FB cruise groups for DCL

When it comes to the FB cruise groups, especially for DCL cruises, it really matters on who sets up the group as to how good the information that the group ends up providing. I've been in 4 so far, all 4 were not setup by the Administrator of one of the larger DCL FB Groups and all 4 have supplied good answers to questions and ran pretty smoothly. Every now and then something gets posted that is wrong, but people are quick to point out the error and correct information is then supplied.

The cruise groups for certain sailings that are setup by the Administrator who runs one of the larger DCL cruise groups on FB, are not worth joining in my opinion. Those groups are run poorly, can have bad information and if you piss off the Admin, by questioning their wrong answer, she will boot you from that group. She only allows things to be done her way, and she is quick to shut off comments if people question her answers. She also will not allow anyone to post anything that suggests they go to places like the Disboards for better information and suggesting that people come here for their answers is another way to get quickly booted from that cruise group.

I've really enjoyed all but one of the groups I've joined on FB. That admin actually blocked me and a lot of other people just for joining a different group for the same cruise, she viewed them as a rival or something, it got weird and I wasn't sad to go. However I find that the exception rather that the rule. Mostly, I get a lot of discussion and great information. We don't do tastings or FE so I don't worry about all that, but I've learned a lot about excursions and packing tips for our Alaska cruise.

If you don't like your particular cruise group, there's usually a general one for that ship or region, and those can be really helpful too.

I am still amazed at all the wrong information that is given on this FB page. I feel bad for all the 1st timers who think this is gospel and will be utterly confused when the time comes. Reading this info is all very entertaining.
I doubt I join one ever again.

Can I ask... What information are they sharing that is so incorrect? Especially since you mentioned your cruise group is a lot of pearl and Platinum cruisers who are generally MORE than a bit familiar with DCL and how things work (or don't). Normally they are quick to point out something that is inaccurate so I am curious what information are you seeing that you keep sharing over and over is so wrong?

My first cruise was last summer and the FB group for the sailing was run by a wonderful volunteer who was an experienced cruiser. She let all us newbies know what to expect, answered questions, organized the WhatsApp group. Somehow she knew which night Pirate Night would be, etc: After the cruise, she let us know how it compared to other cruises she’d been on, which was also helpful. (Apparantly it felt more crowded and was filled with more first timers than others she had done). And we also all let each know who caught COVID afterwards! (Many of us, ha.) it was nice to have a little community on board.

There are two for my sailing, not until September, but one found out that the other existed and some people were like "but I don't wanna leave y'all!" And I'm thinking...."you can be in more than one!" hahaha But there is talk about joining them....

but most of the stuff I have seen is only about Fish Extenders.....already seems like a lot of work!

I am betting you are on my cruise... Sept 19th Magic? Im part of both but I agree (and if you look most people are members of both groups) just join both (or better combine them)

More information often gets shared closer to sailing. If it gets shared this early people don't read it, or forget it, or new people join closer to sailing and ask again.

Some folk reeeeeally go hard on fish extenders..! Making personalized items for each member of every family etc, but you definitely do not have to go that hard to participate. We bring small items to pixie dust in others' during our sailing which is more low key but still fun! We really are up to our eyeballs in trinkets so we really don't want anything in return anymore.

Oh I bet they do get more helpful....I went on two identical trips on RCL from Alaska in 2022 and 2023 and those groups were great (though the duplicate questions were VERY frequent) but people thought that I was quite helpful on the second one because I could answer such specific questions! hahaha

To each their own. I have found the Disboards crowd to be really helpful. One contributor in particular makes me want to start a contest and call it “try asking for a picture xxxx can’t provide”.

I have had good groups on other forums, but lately there have been some that lean towards individuals repping their business or side hustle trying to sell to the group. It is easy enough for me to ignore, and nobody else has voiced opposition. Maybe I am just too grumpy in my old age.
