Fly on Friday the 13th?? Yep, we`ll turn superstition into 23 nights of fun!! A Sept/Oct 2024 TR

You can see clearly where all the budget cuts are in the parks, folks who have never been before might not notice, but for long term guests some of it is as clear as the nose on your face.
So true. Even my mr who tends to be a big picture sort of guy took a look around at the merchandise in the stores and said: that’s it?
More of today coming right up!!!
Since we sadly had to skip seeing the parade as leaving early, I quickly scrolled thru this post…

Well, i couldn’t help but take some very quick sneak peeks…looks like a winner of a parade to me!

Think their Mardi Gras & xmas ones were interesting. The old version of daytime one was always a snooze for me for some reason.
hearing all sorts of rumours that in years to come they plan to bring back some of the classics in some way to the parks. I think there will be big changes in the future for both IOA and Studios 😊
Oh, from your lips…

They have such a vast heritage of IPs from which to choose, always thot it a huge waste to not feature their monsters. So happy that is going to be rectified soon

I’m saddened to share that Carole’s Brother (in-law) unexpectedly passed away yesterday.

She wanted all to know she will be taking some time away from the boards. Prayers to her and the family as they grieve this immense loss.

She hopes to be back posting here within a few weeks.

Carol, my sincerest condolences on the passing of your brother-in-law. I hope the memories you share help you through this horrible time. Heartbreaking.

Thank you Janet, one of those things that`s hard to write down so soon after the passing of a loved one.

So sorry for your loss, Carole and Tom. Praying for peace and comfort for the whole family.

Thank you ladies, it was such a shock, very unexpected passing for the whole family to come to terms with. We do have a lot of happy memories which are nice to have for sure.

The cremation isn`t till November 27th so we`ll all be going back up for that, he was more a brother than brother in law and had been in our family since I was around 8 or 9, so he will be very much missed.

Yes, merchandise has been quite poor for the last few years overall, we barely give it a glance most of the time now apart from the odd mug or shirt we picked up.

I think you`d enjoy the parade too, we did, short and sweet.

Yes, I hope what we have been hearing is in the plans for the future come into fruition, those classic movie monsters need to be celebrated.

The drive home was uneventful and traffic wasn`t too bad, even around Orlando again but it was only early afternoon, we turn off at The Mall at Millenia exit and come in through Kirkman which is always busy and we often wonder how many minutes a day we are stopped at those lights, if you just miss the green light, you feel as though you sit forever waiting for them to change.

We parked and headed in, M had asked us to txt her when we were almost home which we did and she was waiting for us in the lobby and she took us along to the room which is the Sapphire Suite and we absolutely love this one!!

M is just lovely, she is the nicest, kindest person and has a fabulous sense of humour which we love, we get on very well with her having known her for many years. We chat for ages in the suite and have a really good catch up again and time passes so quickly, we always worry we take up so much time chatting with staff, but they are so very generous with their time, it`s always a pleasure spending time with them.

The suite is just lovely, it is incredibly spacious, light and airy and we honestly feel so much at home here and always enjoy spending some down time chilling in the room as there is so much space. It is always immaculately clean and smells so fresh.

Having a second bathroom is ideal and this ends up being for Tom`s sole use which works well although he can shower in what is known as "my" bathroom, aren`t I kind......:rotfl: But it works well for us and it is a nice sized space and plenty of storage for all his toiletries.

i-SQWF9F4-X2.jpg

The sitting area is lovely, the sofa is surprisingly comfortable considering the amount of people who must sit on it throughout a year and both of us have been known to have a very relaxing nap at one time or another, so it definitely passes our snooze test.

i-xvQfZrG-X2.jpg

i-S5BXnvK-X2.jpg

i-jRfjffT-X2.jpg

The little kitchen is fine for us, it has some storage space for any treats and goodies we buy and the fridge is larger than the ones in regular rooms which is handy for drinks and anything you want chilled, usually white wine or prosecco for us.

