February 2025 W.I.S.H. - Give yourself some love

My favorite winter activity is traveling someplace warm for vacation during the winter!!! We stopped summer vacationing once DD switch to cyber charter 5 years ago and we absolutely look so forward to escaping the cold and going someplace warm for a week each winter!!

Winter is becoming more and more physically difficult for me each year. I have arthritis in my knees and hands and some days it’s crippling. Now this winter I have been diagnosed with Raynauds which is when your fingers and toes turn white and blue and go numb, then turn redish black in response to the cold. I often have to wear gloves with hot hands in them just to keep my hands working…while I am indoors! Ugh! Getting old is the worst!!!

For Sunday self care was church this morning, I needed to hear the message and also see friends and chat.

We are also getting awful weather-snow yesterday that turned into sleet…temps Rose overnight and it turned to rain and melted everything but it’s still raining and an absolute muddy mess! This week doesn’t look any better 😕

Stay warm everyone!!!

Self-care... there is just one thing that must be done today - getting the stuff I want to keep out of the shed and putting the stuff that is to go into it. Probably an hour's worth of work at the most, not counting all the time spent about obsessing about getting it done. So, it should be a pretty chill day.

Next week is going to be very light on the moving chores front, so well done me for getting to this point. And I am so looking forward to having new things to think about and do.

After the snow, we got rain and it’s a slushy mess outside. Rain will continue into tonight then temperatures are dropping to 19 degrees, which means ice. Tuesday it’s going to be 13 degrees and it won’t be warming up. More snow Wednesday into Thursday.

DD is getting sick. I have been avoiding illnesses for several weeks now. I’m hoping that I will avoid hers as well.

My self care is planning which seeds to buy…we have amazing flower gardens but this year we’re starting a vegetable garden.

All I've done or thought about lately is getting ready to move, so it was a welcome and satisfying change of pace to go out to dinner with my Niece and her Husband last night, to a place on my PT bucket list that I hadn't been to yet.

My motivation this week is to shift my focus a bit and be more balanced. And to celebrate everything I've accomplished.

I am motivated by the fact that I am running out of time. I have two major weddings and bridal showers to attend this year, and I want to look beautiful and be comfortable and confident in my own body. It’s taking me a very long time to lose weight. I know that stress hormones make it harder and being post menopausal is also a factor. I need to work my absolute hardest to get the results I want.

I deep cleaned my bedroom and upstairs bathroom then gave myself a spa treatment. I’m going to have a healthy lunch and focus on my wellbeing instead of the news which is stressing me out tremendously. I need to take a social media break and just take care of myself, my family, and my students.

My in-laws took the kids out for lunch today so I was able to hit the gym…not for long but enough time to blast the music and get my heart pumping. Couple songs hit me a bit too much in the feels but I know it will pass.
I was comforted on Saturday when I went to run an errand by myself and as soon as I turned on the radio the theme song for my senior prom came on…how often do you all hear “I’ve had the Time of My Life?” I know I don’t hear it often. It made me laugh, tear up and take a the first deep breath I’ve taken since Thursday.
Motivation is to continue to try to take care of my health both physical and mental. Need to stop doomscrolling at night and return to reading and quality podcasts/youtube creators

Not really a big fan of Valentine’s Day…never have been. I get cards for the kids to acknowledge the day and I know I have written here about the real love I was shown by DH’s family on valentines 2020. Well my dislike of Valentine’s Day increased this year when I was informed yesterday of the sudden passing of my high school/college boyfriend. While I have not seen him in a few years the news came as a punch to the gut. People under 45 are not supposed to just…cease being. The fact that no one in my department seemed to understand how to do their jobs today did not help.
I know I am a day late but I am thankful for the non-romantic love of family
I am thankful to have learned about romantic love with a gentle soul who helped me learn my worth as a partner and eventually set me on the path to meet my spouse
And a reminder dear disers to take care of yourself
I am so sorry for your loss.

I first thought was nothing. I hate winter. I hate the snow and I hate the cold. I really live in the wrong part of the US. But after reading your answer @Summer2018 I would agree that I hibernate. I like to be under a blanket (up until this year it was my heated blanket but I have been running a little warm so that gets to be too much) and watching TV.
Now this winter I have been diagnosed with Raynauds which is when your fingers and toes turn white and blue and go numb, then turn redish black in response to the cold.
My daughter was just diagnosed with is on Saturday. She called me from work (she works at a horse barn) to tell me that her finger was tip was blue. It really freaked me out and I had to argue with her to come home so I could take her to the doctors. I have never heard about this until Saturday but glad she was not going to lose her finger (that is what was going through my head because I was thinking frost bite though it was in the 30's and she works much colder days)

This weekend did not go as planned. I went back to the doctor's on Friday and they finally listened that I had a sinus infection. I get them a lot so I know when I am getting one. I don't swallow pills great so I always get liquid and it really messes with my stomach. I was nauseous all Friday night so I missed Jazzercise. I am doing better so I might go tomorrow and then again on Saturday this week.

