enjoying the Boardwalk

There is a thread here specific to BWI, if you ask there you can likely get updated info on if/how intrusive the remodeling actually is.
Thank you ...I realized I posted in the wrong thread after I posted my question ... But I thought "oh well" :D We will just stay at the Boardwalk. We did get a good BB offer on our room... plus its Disney.. life does not get any better!!!!:dance3:Marla

If you are stuck on take a Skyliner to Epcot, it is the back entrance of Epcot right near the boardwalk. It is not the front entrance of Epcot.

I read where the Boardwalk is undergoing more refurbishment in the merchandise locations. I also read the Yacht Club removes mention of room refurbishment. We originally were going to stay at the Yacht ..I personally like the Yacht better because of all the memories of our family trips!!! So we switched to the Boardwalk because of the refurbishment at the Yacht.
The Storm Along Bay pool will still be under refurbishment through June. We still don't know why Disney removed the room reimbursement from YC. The latest rumor (last week) update is that the YC 5th floor will close today to start a refurbishment. So we still expect the other guest rooms to be next.

The only refurbishment listed at the BW is the Screen Door, Character Carnival, and Thimbles and Threads retail locations and that 2 of the 3 would be open at any 1 time. So only minor vs the YC.

I'm staying at AK, driving to BWI with an ADR next week. I then want hang out at Jellyrolls for a while. They aren't going to squawk about me staying for 3+ hours are they? In other words, do they say "you've got 2 hours, buddy"?
The problem may be that there is no parking available when you attempt to park for your ADR in the evening. If parking is available you should be fine.

So plan B is what then? If I get there and there is no room at the Inn...

Beach Club? Swan/Dolphin won't offer me free parking (via a Cake Bake or Jellyrolls voucher), correct?

I would be shocked if BC/YC gave you free parking for a BW ADR.

You would have to pay for Swolphin parking, they won’t validate Disney dining.

Just rideshare, it’s like $10 and you don’t have to trudge through parking lots or drive back out to AKL when the night is over.

I don’t think you’ll be turned away with an ADR. We’re here this week, and I’m seeing that the valet parking area is much smaller than it used to be, which frees up space for BWV and BWI guests as well as those with ADRs. But that doesn’t mean there’s room to park for a breakfast ADR and leave the car all day, though!

I used Lyft several times this past trip when I didn't want to have to transfer on Disney transportation. It worked great and I was only paying $6-$7 per ride plus tip.

10 minutes vs 'allowing 90 minutes' for Disney transportation and you are not guaranteed a seat.

The only time rideshare is problematic is when things are closing because thousands of people are doing the same thing at once.

Lyft is very quick and reliable around property, I agree. Unless it’s a surge pricing situation at park open or close, I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $12 for one either.

I swear no matter what hotel I'm headed to DS buses are The Worst. They take forever!

Weirdly, we seem to have the best luck at DS with buses. Going back to Poly/GF it always comes right away. Of course now I just jinxed myself… 🧿

I say this a lot, but I think much of the complaining about Disney transportation stems from people who just aren’t used to the quirks of public transit because they never use it at home. Disney’s system would be a vast improvement on my commuting days at home.

Where does Lyft pick up and drop off at BWI and AKL. I assume that the official Lyft cars get past the gate?

At AKL we were picked up at Jambo lobby. At BW we were dropped off at the Boardwalk Lobby (we had an ADR at Trattoria).

My son and I will be at Disney May 10-20...My husband is taking a break from Disney plus he is babysitting our old adopted blind dog. So this trip is for me, I guess, I will be 62 PLUS retired!!!!! My son does not remember staying at the Boardwalk because at the time he was in a stroller is 29 now. I do like the night life on the Boardwalk the magic shows the jugglers ect.. And I have no problem staying there because it is such a grand resort...but Iam sooooo tired of all the refurbishments!!!! We have been to Disney many many many years and I dont remember so many closures...please Iam not complaining because I know we are fortunate to have gone so many years... OK FINALLY Iam done.. ...Please tell me the Boardwalk we be fine ...Its just a few stores so get over it!!! Thanks Marla

Congratulations on your retirement and your trip just for you! I'm an owner at Boardwalk Villas and I love it! There are always some bits of fixing up going on, but most got finished earlier in 2024. The merchandise refurb should be a very minor blip.

Even with work happening the convenience of staying at Boardwalk makes a huge difference. Your son will enjoy it and it gives both of you freedom. If he wants to stay in an adjacent park it's so easy for you to go back or vice versa. Enjoy!

At BWI Lyft picks up and drops off right at the lobby entrance. It was great. Never had to wait for a car more than a few minutes.

With age comes wisdom and sometimes that wisdom hurts  It’s all good. At least we made it this far. Enjoy BW!

you used to be able to do that years ago, but as with anything people abused it and said they were going to check out the Boardwalk and parked there and went to either Epcot or HS... Now you need a Dining reservation or Satying on Property to park there

...or Staying on Property to park there

Last week the car ahead of me was turned away. I'm not sure that if just staying on property I would have been let in.

I was given a 3-hour parking slip with an ADR. Not sure how they would confirm the 3 hours, but that appears to be the standard issue time. Unfortunately, if dining and going to Jellyrolls, 3 hours is not enough.

You need to be staying at the actual Boardwalk Inn or the villas. Just staying on property is not enough. As it should be, because some of those other resorts are huge and there would be nowhere for BWI/BWV guests to park if anybody could just park there all day.