We never use the coffee machine in any room, preferring to go get something from Dutch Trading if we want anything, we do bring tea bags from the Club Lounge and get some large cups of boiling water from them and make tea that way, tea bags are never our first choice, but it works just fine for us here if we fancy a cuppa.

i-nSQPJnc-X2.jpg

We love our bedroom here, the bed is nice, large and very, very comfy, we always sleep really well here and like the King Suite at RP, once you close that bedroom door you rarely if ever hear any sound that may come from the hallways which I`m told can be an issue in regular rooms.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and just feel nice to be in, it has a warm and cosy feeling especially with the low lighting on in the evenings.

i-3HNGkpF-X2.jpg

As well as hanging space for clothes, the unit under the tv holds 4 large drawers as well as cabinet space too, so despite us (me) having a lot of clothes, we never struggle for storage space here.

I do bring my own coathangers as although the ones from the hotels are fine, but they are bulky so I`d never be able to fit all my clothes in if I asked for extra hotel hangers.

i-BxqP73S-X2.jpg

And my bathroom!!

It is huge and very spacious, it also has the very divisive barn style door from the bedroom that some folks don`t like, it doesn`t bother us at all and the separate toilet with a full door is in there too. But, for the regular rooms I can see why some folks don`t like that style of door for privacy reasons, no worries like that for us after almost 35 years together, there are no surprises anymore 🥰

I am a little selfish here, I love having the double sink all to myself, we have a double sink in our master bathroom at home although they are further apart than these and I don`t mind sharing that back home, but here, I do like the space I have as I have straighteners and the space the hairdryer takes up as well as all of my toiletries, make up and hair products, so it is a little selfish, but works well for us.

i-c5FpGxf-X2.jpg

There are two showers in this suite, one is a walk in with a nice glass door and the other is over the bathtub. The walk in one is a good size with it`s own little shelf or seat depending on who you are, but I was disappointed to see Sapphire along with RP and PB have joined in on the communal shower gel/shampoo and conditioners which we absolutely loathe.

To be fair they have kept the same products in the bottles and it is still the Julian Farrel range which is nice enough, I think the only time I ever used it prevously is on the first night before we go shopping for my preferred products. It adds too much weight to bring things like that from home for us, so that first day shop is when we stock up on things like that.

i-L6dS5dm-X2.jpg

i-vpmWgbN-X2.jpg

You do still get a bar of soap if you still use them and a body lotion along with a shower cap, does anyone wear those anymore? I`m always surprised to see them in hotels today, but maybe someone will be happy to see one.

Having the second shower must be ideal if you have a family in here and can have both showers going at the same time. For us, we have never used the shower over the tub, no reason to but also....I hate shower curtains and will always have a screen in our bathrooms at home, even though I hate cleaning them, but one of those jobs you have to do, although being honest, Tom does that job on ours and a very good job he does too!!

You also get a plethora of towels in this suite which is nice as we do shower at least twice a day and like fresh towels every time.

i-3MgM56z-X2.jpg

The lagoon view is definitely a preference of ours, not only is it quieter than a pool view, but you get to see the most beautiful sunrises over RP which I love to see most mornings, while sleeping beauty prefers to continue sleeping over a sunrise! Fair enough, he does like to sleep later than me in the mornings and with him now being retired more than 7 years he does enjoy a late sleep, can`t say I blame him.

i-XffKcLF-X2.jpg

Once we had taken our usual pictures our thoughts turned to unpacking, it really doesn`t take long, I keep all my clothes on their hangers for ease of transfer so it doesn`t take long to get everything in place for the rest of our stay.

Before we did though, we were tempted to indulge a little in the beautiful amenity M had arranged for us, so very thoughtful of her as always and I was immediately drawn to the strawberries and fruit so we did pull up a chair and enjoyed some of the lovely treats before we unpacked. Cheese and fruit with a glass of wine is a hard combination to beat!

i-JXxQvPj-X2.jpg

i-H6tQZDx-X2.jpg

I admit to eating all of the pineapple slice coated in coconut, it is beautiful, but everything was so fresh and we did enjoy what we had of it just now. The strawberries, I think we ate a couple of them and put the rest in the fridge for later along with the cheese and fruit leftover. We didn`t plan on going over to the Club Lounge tonight so it was nice and relaxing, nibbling while we unpacked was very pleasant.

i-Psns56G-X2.jpg

We headed down to Strong Water (of course) for a quick snack really, once we knew from the other night they still had the Vegan Hotpot on their separate vegetarian menu, we knew we wanted a bowl each of it, so we deliberately didn`t eat too many of the treats as this dish is very filling indeed, but gorgeous!!