Saturday DD called that her finger tip was blue so I took her to the urgicare. I also woke up DS as he has still been sick and I was guessing he had a sinus infection as well so I took him with us as well to urgicare. DD was diagnosed with Raynauds (just one more thing to add to her list) and DS with a sinus infection. I did make homemade mac and cheese and Broccoli cheddar soup for dinner.

Sunday it snowed a lot. We got about 5.5 inches. DD drove to her jump lesson before it got bad so DH and I picked her up and left the car at the barn. I then drove her to her fast food job and had to pick her up. Roads were just a mess around here.

I ended up on the couch yesterday as I was having female issues but I was at least able to go grocery shopping. Other then that I didn't move from the couch.

Today I am doing much better and will get on the treadmill for my lunch.

I can’t believe your daughter and I have the same thing-I have never heard of it either, before I was diagnosed. It happened to me the first time while I was driving with my heated steering wheel on…so I knew it was not frostbite but still scary.

Hot hands in gloves is the best recommendation I can make. Also while I am sitting I keep a heating pad on and warm my hands under it every few minutes when I can’t wear gloves.

She typically does wear hot hand and toes but she didn't on Saturday because it was warmer (I think at some point we were close to 40). She also has rechargeable hand warmers. I did read that migraine medicine can cause it (which she is on), so when we see the neurologist next week, I will ask about it. I do need to get her into the pediatrician about this as well.

TOPIC TUESDAY

Last week when Summer brought up self-love, several of us responded with how difficult it is to do. Do any of Brene Brown's tips below resonate with you as something that would help to be more loving towards yourself?

10 Rules for Self-love (from Brené Brown)

1. You are enough.
Give less power to the agonizing feeling of not being enough and use positive affirmations.

2. Share your whole story and whole heart.
Remember imperfections are a gift. Be courageous and allow yourself to be seen.

3. Engage with the world
Everything around you is a mirror, if you act from a place of worthiness life will reflect that back to you.

4. Vulnerability is the birthplace of love.
Remind yourself that the process of being vulnerable rewards us with connection, empathy and joy.

5. Get vulnerable.
Remember that vulnerability is not winning or losing, it’s having the power to show up when you can’t control the outcome.

6. Let go of your armour
Don’t judge. Instead, use self-compassion to buffer against the misperceptions of our own vulnerabilities.

7. Speak to yourself the way you speak to someone you love
This is especially important when you’re feeling unworthy. Give yourself the same love and kindness you give others. Challenge any negative thinking patterns and remind yourself that you are worthy.

8. Let go of perfectionism.
Remember we are human and don’t need to be perfect all the time.

9. Be grateful.
By accessing gratitude, you are able to be more present in your life.

10. Practice authenticity.

Show up for yourself. Being genuine and real is a practice we choose every day.

The things that resonate with me are:
... imperfections are a gift. So don't waste energy trying to hide them - share them.
... engage in the world. This one is timely for me with my pending return to the office.
... show up when you can't control the outcome. This one was an thought stopper. I don't know that I ever do this.

I can’t believe your daughter and I have the same thing-I have never heard of it either, before I was diagnosed.
One of my nieces has it too. I think it's more common than people realize.

Speak to yourself the way you speak to someone you love
This is especially important when you’re feeling unworthy.
This one!! I think it's so important to give yourself the same respect and grace you'd give a friend.

The gratitude one as well.

@piglet1979 and @PAsFab5 I was diagnosed a few years ago. Couple troubleshooting pointers if I may…
If you are having…let’s call it an occurrence…and are needing a shower start with warm water after instead of hot. The sudden temp change can be a little painful. Give your digits a chance the gradually warm, same with hand washing
Heavy socks and serious nail clippers…the skin on the toes can get super thick in the winter as can toenails. Why? No idea but it happens
Lotion hands and feet after an occurrence to prevent dry skin. Sleep in socks and tuck hands into sleeves at night. I sleep in a “comfy” ever night from October to like March and it’s a game changer.
“Madonna gloves” under regular gloves if it’s super cold. That way if you need your finger tips (such as to use a phone) most of your hand will still be covered if you take the first layer off. Related let your fingers warm before trying to use a phone or tablet..they do not like raynauds fingers.
Have some fun and freak out friends who don’t know what it is…ghost white fingers in someone’s face is always good for a laugh

Omg y'all... I've thought I have neuropathy in my feet for several years but now I'm thinking it is Rainauds, or possibly a combo of both. More than anything my feel are cold and to sleep well I have to wear socks and have the electric blanket on. A couple times I've noticed my toes were blue and lately I've had a couple times where my fingertips have gone numb and super cold. This house is spotty cold and the floors are always cold, so I am so glad to be moving into the apartment, which is surrounded by other apartments and has carpet.
