that generally speaking, yes, you'd probably still hear some level of the hum if you're listening for it. At least you can close the door and there's some separation. The balance of my family who slept in the bedroom thinks I'm crazy and wasn't bothered at all, but I'm a little like you and more bothered by noise if it's excessively loud.

I'd be curious what others who slept in the bedroom have to say on the topic.

If you're of normal or better than normal hearing - yes, you can hear it from the bedroom even with the door closed. It's a fairly constant white noise of sorts - so it may not bother some. From the living room, it's significantly louder...having the door closed helps. It did actually annoy me a bit, to the point I called maintenance and asked them to shut it down after the first night...they mentioned they had a few similar requests in the past, but not very commonly - maybe I'm just more sensitive. There's no external or visible switch to disable it...they were able to turn it off somewhere outside, probably either disconnecting a power source or shutting off a relay or breaker.