It is always lovely to walk in and everyone smiles and waves, it is the friendliest place around and yes it does feel a little like a certain tv show at times as everyone knows us.....😍

i-xFJzbxg-S.gif

We sat down at our table and Maggie/Demi had taken our drinks order and I spotted a man heading towards us waving and smiling, it was the lovely Mr Beiderman who wanted to come say hello, we hadn`t seen him so far this trip so it was lovely and very kind of him to take the time to come see us. I did joke we were quite predictable and easy to find at times!!!

He sat down and joined us for a while and it`s always a real pleasure to see him, he is just the nicest man and we are always appreciative of the time he finds for us while we are here on each visit. Catching up of course is lovely and the F&B manager also pops over, Mark we have only known a couple of years but we love seeing him and he has a wicked sense of humour too, it is nice to bump into him throughout our trip too.

He only stays a few minutes so we can chat more to Mr Beiderman and he then asks what we are doing our last Friday night of our stay, we can honestly say we have nothing planned, so he invites to come to Jake`s Beer Festival as his guests and we say we`d be absolutely delighted to attend it, we had heard many good things about it and this year they had upped it to include a VIP area and we would be in that group which was so kind of him, we were excited to attend this event, without wishing the end of our trip of course!!

He headed off at that point, we thanked him again and Chef Carlos came over to say hello and we told him we were having the hotpot, he thinks it hilarious we enjoy it so much despite not usually eating vegan dishes, but this is one dish we`d happily eat anytime. And I know he is very proud of this dish, especially as we enjoy it so much which I think he took as a personal challenge to, not convert us, but to appreciate what vegan food can be and it worked! I do tease him it would be nice with some lamb or beef in it....always with a twinkle of course, he knows I tease him!

I forget if I already posted Strong Water`s separate vegetarian/vegan menu, but here it is in case I haven`t.

i-TCX4DpX-X2.jpg

Chef Carlos brought them out himself and said he hoped we found it spicy enough, it can vary at times as to spice levels, but it was perfect and to be fair, we love it whether it is very spicy or with just a little spice, this dish is amazing, it`s almost a winter warming dish you can enjoy in any season!!

There are peppers, onions, amazing mushrooms in the spinach puree and also the little dumplings are like little pieces of heaven, absolutely gorgeous dish and it is topped with crispy potatoes which soak in beautifully to this exquisite medley of flavours.

i-VKf8M4K-X2.jpg

It is very green which puts some people off apparently, but this is one of the nicest dishes we have ever tasted.

i-VxjZ4tJ-X2.jpg

I had a glass of wine and Tom ordered the Fountain of Youth which is one of his favourite drinks, Fernando brought over one of their own drinks he makes up, a Pumpkin Rum which was absolutely gorgeous, again not a flavour I usually enjoy, he said I`d like it a couple of years ago and he was right, it`s nice to sip with some ice or enjoyed within one of their seasonal cocktails.

i-jQHHPsz-X2.jpg

We always enjoy our time in Strong Water, food, drinks and the company are always wonderful, we sit with Fernando and chat to several members of staff for a time before heading off.

Tonight we were heading into IOA for some evening park time.

Trying to remember if they hold the regular parade the same day of the xmas one…drawing a blank. Any idea?

Welcome back to the boards, hopefully, a nice distraction for you at this time.

I have no memory of what they did last few years, drawing a blank there too!! Was there even a day time parade last year, my only memory is the Gru/Minion bash outside the Horror Make up Show and that`s not really a parade I guess.

