Has anyone had a fence installed recently? We are looking at a house that does not have a fence and wondering how much it would be to add one? I'm thinking vinyl or wood, 4-6 feet (not really sure) What did you have installed and how much was it per foot, or however it was measured.

I just received a price quote on a 25x25 chain link and it was $1000. I think i am going to get the fencing myself and put my own up.

We are doing a 6' privacy fence ourselves. I have priced a 200ft wood fence and it is going to cost us just over $800. We are planning on using 6' dog ear pickets. At our previous house, my husband and I built a fence that was about 250 ft long. It was a wooden fence that was 4' picket. We also built that for about $800. HTH

Your Realtor should be able to tell you how much it would be in your area. We had a cedar, privacy fence installed... I think it was $2,000+...I don't remember how much per foot..sorry!

It may be regional, so keep that in mind - we install panels on our 6' stockage fence all the time, and just a few weeks ago the cost for supplies was $80 per 8' long panel plus $20 per upright post. That doesn't include delivery or installation.

make sure you know where the property line is before you spend the money to install.

I would have to say very regional as well...
If you are looking for a privacy fence where I am it will be multiple thousands-- not unheard of to spend 7-10 or more
Please note that home depot and lowes fences will not last I have 2 neighbors with them and they are in sad shape after a few years on is vinyl one is composite wood... wood.. my brother had one that lasted about 3 years...
make sure you find a place that has or instals a good product or you will likely be paying twice

We have a 6 ft white vinyl fence which included 52 panels, 2 single gates and a double gate and it was $11, 400 installed in January 2009. That also included taking our 6 year old 6 ft cedar fence down and removing it (same company put the original one up). I think the wooden one was about $7,000. We did both "off season" for a discounted price.

WOW!
Do you mind if I ask where you got your fence from? Lowe's, HD, Menards? Or are they special ordered somewhere else?

And do you like your vinyl fence?

I live in North Texas and just had a new wood fence installed last week! It cost more than we expected, but after reading these posts I now think we got a great deal!
We had 21 treated pine panels (6'x8') installed with new metal posts (24) on the two long sides of our property and it cost $2,000. So roughly 170 feet total or $12 a foot. It took 2 days to install.
We are splitting the cost of one side with our neighbor, but since we are on a corner lot the street side is all ours. The back side was already replaced a few years ago so we left that alone. The old fence was original to the house we built 8 years ago. We had wood posts of which about 25% were replaced over that time. Here's hoping the metal posts last!

We had our fence built last year. Our specs: 180 linear feet, 5 foot-tall dogear stockade/privacy fence with 3 custom gates. Hand built on a sloped lot. Cost $2,400 (about $13.35 per linear foot). Since we went with wood, we had to add $400 for the deck and fencing stain, which we are currently applying since the wood has "seasoned out".

Best home improvement we have ever done! My dogs have a safe place to run and play and my older dog can practice her agility without the neighbors looking at ugly PVC pipe equipment. Our fence has basically given us an extra room to our house. We never used the backyard before, but now use it all the time.

One thing I found out is that the picket boards used by the fencing company are basically twice as thick as the picket boards on the panels at the home improvement stores. I also asked to purchase an extra 6-8 boards to have on hand as replacements if needed. Our cost was based on a 6' height, but we had to build at 5' due to home owners rules. I got 3 estimates and the costs were all in the same neighborhood. Varied by $50 I believe.

I put up a vinyl picket fence, the one that looks like wrought iron. About 26 panels and one gate. It was 4K. The white vinyl privacy one would have been around 7K. It is really nice and really looks alot better with my house than the white one. Wood fences are not allowed in my neighborhood. I have a overbearing, controlling HOA. LOL.

We are looking into fencing right now as we just got a puppy a few weeks ago and want to fence in the backyard for her. We got a quote from Lowe's for 370ft of 4ft vinyl fencing with 2 gates. The total for installation and everything was $12,000. After we picked ourselves up off the floor we called a local fencing company. They told us that for vinyl that was going to be the standard amount, give or take a few thousand. So we got them to quote us for 4ft split rail with wire mesh and it will cost us $5000. We are going to go with that, we just need to get our deposit in so we can get on their installation schedule.

This is what I think I am going to do. Get the wood for the split rail and the wire mesh and put up in the backyard so the dogs can go out off the deck. It's much cheaper too!! But I will be installing it to save on the labor.

3200 for a wood fence fencing about .25 acres the same fence in vinyl was a quote of 8500$

we paid 12500 for a vinyl fence 2 years ago... we got estimates from 9000-14000... we went middle of the road...

This is what we have at our house and I have to warn you that it is not going to last as long as a more expensive fence. We have had a problem with the rails breaking and the wood posts rotting. I'm not sure how old the fence is in our yard as it was here when we moved in, but I'm guessing less than 10 years old.

Just got an estimate to replace our cedar 8 6' by 8' panels with two self gates. (It lasted 20 years but this winter really took its toll, BAD!)
White Vinyl was 2600. installed, cedar pressure treated was 2400. installed, of course the color vinyl to match the house was an UPgrade (some darker beige color) which will be almost 3K (which does not surprise me because the vinyl on the house was an UPgrade for that color, WTH was I thinking when I did that....
Not sure what we'll go with...............I am "on the fence" about it, no pun intended....

Our fence was put in by a local company that was the cheapest of 4 quotes. Lowes wanted $16,000 just for the same amount of vinyl fence/installation. That didn't include demolition and removal of the old fence. Our fence panels are wider than what Lowe's sells. We have neighbors that bought Lowe's fencing and put them up themselves and ours looks much better. Our model is V-300 by SWP Industries. We absolutely love it. I don't miss powerwashing and sealing our old wooden fence. It was cedar and even though it was 7 years old, it was warping and the individual slats would some times drop lower than the bottom support and the lattice was starting to fall apart. I would highly recommend what we have now.

Thanks!
I was wondering if the product is any different from the big box stores vs. installation companies.
