Does your teen have a loft or bunk bed?

My guy has had a pillow topped queen for several years.

If my dd had her wish she'd get a memory foam topped queen and convert our family room into her bedroom suite, but none of that will ever be happening

My daughter who is almost 12, has the bunk bed, double on bottom, single on top. I love it, absolutely love it. We don't have extra bed rooms, so at times when my friends stayed over I just stuck her on top, and they took the bottom.

It is a great spacesaver!
This is what I wished my daughter had had when she was a teenage instead of a day bed. It would have be perfect for her and her friends.

The loft bed with the futon underneath is a great idea also.

got one for my DS when he was 15 .. space issues also made it seem like a good idea.

I would say for the most part he is happy with it... but right after we got it he came down with mono and it is not fun to have a sick kid way up there....
especially for middle of the night checks...

My dd 13 wants to re-do her room this spring because its "too little girl" for her now :sad1: She has a very small room and hang-out space is limited. I was thinking of getting her a loft bed with either an open space under it so she can put her dresser there to make more floor space, or her small desk and buy a bunch of floor cushions too stick under there.
Then I found a bunk bed with a futon on the bottom and thought that might work since its a place that she can sit when she has friends over. The problem is she is 13 and this is the last time I plan on buying furniture for her room so I want to make sure that in 1 year, or in 6 years, she'll still be okay with it.
Does anyone here have a teen that still sleeps on a loft or bunk bed? Are they okay with it, or do they absolutely hate it?

Right now she has a metal frame daybed that I had gotten a whole bunch of throw pillows to make it more like a couch to hang out on, but she hates it because its squeaky.

My daughter actually switched to a loft bed when she was a teenager. She and her dad actually built hers. One problem with bunkbeds can be that they aren't long enough for taller teens, so they built hers XL like many of the ones in college dorms are made (you can get XL sheets at JCP and many other places).

She put her desk below it as well as her TV, etc. On the other side off the room we put a futon which worked well when she had a friend stay over and served as a couch to watch televsion, study, whatever. Hers served her very well, and she kept it until she got married a couple of years ago (22). I will add that by that time she was glad to get out of it. ;)

I'm 19 and have had a loft bed since I was about 16. I still like it, especially since it saves so much space in my room. When I'm away at college, my bed is regular height, but my bed at home is the loft bed. I like having my bed low at school because I don't have much space, so I like using my bed to sit on to watch tv and do homework. At home, I have a full desk underneath my bed, so needing to use the bed as seating isn't needed. The bed is pretty tall (I'm 5'6" and can completely stand up underneath it), but the ceiling in my bedroom is 10'+ tall, so it isn't a problem.

I got mine from Ikea - it's a full/double:

(in case the link doesn't work, its the TROMSÖ Loft bed frame)

DS16 has a loft/bunk combo bed. The top is a loft bed supported on one side by a desk and the other by a bookshelf and dresser drawers. There is a bed that fits perpendicular to the top bed between the desk/dresser. He sleeps on the lower bed. He also has a very small room. It has been nice when he has had friends sleep over but he never hangs out in his room. We asked if he would like us to take out the lower bed and put a chair or something in there but he doesn't want to sleep on the upper bed (too much of a hassle getting in and out and making the bed).

What about a twin bed with a trundle? Day beds are a pain to make and sleep in I think. If she doesn't need extra bed space for friends, how about a twin bed with drawers under so you can get ride of the dresser in her room and give her more space for some bean bag chairs or something. Can you put closet organizers in her closet so she can get ride of the dresser even?

We have one of these and one set of bunk beds. Both have the "sit up in bed too fast and hit your head on the ceiling" inconvenience along with being challenging to change the bedding. In addition, once the kids became adult-sized, they said the top bunks were not comfortable because the mattress isn't the same thickness as the bottom mattress. I had no idea this was the case when we bought them.

We have high ceilings so the sit up and hit your head thing isn't an issue. Was also bought the mattresses separately from the actual bed so they are exactly the same mattress.

This is similar to what we have:

I had a "Different Strokes" type bunk bed growing up. It had the loft bed flat on both ends so you climbed up on the ends. Then it had the bottom bunk that slid in perpendicular on wheels. The great thing about this was they came apart in pieces that could be put in storage when needed. There were years when I had both in my room, years when I only had the loft part, and other years when I only had the bottom part. So I think it was the best option because without buying new furniture I was able to change up my room every 18-24 months. I miss that now as my bedroom set my husband and I bought 10+ years ago still works great and we like it but I would love to rearrange sometimes.

We bought my oldest son a loft bed when he was 5, he is now almost 18 and he still uses it. He has never complained about it and always liked it. We got my youngest son a cabin bed when he was 5 and he is now 15, he too, likes his bed. For them, both beds were a good choice, which has served us well over the years!

DS is now 20 but when he was a tween I bought a bunk with a full size bed on top and a full size futon on bottom. He really loved it and used it until recently. I believe we got it at rooms to go kids. The futon was great because it was a nice area to sit and if he had a friend over they could sleep on the futon since it also became a full size bed

I have narrowed it down to two beds. This is the one I want to get her, but dh doesn't like the price tag. I would try to find it cheaper, or try to find just the bed part and stick her existing dresser under it.

DD wants this one

Can the one with the futon be put against the wall without having to be moved out when you unfold the futon?

Recently i have bought a loft bed for my kids. He has seen it in his friend's home and insist me to take it. it s is very difficult for me to choose because i don't have any idea about its design and ideas. I have read many articles and blogs and finally buy Best Loft Beds For Kids.

The plans are drawn up for 14 y/o DGD's loft room. Just waiting for my mother's estate to be finished in the courts so I can buy the apartment and change it around the way I want it. It'll stay in place at least through her 1st four years of college.

She was given a choice of a QB and TB and went for the twin. She decided it gave her the least amt of space to clean and is spacious enough for her needs. The bed is raised on a pulley system instead of wooden posts for more floor space. This will be our last NYC residence so I want as little mess as possible when her room is dismantled later on.

We got DD a loft bed when she was 3. She slept in it until she was 28 and that was last year! Bought a new mattress for it about 4 years ago. She took it with her when she bought her own house last year although she bought herself a queen size bed. She also bought a twin bed frame and moved the mattress to that frame in her guest bedroom. The loft frame is now a house plant stand in her third bedroom in front of the window, but she plans on getting a cat and that will be the "cat's bedroom, and a place for the cat to perch and look out the window.

We bought my daughter a loft bed when she was about thirteen. She is turning 20 this month and lives at college. She loves that crazy bed but finally asked for a new bed frame. Her loft actually converts to a regular bed but she has her heart set on another particular bed. I’m actually going to put her bed and a book shelf on Facebook market place soon. I will say the bed has been a great quality bed through the years.

Zombie thread, but ds21 begged for a loft bed when he was 14. I finally caved, by the time he went to college he was 6’1” and 200 pounds and happy to be done with it. Ds17 moved into his room and after a month begged to get rid of it. Dd16 and dd18 had bunk beds for years, when dd18 took over dd23’s room, dd16 begged to get rid of them. Dd18 is in a tiny forced triple at college. Even though her desk blocks access to the area under her bed where she stores a lot of stuff (no room for dressers), she refuses to loft her bed.

LOL. Well DD was sleeping in a loft bed in 2011 so I'm just late to post!

We've had several loft beds over the years. With five kids we didn't always have a lot of room. It worked out well for my kids. Just check the height. We purchased all of ours from Ikea.