Thanks, yes, any distraction is a good thing at times :thumbsup2

We loved the parade at Universal! It was wonderful!
I would love the hotdog at Strong Water!
Andi and Kait loved the vegetarian dishes they had and the chicken!
I will be enjoying drinks and small bites there in a couple weeks, yay!

It was really good wasn`t it!

I`m not really a hotdog fan, but it was very nice and with the unusual topping, I really liked it, so much so I did try another hot dog later in the trip in Citywalk.

And very glad to hear you all enjoyed the food in Strong Water, we`ve never been disappointed yet with anything in there and you`ll be back again soon???? Good to hear, will look forward to reading all about it :-)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I greatly enjoyed discovering this trip report last Friday and reading it all on a quiet Saturday morning. I told my fiance that it was cozy, like drinking a cup of hot tea. (He is an iced tea and coffee drinker, and I don't think he understood exactly what I was saying. ) I appreciate the club photos, because this is the first time I will be staying in a club level room and I'm pretty excited about it. Although we have dinner reservations for most nights, we may have Wednesday dinner there, and it was helpful to see the fajita offerings. My fiance was a bit concerned about the lack of sour cream or cheese! But he was glad to see he could make croissant and turkey sandwiches for breakfast.

My daughters and I like the areas around the lagoon and behind Me Ship for an escape from the crowds, and now I have a few more things to point out to my fiance/husband. I always forget about the troll. I also have to finally make it behind Mythos.

I appreciate the love for Confisco, which is my favorite Universal restaurant, partly because of happy memories and also the pork ribs and polenta, which seems to be back on the menu?

I'm glad you are back, and I am so sorry for your family's loss.
I know having you there was a comfort for everyone.

It's me! I am the one person who uses shower caps 🤣
My type of hair should not be washed too frequently, and those shower caps are a lifesaver so I don't end up with wildness.

The green in the hotpot might do me in, and I'm afraid I won't enjoy that. 😸

Mr. Worfie would be all over any hotdog; he's a long-term fan.

I am looking forward to the VIP report from the Beer Festival! Even though I don't like beer, it still sounds fun! 🍻

We wandered down to the boat and the line wasn`t too bad which was unusual for this time of the evening as many were on their way to HHN, however the boats run to capacity at peak times so we got on one really quickly.

Grumpy moment coming up.

So, I enjoy a party, I enjoy singing, even though I can`t carry a tune in a bucket and I like having fun and seeing other folks have fun.

1731939294769.gif

There were three men and maybe a lady too I think and they started singing, really, really loud!

One of them was right behind me and the three people to the side of us had two men behind them bellowing out a Queen song, which made it worse somehow, I adore Freddie Mercury and to hear his song be so excrutiatingly destroyed like this, well it irked me!!!

But, they were being really annoying and everyone was kind of looking at each other and rolling their eyes in that knowing kind of way. At least when no one else jumped in singing with them they eventually quite about half way to Citywalk. Yes, there is a difference between having fun and being obnoxious and annoying. We have been on the boats many times when everyone joins in the music, not so much today but several years ago it was very common to join in with several songs the Captains used to play.

We got off and Citywalk was nowhere near as busy as we thought it would be, we turned right and headed to IOA tonight, we were looking forward to spending some time in the park while it was dark, I do wish the parks opened later in September on a more regular basis because they look completely different in the dark and riding the rides are different too, your perceptions vary so much and I do think they are even more scary in the dark. The latest IOA was open during our stay was 8pm, even 9pm would be nicer.

There were still plenty of people heading in right now for the last hour or so but more people were leaving which was nice to see, not that we were planning to do many rides tonight, it was all about just wandering and seeing everything lit up and enjoy wandering around in this heat, especially knowing folks back home were so cold......I`m not evil but I did smile a little when one of my friends emailed me a picture of her dressed up in winter hat and scarf to go walk the dogs lol.....maybe a little evil in there 😈

We headed straight to Velocicoaster and it was so quiet so really the EP wasn`t needed, but we still used the EP line as is habit. The staff do a good job of getting folks through the metal detectors although even today there are still folks that try to get through the lines with things in their pockets despite knowing they can`t. It wastes so much time for the staff to deal with it, but they do great!

