First off, this thread is not about the wisdom of gift giving at Easter. Our family, like many others, use this as one of the few times a year we spoil our kids. Deal. Ok, got that off my chest :)

Now last night I went to Target for the purpose of basket filler, but the store is being remodeled and found the selection to be poor. So I went to Walmart this morning and I wanted to share my kids loot :)

DS9 and DS6 will have:
- Chocolate Bunny ($3.50)
- Peeps
- Brach's jelly beans to be scattered in basket grass
- hollow eggs filled with snickers, Krabby Patties or loose change to find.

- 2 Movies (DS6: Cars 2, Hop; DS9: Muppets, Puss in Boots - Blu Ray/DVD/Digital Copy)
- Books (DS6: Junie B. Dumb Bunny, Phineas & Ferb Easter Eggs-traveaganza; DS9 - Hunger Games (he said he wanted to read it....) and Diary of Wimpy Kid bookmarks)
- Spin brushes and toothpaste
- bubbles
- jump rope
- yoyo
- paddle ball
- chalk
- spinner (they spin when you blow on them).

And instead of more Itunes gift cards we are buying new bikes. 20" since they have outgrown their 16" bikes bought 2 years ago. They are both over 4 feet tall.

I am excited as with the movies & bikes the total will be under $300. Should be a fun Easter!

Is there a point to this thread? Do you want an award because you completed the task. :confused3 $300 Easter baskets are also not budget related.

Whoa, that's a bit snarky I think.....

OP I think you did good, especially with bikes! I'm doing baskets this year for under $50, all I need to get now are some gift cards to put in them. :) I have various candies, bunny, peeps, whoppers, and then a few gift cards and I'll be done. I think I'll do Cold Stone, Tutti Melon (froyo) and iTunes, those are always good. :)

Very cool!!

I'm almost done with our baskets as well, and look similar to yours (although mine don't include bikes, lol.. so much cheaper).

Got them:

1 movie each (dvd/blue-ray/digital copy).. Muppets for older dd, and Chipwrecked for younger dd... they've been begging for these... got them the more expensive one that includes the digital copy, since they both have Touches, and we'll be going on a 12-hour (1-way) car ride this summer.

New bicycle helmet for older dd...she says her old one is too tight.

A sleep sheep (soothing sounds) for younger dd... she has a hard time falling asleep at night.

Both of them are getting a sand bucket, shovel, and few other sand toys... we're going to the ocean this summer for the first time since older dd was 3 yrs old, :)

Pez dispensers with candy.

Chocolate bunny (have to have 1 of these, lol).

Still have to pick up some jelly beans to sprinkle in the basket.. but I don't give much candy at all.. prefer to buy gifts... total will cost about $50 each, i'm happy.

Sounds like a Happy Easter....

Just wanted to mention the Hunger Game book. Now we rarely have censored any books (though we strictly did TV) but my 19 year old is reading this book right now and says it is much more mature natured than the Harry Potter Books which I introduced early to both of the boys. You just might want to read a review to be sure you are ok with him reading it!

My boys are 6 & 9 also:) I still have not done their baskets but I'm getting them bathing suits, towesl.watershoes, waterguns and I did get their chocolate bunnies. My dh will need a basket because our boys really don't like candy so he won't have any to sneak out of theirs:rotfl:

I agree with this. I loved The Hunger Games, and so did DD12 and all of her friends (and most of the moms). Although DD9 could read it based on reading level, it is disturbing on many levels and would probably cause her to have nightmares. She was not bothered at all by Harry Potter.

Excellent book, OP, but if you haven't read it, you might read it before giving it to your DS. But you know him best. ;) The fifth grade gifted class is reading it in our school, but it is written more for middle school and up.

Bathing suits are a great idea.....but my girls are so picky. Maybe the EB will bring them a gift card to buy a new bathing suit...hmmmmmm :)

Sounds like a wonderful Easter basket.

I have older girls and still make baskets for both.

Love the spin tooth brush and toothpaste idea!!!

Everyone enjoy the holiday!

I finished both my kids Easter basket today and spent about $70 total for both kids.

I don't spoil mine with gifts at Easter. I just don't think it is a gift giving holiday. But I do spoil them with TONS of candy. Halloween and Easter and sometimes Valentine's Day are the only times of year we ever buy candy so it is a rare treat for them. SO I load them down with it. Their baskets are full of different kinds of candy.

My kids only get gifts at birthdays and Christmas.

Have you read the Hunger Games book? I have and I think 9 is too young for the book.

Maybe move this to the community board. Most people come to the budget board looking for deals.:thumbsup2

that's awesome!!! I'm done getting the stuff for everyone's baskets, but haven't actually put them together or stuffed eggs yet. I feel so behind this year but I have a few volunteer things going on (one being the town Easter egg hunt I helped coordinate) so I've been occupied. =)

OP here,, thanks for sharing in Easter joys.
I have concerns about the Hunger Games, too, as I have read all 3 books and saw the movie. But he has read the entire Harry Potter series and despite knowing the premise of the book, he wants to read it. However, Percy Jackson kind of freaked him out so I suspect he'll get a chapter in and put it on the shelf. If nothing else it should make for interesting dinner conversations.
Like reading about others baskets, keep them coming!

I read the Percy Jackson series. This is way worse. If PJ freaked him out this book should be put off until later.

Finished my Easter baskets. I really tried to scale back this year. For my DDs, I put in the following:

Easter candy assortment (jelly beans, Reese's cups, KitKats, Hershey's Kisses)
A Moxie Girl Mermaid (pink for my DD7, purple for DD2)
A package of Squinkies each
A book for each of them
A set of headphones for each of them for the plane ride to Disney in May

Spent around $40 each, which is a lot better than previous years. =)

I got a few things for dd13 basket. I might play a trick on her. She has a basket we fill each year and she uses it for the easter egg hunt at dh family side of the family. She's had this basket since she was lil. ANyways I'm thinking of filling it with the plastic grass and a small bag of spicey chips, her fav pringles and a snack size pack of kitkats.

Her main Easter gift will be a 2.99 cute zebra bag with pink trim. Its plastic and has a zipper perfect for a swim bag. I will fill it with stuff. I bought her 3 pj bottoms from WW $3 ea on clearance, set of black hanger, purple hangers, some crazy socks i bought at Ross4.99 for pk of $5. 1-2 more of her fav snacks and a $5-$10 itune card

my goddaughter will get a basket with an outfit, hairclips and some snack. $20 is the limit

We're doing a lot of camping trips this year, so I think I'm going to fill the basket with stuff they can use on them. Each will get a new bathing suit. I think I'm going to make them both crayon rolls too. (I guess I should really get working on that lol) Coloring books, bubbles, maybe a new pair of sandals. I dont' want to spend more than $30 on each one. I can probably do it for less with coupons.

I am struggling with easter baskets this year. Today is younger dd's 13th birthday and she wanted a bunny and money for her birthday. So I can't really go easter shopping until she gets out and spends her birthday money. Older dd is 17 and impossible to buy for.

So far I have gotten both girls scented pencils and pens (for school), a vinylmation, headbands and lots of candy. Thats it! I usually spend about $100 on each basket so I still have a bit too go. I do know that I am getting older dd hubcap covers for her car as she keeps losing them and is embarrased by the lack of covers. Too funny!