I like the locker system here, some don`t but it works fine for most people.

It only takes a few minutes and we were on the ride, back row although I wish we had gone for the front row as we only got on once, I think it may have gone down after we got off, I forget now, but that ride is one amazing experience. I get so nervous before we go on it, Tom is nothing but excited waiting, but you`d look at me and think I was going to Madame Guillotine instead of a rollercoaster!! But once I`m on it, I love it and love every second all the way around.

We get off and head up to go to Hogsmeade which is so beautiful at night when it`s lit up, well the parks in general are lovely lit up but the Potter areas are extra special.

We stop off at the Watering Hole and get a cocktail and it is deserted which is also nice, we grab a seat of which there are very few here now, there used to be lots of tables around now there are a couple so you have to stand or walk with the drinks.

We did get a picture but it`s just so blurry however the drinks were nice, not the best cocktails in the world but they do pack a punch!!!

i-9xrgbzm-X2.jpg

We don`t sit for too long and head to Hogsmeade, walking over the bridge was unusual as there was no one else there which is nice as sometimes you can`t get a decent spot for a picture without waiting for others to finish, it`s understandable as everyone wants that same picture.

i-NtwWdtN-X2.jpg

i-3rkWnRC-X2.jpg

It is hot!!! Really hot, so my hair looks bliddy awful by now so, yes, there`s no real pictures of us tonight. The light around this area is beautiful in the evenings, seeing the outline of the Castle against the evening sky is stunning, I don`t think we captured it properly either.

i-bQWjpPW-X2.jpg

i-CMgTpHj-X2.jpg

It wasn`t as busy as it usually is again, but there were still a good few people around so there was a decent atmosphere as everyone seems to be so happy.

If we had waited for Hagrids it would have taken us beyond closing time and we had no real desire to wait for that length of time for it tonight, it is a fabulous ride and we have been on it before, maybe when it doesn`t have a line we`ll jump in there. But tonight the line was fairly long for being so close to closing when many folks have found it be the best time to ride, I think we were just unlucky.

i-dWs7NSM-X2.jpg

i-m8HV23B-X2.jpg

I always like to catch the owl coming out of the tower if I can and didn`t expect to see it tonight, I did manage to capture it from the side, it also hoots if you can hear it too and so many folks don`t even notice it when it does it, we`ve had several folks look at us in an odd way as we look up for a few moments waiting for it.

i-Wwmv4CP-X2.jpg

The station was closed as the train was done for the day with HHN being on tonight, and there were a few folks asking why it wasn`t running despite it being late in the day, I`m not sure some folks do a lot of research before a trip and many don`t seem to know about HHN and park closing times.

But, it looked so pretty with no one around and lit up.

i-mv5GqjR-X2.jpg

We got some water and sat down in this beautiful little seating area opposite Fire Eaters Grill, during the day it`s too hot for us to sit out and eat so we never touch this place, but at night it is much nicer and far less busy, so it`s nice to take ten minutes to just sit and watch the world go past us and water is nice right now!

i-bnx7c35-X2.jpg

i-JwHRJqT-X2.jpg

After years of not getting Poseidon`s Fury, we did manage to see the show again days before they presented the final show which was a big success and when we saw it, all three of us said, why have we avoided it all this time lol...it was SO much fun and yep, we did regret not visiting it more often. But, too late now.

However, this building is beautiful and whatever they eventually replace Poseidon with, I`m sure they`ll make sure this building is kept exactly as it is right now.

i-Bpb5KQf-X2.jpg

i-bDJzb6s-X2.jpg

This was a new design on the entrance to Backwater Bar which is attached to Confisco, it is very cool and I argued with myself how long it had been there and I`m sure this whole area was plain last trip, so I looked back pictures and indeed this was a whole new sign that had been painted on, it looks really good though.

i-JDLbwss-X2.jpg

The Hulk is a one and done for me now, it is a little rough even on the front row, but we always like to do it a few times each trip as it is so good, that take off is a lot of fun, but the latter half of the ride is just a headbanger, for me anyway, I`m sure some don`t mind it but tonight we`d pass and have a go another day.

i-ZCqTRBr-X2.jpg

I do rave about Confisco, but we gave it a miss this time after a couple of disappointing meals last few visits. Such a shame as we have enjoyed many lovely meals in there, I`m sure we`ll try it again in the future though. But the building is lovely inside and out and I`d still recommend it if you haven`t gone before.

i-XzCKkRd-X2.jpg

i-SX2bwPV-X2.jpg

Port of Entry is always so pretty and we realised we hadn`t gone into the Christmas Store properly yet this trip, but for now we were just heading out and would shop another day for any little trinkets we might pick up.

i-CqT28nn-X2.jpg

i-sbvVh8x-X2.jpg

i-XqvVhnL-X2.jpg

We wandered down to get the boat, we would have a look at the store that showed the plans for Epic Universe another night, it wasn`t something we were desperate to see as we knew the layout and plans for the park, but we`d have a glance another time.

Hopped straight on a boat and sat beside a lady who was heading to Sapphire to try out Strong Water Bar for the first time with her daughter, she asked if we had been before and any recommendations as to what to have there.....:hyper2:

1731946802721.gif

I think her poor eyes were glazing over when I was done telling her how much she`d love it and all the options she may like! I hoped they did enjoy it whatever they had.

For us, we were heading back to our suite, we had some wine and snacks to work through, we had a few things from Winter Park too so we planned a little night time picnic and watch a movie for the rest of the evening. We do enjoy some time enjoying the suite rather than it just be a place to sleep.

And that`s what we did, had some snacks, finished the fresh goodies M had arranged for us and had a nice glass of wine. I forget which movie we ordered but it passed an evening and it was lovely, I may even have nodded off at one point, then denied it of course!!

It had just been such a lovely day and only our first night at Sapphire Falls.

lol, you are not kidding! now, wondering what veggie involved to produce that vibrant hue

that suite is lovely indeed

Spinach according to Chef Carlos, it`s not the dominant flavour in the dish, but you can tell it`s there but it`s quite delicate. I could go one of those right now!!

It`s gorgeous, not too big so it still feels quite cosy, yes, we love that suite.

:welcome: along KatieCharlotte

Thank you.

I know what you mean about a hot cuppa, and glad you enjoyed reading it so much.

Yes, the sour cream and cheese should really be there on fajita night, but the chicken is very nice. I think you`ll like the lounge, even though we eat very few times in the evening it is still very nice. Tom loves the croissants for breakfast and he does enjoy the turkey or ham with cheese too.

The Troll is something a lot of folks miss, it is quite cool to hear him and from the other side of the lagoon you can see the entrance to his lair, it`s really well done.

We missed Confisco this trip, it had disappointed us last couple of times, but we did hear a couple of families in the lounge mention they had gone and really enjoyed it. Glad the ribs and polenta is back on the menu though, that was one of our favourite dishes and rather strangely we were the first folks to have it as we were in the day the Chef was testing it out before it went on the menu full time, lovely dish.

Glad to have you along, hope you enjoy the rest of the report :wave2:

I am looking forward to the VIP report from the Beer Festival! Even though I don't like beer, it still sounds fun! 🍻

Thank you Maria, you feel a little useless at times like that, no easy way to deal with a loss like this.

You`re the one......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well that makes sense with your hair when I think on it, I just don`t know anyone who uses them....well, now I do haha

Being honest, I didn`t think I`d like it when I saw someone at the next table order it before we tried it, but Chef Carlos as always assured me I`d love it and we both did. But, if you could get past the colour, it is incredible. Oh the hot dog was lovely, I think hot dog fans would enjoy it too.

I don`t like beer either, but they had a variety of wines and cocktails too and some of the beers were sours which I do like, well some of them. Spoiler....we had a lovely time!!!

Good to see you Maria :wave2:
